ABC’s 2025 midseason lineup includes the return of Will Trent and The Rookie as well as the debuts of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Shifting Gears. ABC today announced its 2025 midseason premiere dates, featuring a slate of laugh-out-loud comedies, high-octane dramas, and fan-favorite unscripted series. The network delivered a fall schedule full of ratings hits, including this season’s High Potential, which was ABC’s most-watched series premiere in nearly four years.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition makes its long-awaited return to ABC with all the feels beginning Thursday, Jan. 2. The new iteration, hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin±—co-founders of the global lifestyle brand The Home Edit, will be followed by the exclusive broadcast premiere of season two of the Emmy Award-nominated Hulu Original comedy Only Murders in the Building.

Will Trent premieres Tuesday, Jan. 7, followed by the midseason return of High Potential and a new season of The Rookie.

ABC locked in its midseason schedule, including the Winter premieres of freshman comedy series “Shifting Gears” and the reboot of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and the returns of shows like “The Rookie,” “Will Trent,” “Abbott Elementary” and “The Bachelor.”

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will return Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt, with the new iteration hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin and produced by “Hello Sunshine.” It will be followed by the exclusive broadcast premiere of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” Season 2. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” will return Jan. 5 at 7 p.m., followed by “The Wonderful World of Disney” at 8 p.m..

“Will Trent” Season 3 returns Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt, followed by the midseason return of “High Potential” at 9 p.m. and the Season 7 premiere of “The Rookie” at 10 p.m.

On Jan. 8, Tim Allen and Kat Dennings’ “Shifting Gears” will premiere at 8 p.m.

The lines between Hulu and ABC (already programmed jointly under head Craig Erwich) continue to blur, as the Alphabet web unveiled a midseason schedule heavy on repurposed hits from the streamer. That includes the addition of Hulu’s “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” which will air on Mondays at 10 p.m. starting Jan. 27 following “The Bachelor.”

Also getting a broadcast run on ABC, starting Jan. 30: Hulu docuseries “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini,” which will air Thursdays at 10 p.m., leading out of ABC’s long-delayed true crime series “Scamanda.” Additionally, ABC will bring back Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” for another broadcast run (after running Season 1 in January 2024) — this time, Season 2 of the comedy will run Thursdays at 9 p.m. via two-hour blocks for the first four weeks of January 2025 (starting Jan. 2).

ABC has revealed its midseason game plan, and it includes long-awaited return dates for The Rookie and Will Trent, as well as a premiere date for the Tim Allen/Kat Dennings sitcom Shifting Gears.

You’ll also see that the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition “reboot” and Only Murders in the Building Season 2 episodes will occupy Thursdays for a short stretch, with 9-1-1, Doctor Odyssey and Grey’s Anatomy all on hiatus until March 6 (following their Nov. 21 fall finales).

Grant Ellis’ journey for love on Season 29 of The Bachelor will unfold beginning in January, ABC revealed Thursday, along with the rest of its midseason lineup.

The latest season of The Bachelor kicks off on January 27 with a two-hour premiere at 8 p.m., as one of ABC’s several reality TV debuts in the new year.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is making its anticipated return to the network on January 2, with a new iteration of the series hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin.

New episodes of Celebrity Jeopardy! and What Would You Do? begin on January 8. And following The Bachelor, Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will be getting the broadcast treatment in the 10 p.m. hour.

The midseason return of High Potential, which marked ABC’s most-watched series premiere in nearly four years, is set for Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 9 p.m. It follows the Season 3 premiere of Will Trent at 8 p.m. with the Season 7 premiere of The Rookie capping off the night at 10 p.m.

Allen and Dennings’ new comedy series Shifting Gears premieres Wednesday, Jan. 8, followed by the return of Abbott Elementary in a new timeslot at 8:30 p.m. with its highly anticipated It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode.

Hulu has picked up the documentary “Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara,” which will launch Oct. 18 on the streamer. Produced by Story Syndicate and Erin Lee Carr’s Carr Lot Prods., the film focus on a long-running catfishing scheme that has impacted fans of Canadian indie rock band Tegan and Sara.

The doc follows what happened when Tegan Quin (who performs with sister Sara Quin) was hacked in 2011 and her personal files exposed. From there, her identity was stolen and used in a complex catfish scheme to defraud the band’s fans and the community that had developed around Tegan and Sara.

“Tegan and Sara ascended to global fame as one of the most influential queer indie rock bands of their generation,” the documentary’s synopsis noted. “They worked hard to cultivate an inclusive and passionate fanbase around the world. HBO’s House of the Dragon hit its highest mark to date in Nielsen’s streaming ratings for June 17-23.

The series racked up 1.23 billion minutes of viewing on Max for the week after its season two premiere (and including a few hours of viewing for the second episode on June 23). HotD‘s previous best showing was 1.02 billion minutes midway through its first season. Streaming figures for the show don’t include linear viewing on HBO.

The 1.23 billion minutes for House of the Dragon placed it fourth overall for the week, behind repeat leader Bridgerton (2.47 billion minutes), Your Honor (1.95 billion) and Prime Video’s The Boys (1.29 billion).
