Tanja Meissner is no stranger to Berlin. For more than two decades, the European film industry veteran has been a familiar face at Berlin’s European Film Market (EFM) from her time as a sales and acquisitions exec at French outfits Memento Films International and Celluloid Dreams.
But at this EFM Meissner is in the driving seat, heading up the market as the new director of Berlinale Pro, a newly-created position that gives her oversight duties for all of Berlin’s industry sections.
Over the course of the market, which runs Feb. 13-19 alongside the Berlin International Film Festival, she’ll play host to some 12,000 film professionals from more than 140 countries, with more than 600 exhibitors setting up their stalls to shop cinema.
It’s no secret the indie film industry is in crisis. With box office levels still well below pre-covid heights and inflation costs pushing budgets up, just as...

Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate’s EVP and head of Global Products and Experiences, shared insights Tuesday on how the studio courts and markets to Gen Z audiences: “You find them on gaming platforms,” she said.
“We’re playing video games, and I would not think of gaming as just video games,” Brown added while speaking at TheWrap’s 2024 Power Women Summit. “You really have to think about it as a social platform, because that is where Gen Z — and by the way, even to a further extent, Gen Alpha — is spending their time. And it’s not just to play the game that’s part of the experience, but it’s really about community building. It’s a place that they engage with friends.”

Allison Williams and Ebon Moss-Bachrach had one of television’s most startling scenes during the original run of Girls. In it, Moss-Bachrach chomped on her hindquarters with a gusto usually reserved for an Italian beef sandwich in his current show, The Bear.
Not everyone was on board with the scene or the show when it first aired. But now, the series has been rediscovered by Gen Z viewers, and they’re more attuned to Williams’s character, Marnie Michaels, and the show’s vibe than previous generations.
The actress reflected on that along with her costar in a recent Vanity Fair video.
“My theory is what was coded as selfishness among Millennials is now coded as self-care and just being aware of what you need, and advocating for your needs and standing up for yourself,” Williams said in the video. “And so Gen Z is like, ‘No, we get her.

The “Jeopardy!” brand is expanding again.
Prime Video announced earlier this week that it has ordered “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” from Sony Pictures Television. This marks the first time a “Jeopardy!” series will be created exclusively for a major streaming service. ABC, which has been the primary home for the brand, airs “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and “Jeopardy! Masters” in primetime, while its affiliates make up the bulk of where viewers tune in for the main syndicated series.
Putting a twist on the classic quiz show’s “answer-and-question” format that combines the academic rigor of “Jeopardy!” with the excitement and unpredictability of pop culture, “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” will see contestants playing in teams of three, using their expertise in categories from Alternative Rock to The Avengers; Broadway to Mma; Gen Z to Zendaya as they compete in a tournament-style event for the grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.

Elden Ring, the highly popular action RPG developed by FromSoftware, has garnered widespread acclaim since its release. With the upcoming release of its Dlc, Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s no exaggeration to say that most of the gaming community has its eyes on it.
Amid this exciting atmosphere, an interesting discussion about the player base’s age demographics has suddenly popped up. This started from a short, but simple Reddit post when a 38-year-old shared their 15-year-old nephew’s assertion that the latest FromSoftware title was only for “olds.”
Are You Too Old for Elden Ring?
Sorry Elden Ring fans, a 15-year-old has declared you’re too young to enjoy this boomer game
All it took was one post of an adult sharing his nephew’s comment about the Elden Ring player base’s age demographic for the community to unleash the beast within them.

Don’t get me wrong. I was one of the few people who was genuinely looking forward to seeing Madame Web after the first trailer dropped in November. It’s still so rare to get superhero movies that have a majority female cast, that I was ready to fight for this movie against all odds. After watching Dakota Johnson’s incredible takes during the Madame Web press tour, however, it seems like this may be a movie that not even the cast is very interested in fighting for.
Johnson’s carefree attitude on the Madame Web press tour isn’t a surprise given her iconic performance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, where the host jokingly asked why she wasn’t invited to Johnson’s birthday party, a big mistake on Ellen’s part. “Actually, no – that’s not the truth, Ellen” has become a meme in its own right, and...

"Summer Job" on Netflix follows entitled Gen Z Italians competing for €100,000 by doing the one thing they dread the most: working for someone else. Some stars rise to the occasion, while others stick to their spoiled ways, leading to penalties and eliminations. San Francisco, July 12 (Ians) Google has dropped plans to launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile chatbot application specifically designed for Gen Z users, featuring interactive digital characters.
The company was working on ‘Bubble Characters’ app, however it recently “deprioritised” those plans amid an internal reorganisation, according to materials seen by CNBC.
When a product gets deprioritised at Google, the development work on it ceases.
According to internal documentation, the Bubble Characters app featured “a choice of a talking digital character that would interact in conversations with Gen Z users,” the report said.
The tech giant had been working on this app since quarter four (Q4) of 2021.
The app’s description mentioned that it featured “human-like” conversations that “take action” and are “interesting for GenZ.”
Large language models—massive data sets used to understand and produce human-like text—powered the conversations.
“What started out as something from a science fiction novel,...
