I was lucky enough to see 'How to Be Happy' at the Galway Film Fleadh. A well written brilliantly acted story following marriage counsellor Cormac (Brian Gleeson) and his cousin Al (Stephen Mullan) as they navigate the ups and downs of relationships, while getting involved with some fairly nefarious characters.
Flor (Gemma-Leah Devereux) plays the private investigator hired to spy on Cormac who might be providing more then just a bit of marital advice. Brian Gleeson is superb as the hurting Cormac who has recently been dumped by his ex. Stephen Mullan more then matches Brian, his little quirks and mannerisms never failing to bring a laugh from the audience.
The beautiful Gemma-Leah Devereux captivates as Flor, who's investigative abilities are hampered by her emerging feelings towards Cormac. Throw in some hilarious scenarios and a scene stealing performance by the villainous Brian Fortune as Larry 'The Mangler' and the stage is set for what can only be described as a thoroughly enjoyable comedy. Head boards will never be the same again once Cormac is finished with them.
