"Vijay 69," directed by Akshay Roy, is a slice-of-life film featuring Anupam Kher as Vijay Mathew, a former athlete and swimming coach who sacrificed his career for his terminally ill wife. Now older, Vijay feels unfulfilled and decides to participate in a triathlon despite limited support from his daughter and society. The movie highlights his strong friendship with Fali (played by Chunkey Pandey) and his unexpected bond with a young rival athlete, Aditya (Mihir Ahuja), showcasing friendship's power beyond age.
While the film stumbles in its early scenes with TV-like production and forced humor, it becomes compelling as Vijay begins his journey. Kher's performance, especially in the triathlon scenes, is a standout, capturing Vijay's determination and resilience. Pandey adds humor, while Sahil Bhardwaj's cinematography brings intensity to the triathlon. Despite some overdramatized moments, the film leaves a positive impression with its message about second chances and seizing the day.

In Vijay 69, Anupam Kher plays a retired elderly widower who begins to feel like a bit small, ashamed and unaccomplished when he looks at himself through the perceived eyes of society with no significant achievements to boast about or legacy to be remembered for. Some initial confusion results in his family and friends thinking that Anupam's character has taken his own life and even though his friends and family admire him for dedicating his life to teaching swimming to children, when new community members question what his real job was, he starts to question his life choices. He decides to make a difference.
After a brief search for feats that he can strive to achieve, he decides to become India's oldest Triathlete and compete in a state triathlon event. The movie follows Kher's Vijay as he tries to raise money, spirit and strength to compete in the event. He faces stiff resistance from his daughter, the sports organization and a competitive neighbor whose son is trying to become India's youngest triathlete. There are some amusing and entertaining moments that happen as Vijay tries to make a difference and create his legacy. Will he be able to jump over various hurdles and cross the finish line or at 69 or will his family, friends, doctors, society and fitness stop him from even running for his legacy.
Anupam Kher is very believable and does a good job through most of the movie but there are moments in the movie especially during the climax when the emotional needle of his performance moves from dramatic to overly melodramatic. I think this is more about the director's style and (in)experience than Kher's acting. Just like the signature, Vijay 69 looses steam right before the final act which is very unfortunate since it has all the right components to deliver a knockout punch. This is yet again another movie where Kher's performance is pulled down by inconsistent direction and mediocre acting by his supporting cast. Mihir Ahuja is pretty good as India's youngest triathlete but Chunky Pandey is OK and does get a bit over the top and cringeworthy in some scenes. The other actors dont get much screen time and hence cant make any impact.
This is a movie worth watching for the simple, relatable and emotional story, Kher's acting for most of the movie and some light humor and fun. A good and simple movie....could have been better. 7/10 for the movie and Kher's performance.

The movie depicts a very simple story of Vijay, who's age is 69 and who gets very upset looking at his eulogy written by his friend. He wants to write something special which tells his entire life and what achievements he made. Fun loving, simple family drama but giving a very precious message. Age doesn't matter, every human in this world deserves his/her identity which is like a base of life. Everyone doesn't get a chance to achieve whatever they want in their young age but as it is said there is no time for any good thing to happen. Hence nobody should loose hope and keep trying until last.

Vijay 69 is a heartwarming and humorous sports drama that challenges the stereotypes associated with aging, proving that dreams truly don't have an expiry date.
The film follows Vijay Mathew (Anupam Kher), a 69-year-old former athlete who, driven by a promise to his late wife, decides to tackle a seemingly impossible goal: completing a triathlon at his age. In his journey, Vijay must confront his own physical and mental limitations, but he's not alone. With the unwavering support of his eccentric yet loyal friends, Vijay embarks on a life-affirming adventure that's as humorous as it is moving.
Anupam Kher delivers a standout performance as Vijay. At 69 himself, Kher brings rare authenticity to the role, playing a character who is equal parts stubborn, vulnerable, and inspiring. His portrayal captures the struggles of a man haunted by his past choices, driven by a need to accomplish something meaningful before it's too late. Kher's range is on full display, as he transitions from Vijay's unwavering determination to his poignant reflections on aging, making the journey emotionally impactful and relatable.
Chunky Pandey delivers a surprising and delightful comeback as Fali, Vijay's lifelong friend and biggest supporter. In a role filled with humor, warmth, and loyalty, Pandey's portrayal brings out the best in Vijay, reminding him (and us) of the importance of true friendship. Fali is more than just comic relief; he's the one who believes in Vijay's dream when no one else does, even helping him find the right coach and resources for his ambitious endeavor. Pandey's chemistry with Kher feels genuine and earned, making Fali a memorable and lovable character who reminds us of the friends who stick by us no matter what.
Sulagna Panigrahi delivers a compelling and nuanced performance as Vijay's daughter. Her portrayal of a daughter torn between supporting her father's dreams and wanting to protect him adds an important emotional layer to the film, making the family dynamics deeply relatable.
Saanand Verma's electrifying screen presence as the journalist trying to bring Vijay down adds a thrilling layer of tension to the story. His sharp, driven energy keeps the audience on edge, expertly portraying a character who challenges Vijay while also exploring his own motivations. Verma's performance is one that commands attention, showcasing his versatility and acting prowess.
Vrajesh Hirjee brings his unique comedic style to the role, providing much-needed levity in the film. His impeccable timing and natural humor make him a standout in lighter moments, balancing the more dramatic beats of Vijay's journey.
Mihir Ahuja shines in a heartfelt performance, bringing sincerity and charm to his role. His portrayal of a key character who helps further Vijay's journey with understanding and determination adds emotional depth to the story.
While Vijay 69 may follow a familiar underdog story arc, the performances elevate the film, making it both inspiring and entertaining. Director Akshay Roy strikes a nice balance between the comedic and dramatic elements, crafting a film that speaks to viewers of all ages.
Watching Vijay's journey to self-rediscovery and physical accomplishment serves as a reminder that it's never too late to pursue your dreams, or to redefine what "success" means in life.

Terrible over-acting.. Especially Chunky.. was and will always be one of the worst.. Kher same old antics, contorted faces, yelling.. Of course, it's "tailored" to the Bharatiya audience, so can't blame someone trying to make a quick buck.. and allowing Chunky to get some desperate earning.. The core message is great, but why this utter waste of time if all the people involved in this venture?? Ahh.. comes back to the audience. Oh well, they got what they want (deserve). Sadly, nowadays 90% stuff from Bollywood is this same rubbish. My review could be done in 5-6:words, but I've to reach the target (pun intended).
This is a beautiful movie of determination, grit, friendships, with great actor like Anupam Kher delivering an unforgettable performance. The story is absolutely wonderful of an old man who had potential in his youth to do something but family pressures forced him out to chase his dreams. But at the age of 69 he decides to do something that will forever etch a memory of his in the hearts of his loved ones. The screenplay is perfect and story has a good mix of drama, fun and emotions. The story will make you think that everyone in their lives should do something that is memorable and not give up just due to reasons of age. The movie will bring tears of joy in the climax to almost everybody. Thank you team for such a wonderful experience.

Good concept, but that's not enough to make a good movie.
Anupam Kher and Chunky Panday's overacting was worst at its best.
Direction was as poor as the acting, movie going all over the place.
Writer/director tried to include all the masala and unnecessary comedy to make the movie work, in fact trying too hard.
Am fan of Anupam Kher's acting because his work in the past especially early days. Now his acting gone downhill and especially his sense of humor.
Except for Anupam Kher's hair, everything is boring in the movie.
There are better movies to watch in the same concept and motivation especially for seniors.

A decent feel good movie with a few moments to smile. Anupamkher's acting is good and the combo with chunkey pandey makes you realise you need that one good friend who is always there for you. The story was good and there are no over the top drama and sequences. There is a deeper meaning the movie tries to convey about life which ever human being knows and does not do anything about it. There are no songs in the movie which helps with the momentum of the movie and makes it more close to a real life movie.
Overall definitely a one time watch movie with family except for a few words here and there.

I couldn't sit through more than 15 minutes of the film - such a torture. Some so-called film critic got paid Rs 1 lakh and wrote a glowing tribute in favour of the movie claiming that Chunky Pandey nailed it. Sorry, Chunky was never a great actor. His make-up, wig and deliberate Parsi accent is irritating. Kher has acted in so many movies before and unfortunately he hams too much. Unbearable. Now I know that you cannot trust reviews by film critics. I hope viewers eschew reviews by so-called film critics. Believe in other users. It is good to see Guddi Maruti back on screen. I do hope that she gets good roles in OTT.

Vijay 69 is a very touching movie..amazing acting by the entire cast esp. Anupam Kher and Chunky Pandey..it has a lot of fun moments esp the cussing by the members with each other in a light hearted manner...good storyline and screenplay..keeps you invested in the movie till the end...very good message about enjoying life n about age being just a number...very relevant in today's times where kids give up/ignore their parents in old age n don't feel emotionally connected to them at all. Hope it inspires us to take effort to collect with our parents in their old age and make them feel relevant and important.
It's a nice movie to watch with family and we can learn more about life that how move forward with positive things to achieve anything to break the obstacles.
We should apply the positive thoughts for all situations to overcome the problems which all are happening in our life. Because life means passing the problems not struggling with it. And we have to learn new solutions from each and every struggles and keep passing through it.
I observed the problems that Hero faced in the movie and also noted how he overcome from all with the help of supporting characters. Yes always the supporting characters providing the help to make good basement to achieve the target.

It's been a while since I watched a movie featuring a senior actor in the lead role. When Anupam Kher is headlining, it's bound to be worth watching, as he often chooses great projects.
The story centers around 69-year-old Vijay, who feels he hasn't accomplished enough in life. Determined to leave a legacy, he fights tooth and nail to participate in a triathlon. This journey of self-discovery and resilience is the heart of the story.
An inspiring tale for audiences of all ages, the movie sends a powerful message: it's never too late to chase your dreams. If you're passionate, you should pursue your goals, regardless of age. With a strong emphasis on family and friendship dynamics, the narrative stirs your emotions. While the climax is somewhat predictable, the emotional depth and relatability keep you engaged. This isn't a tearful or preachy drama; instead, it's an entertaining and uplifting film.
Anupam Kher is the heart and soul of this movie. Once again, he proves he can surpass any leading actor with his talent. He embodies the character completely, making you feel every emotion. Chunky Pandey, as his friend, is a breath of fresh air, surprising with his acting talent and breaking free from typecasting. Mihir also brings freshness to the film, playing his part well. The supporting cast adds solid performances that enhance the story.
There are a few cinematic liberties, particularly during the triathlon scenes, banter with media, but they're forgivable, as they add dramatic effect. Some moments may even bring a tear to your eye.
If you're looking for something positive and heartfelt, this film is worth adding to your list. You'll likely find yourself relating to the narrative, making it a worthwhile watch.

Beautiful blend of humour and emotions. Even though there is explicit language, it's a family film. My entire family saw it and enjoyed it. Should be on everyone's watch list.
The choice of song was lovely too.
It's also good to see a few forgotten actors such as Chunky Pandey and Guddi Maruti. Anupam and Mihir were the best in the film and their friendship was unique and beautifully captured.
The film has no mega stars but definitely deserves to be watched. Good to see such movies instead of the usual masala movies that bollywood makes.
Overall, very good and entertaining. We enjoyed our Sunday watch!

Directed by Akshay Roy, *Vijay 69* is a moving drama that tells the story of Vijay Mathew (Anupam Kher), a 69-year-old man who, dissatisfied with a life he feels lacks meaningful achievements, embarks on an ambitious quest to become the oldest man to complete a triathlon. Co-starring Chunky Pandey and Mihir Ahuja, this film blends humor, emotion, and inspiration, creating a story perfect for a family watch, especially with senior members.
The film garnered considerable attention due to its title, which caused confusion among audiences associating it with *Thalapathy 69*, the much-anticipated film starring Vijay Joseph. However, *Vijay 69* is entirely unrelated and focuses instead on its heartwarming premise and the journey of an elderly man embracing a challenge against all odds.
Anupam Kher delivers a stellar performance, bringing Vijay Mathew's struggles, determination, and vulnerability to life. His nuanced portrayal resonates deeply, embodying the spirit of resilience that serves as the backbone of the narrative. Yet, it is Chunky Pandey who surprises the audience, stealing the show with his impeccable comic timing and warmth as the loyal, supportive friend. He provides the perfect balance of levity and emotional grounding, leaving a lasting impression. Mihir Ahuja adds youthful energy to the ensemble, rounding out the cast effectively.
While the storyline is predictable in parts, the sincerity with which it is executed elevates the film. The training montages, intergenerational dynamics, and Vijay's personal growth are all beautifully presented. The screenplay may lack a few layers in its exploration of the protagonist's past regrets, but it succeeds in highlighting the importance of living life with purpose and embracing new challenges at any age.
*Vijay 69* is more than a movie about triumph over physical challenges; it is a story of emotional rediscovery and living with intent. Heartfelt, humorous, and inspiring, it's a must-watch for anyone seeking a feel-good story that reminds us it's never too late to chase a dream.

The film tells about a man who wants to live life for himself.
Remembering his wife who told him to live his dreams, he starts prepping up for a triathlon.
Hurdles came but he was determined and that's what made a difference.
A story of inspiration and being young to do anything even if you are 69 years old.
Sometimes you need to just believe that you can do and that's what really matters.
This one will make you cry, give some insights into society's biases which are still prevalent these days since old times. The film breaks the orthodox belief that when you are old then you should just stay home.
Must watch this one.

I'm genuinely surprised by the low ratings for this movie. For me, it's an engaging family film that takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions-moments of laughter, joy, and even sadness. Sure, Chunky Pandey's exaggerated Parsi accent might feel a bit overdone at times, but overall, the film has a warm and heartfelt touch. It leaves you with that comforting, feel-good sensation that only certain movies manage to evoke. It reminds us to live in the moment and appreciate the present. As the beautiful song says, "Aage bhee jaane naa tu, peechhe bhee jaane naa tu, jo bhee hai, bas yahi ek pal hai."

Anupam Kher's Vijay 69 crosses all the odds. From the direction to music to performances, Vijay 69 marks perfection everywhere. Speaking about performances Vijay 69 had best supporting cast in recent times. Starting from Guddi Maruti to Vrajesh Hirjee to Sulagna Panigrahi to Chunky Pandey. All have done fabulous job. Speaking about the protagonist Vijay, Anupam kher has done wonderful job. The way he has used all body parts to denote 9Rasa of his character is something to learn. Vijay's character was from top to bottom in every emotion and the way Anupam Kher has played it makes him legendary. The music was everywhere supporting the scenes and 'Aage bhi jane na tu' song made all the choreography beautiful to watch. There were small editing glitches and sometimes Chunky's character felt over dramatic but it got overshadowed by the screenplay and performances. Overall good representation of cinema.

The film's central message is deeply resonant: we are never too old to dream, to set goals, and to challenge the boundaries that life and society place upon us. Vijay's story is a powerful reminder that our relevance, dignity, and value are not defined by our physical capacities alone but by our spirit, our will to persevere, and our commitment to our own personal journeys. He serves as a beacon of hope for anyone who has ever felt limited by age, illness, or doubt. It challenges us to reconsider our own beliefs about aging, showing us that the true triumph lies in keeping our spirit unbroken. The film leaves viewers with a lasting message: that every day is a new opportunity to push boundaries, to chase dreams, and to live fully, regardless of where we are in life's journey.
Let me start with the negatives first - I can understand the negative reviews. There are indeed a few cringe moments in this otherwise fantastic movie, such Chunky Pandey's annoying Parsi accent and a few flat jokes. However, compared to most Indian movies, this is a refreshing take on ageism and ambition, resilience, and the life of an ordinary man with extraordinary dreams. The film dives deep into the life of Vijay-a 69-year-old retired man who defies societal expectations, family objections, and physical challenges to participate in a marathon. But Vijay 69 isn't just about running a race; it's about confronting the race against time, societal norms, and self-doubt.
The plot, woven with humor and heart, is refreshingly unconventional, presenting aging not as a period of slowing down but as an opportunity to reignite passion. The narrative is both comedic and heartfelt, and while some parts may feel familiar, the film's sincerity keeps it grounded. Moments with Vijay and his family and especially his young rival lend a lot of warmth and relatability, portraying the bittersweet challenges and joys of an older man attempting a seemingly impossible feat.
Performance-wise, the lead actor (name), brings an understated charm to Vijay. His portrayal is nuanced, capturing the physical and emotional nuances of his character's journey. The supporting cast does a commendable job as well, adding depth and energy to the film's central themes. The cinematography captures the spirit of the marathon and city life, creating scenes that feel vibrant and alive.
In summary, Vijay 69 isn't just a sports film; it's a tribute to resilience, showing that dreams don't have an expiration date. It's an inspiring watch for all ages, reminding us that it's never too late to chase what we love.
