Terrified teenagers and Robert Englund go together like peas and carrots, so it’s reassuring to see that this clip from the upcoming Midnight Man promises some real old school horror thrills to come when it opens later this month. Not to mention that, fortunately for the teenagers, Englund isn’t the titular midnight man, but rather a Loomis-like veteran providing exposition on the spooky goings-on. He’ll also likely die horribly at the beginning of the third act.

As for the footage here, which is pulled from the opening scene, it depicts three friends “calling upon the Midnight Man. As long as they stay in the circle they’ll be safe,” but things don’t go according to plan. Right on the heels of his successful appearance at our Silver Scream Festival in Santa Rosa, Robert Englund has been cast opposite fan fave Lin Shaye (A Nightmare On Elm Street, Ouija, Insidious) in an indie horror flick called The Midnight Man, which is to be directed by Travis Z, who directed the recent Cabin Fever remake.

According to The Wrap, the film “is based on the old pagan ritual the Midnight Game, though it doubles as an American remake of Rob Kennedy’s low-budget 2013 feature of the same name that was made in Ireland.”

The story revolves around a girl and her friends who play the Midnight Game, which brings about the titular Midnight Man, who terrorizes them using their own fears against them.

Horror icons Robert Englund (“A Nightmare on Elm Street”) and Lin Shaye (“Insidious”) are set to star in the indie horror-thriller “The Midnight Man” from writer-director Travis Z, TheWrap has learned. The duo previously starred together in “2001 Maniacs” back in 2005. “Midnight Man” is a co-production between top Latin American distributor Gussi Films and Zeal Media, the production/finance company launched in February by Cassian Elwes and Armory Films partners Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros.
