Filmed in December 2021 near the end of its run in London's West End after opening in 2020 and facing multiple performance suspensions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The only song from the animated film not to be in this musical is "Playing with the Big Boys" which was originally sung by Steve Martin and Martin Short as the two high priests, characters who were combined into a single priest for the stage version.
The Burning Bush (God) is portrayed by a large ensemble all speaking at once. This was the original intent for the animated film but, ultimately, God's dialogue was performed primarily by Val Kilmer, who also voiced Moses (though other voices can be heard along with Kilmer's, his voice is just the loudest and clearest).
During the plagues scenes, when Moses meets the Queen Mother, the capes forming the backdrop are tattered and torn, unlike in Deliver Us where they're whole and bright. This symbolises the destruction the plagues are having on Egypt and the Nile delta.
