The names of the main characters are all related to Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead, in some way. The title character is named Ashley, in honor of the series protagonist, Ash Williams. The characters of Bruce and Ellen are named in honor of The Evil Dead cast members Bruce Campbell and Ellen Sandweiss. The characters of Scotty and Shelly are also named for the supporting characters in The Evil Dead.
Director David J. Porras shot this film as his capstone thesis project for his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). As per the capstone requirements, the film was shot entirely in a single 12-hour day. The rough cut was completed in six days to meet the university film festival submission deadline.
