- TriviaThe final scenes were filmed in the Paris Catacombs, which is a massive underground ossuary built beneath Paris that holds the remains of more than six million people, many of them plague victims. The catacombs were built using old mine tunnels beneath the city, construction on them began in 1774 because of the city's overflowing cemeteries. France experienced several major plagues between the 14th & 18th centuries killing an estimated 1.2 million (some estimates are as high as 2 million) people, this on top of the normal deaths had completely filled up Paris' cemeteries by the mid 18th century. As there were thousands of miles of mine shafts located beneath the city and surrounding area, most no longer being used, it was decided to move the remains of the city's cemeteries down into the tunnels. The catacombs continued to be renovated and expanded over the centuries, they were first opened to public visitation in 1874, and were even used by the French resistance to both hide from and conduct sneak attacks against the Nazi's occupying Paris during World War II. As of 2024 the catacomb tunnels are estimated to be around 200 miles long and tours of the catacombs are still offered; though these are guided tours as many of the tunnels are off limits for safety reasons and to prevent people from getting lost in the catacomb's labyrinth-like tunnels. Despite the many rumors of the catacombs being dangerous (some of the closed tunnels are indeed hazardous) and one of the most haunted places on Earth there has actually only been one confirmed death in the catacombs, and that was clear back in 1793 before they were even open to the public, a member of a work detail became lost after his torch went out and died from dehydration and exposure.

The penultimate episode of the season is, without a doubt, my favorite scene so far. This may be due, in part, to the inclusion of the car scene and its variants in action, where the tension and suspense are very well achieved. This suspense is enhanced by the excellent performances of the actors, who perfectly convey what their characters feel. It's a scene that captures the essence of *The Walking Dead* in a very dignified way. However, I feel that this season has been unfairly attacked, and this is reflected in the terrible rating this episode has received. I've been in this universe for more than 13 years, and this chapter definitely does not deserve a 7.9. I think this low rating is because some people base their opinion on whether or not their favorite character survives, instead of valuing elements like good choreography, excellent cinematography, and a decent narrative. And by saying "decent," I don't mean to imply that it isn't good; In fact, although this season has had setbacks, it has remained entertaining and of quality. I hope the rating goes up (although I doubt it), since this chapter does not deserve such a low rating. It may not be a work of art, but it is a very good chapter.
