Last year, Eoin Duffy's The Missing Scarf was one of the ten animated short films shortlisted for the Best Animated Short Film category at the 2014 Oscars. It didn't end up making the cut, but the award-winning short is now available online for you to watch in full and it's definitely an interesting ride. Narrated by George Takei, The Missing Scarf is a black comedy exploring some of life's common fears -- fear of the unknown, of failure, rejection and finally the fear of death -- all from the perspective of a squirrel that goes looking for his missing scarf, and delivered under the misleading tone of a child's storybook reading. Now, what I would suggest is first watching the short teaser trailer and then the full short as a way to properly set the mood, because there is no real way to expect what comes in the end. Narrated by George Takei, the Irish Film Board funded animated short The Missing Scarf has come online, and it is an absolute joy to behold. Coming from director Eoin Duffy, it was mainly created using the open source Blender 3D, in addition to Adobe Flash, and spins the darkly comic tale of a squirrel looking for his missing scarf, and the various animals, who are dealing with their own problems, he encounters. The Missing Scarf has gone on to win several awards both home and abroad, as well as being shortlisted for 2014 Academy Awards.  I highly recommend you take six minutes out of your day, and watch this wonderful piece of animation. ...

Top brass at the Provincetown International Film Festival (Piff) have announced the award winners of this year’s festival.

As previously announced, David Cronenberg was presented with the 2014 Filmmaker On The Edge Award and took part in a conversation with Piff resident artist John Waters at Town Hall.

Debra Winger was on hand to receive the Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award and took part in a conversation with film professor B Ruby Rich.

Patricia Clarkson was presented with the 2014 Excellence in Acting Award.

The festival ran from June 18-22 and the 2015 edition is set for June 17-21.

The Off animation block was full of great contenders of various animation styles. Snowdysseus played like a stop-motion, nightmare-fueled version of Gravity featuring an astronaut trapped in a land plagued with skeletons; the crowd-pleasing, mannequin-starring Baby Chicken sported a short adventure of a deadly breakfast; the French animated short The Little Blond Boy with a White Sheep favored the use of imagination and frolicking with farm animals to standardized tests; and even a computer-rendered children’s film narrated by George Takei, The Missing Scarf. Today the Academy announced the shortlist of ten animated short films that will be competing for nominations at the 2014 Oscars and I have gone ahead and found trailers/previews for seven of them, the complete short film for one of them and pictures for the two that didn't seem to have any video preview online as of yet. The Academy's Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Reviewing Committee viewed all 56 eligible entries for the preliminary round of voting at screenings held in New York and Los Angeles and now the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will select three to five nominees from among the 10 titles previewed below. The 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 5:30 a.m. Pt. Check out the titles contending for this year's race over the next couple of pages.

Steph Green’s Run & Jump has picked up the Best Irish Feature Award at the Galway Film Fleadh.

The film, produced by Samson Films, Bavaria Pictures and Senator Film München and directed by the Oscar-nominated Green, also picked up the Best First Irish Feature prize.

George Kane’s Discoverdale won the award for Best International Feature while Boy Eating The Bird’s Food, from Greece’s Ektoras Lygizos, won Best International First Feature.

Vico Nikci’s Coming Home won Best Irish Feature Documentary and was also named Best Human Rights Documentary in association with Amnesty International.

Plot For Peace from Carlos Agullo and Mandy Jacobson was named Best International Feature Documentary.

Galway’s Bingham Ray New Talent Award in association with Magnolia Pictures was given to Kelly Thornton for her performance in Lance Daly’sLife’s A Breeze, which received its world premiere at Galway.
