Zoey Deutch didn’t have to audition for her new movie Juror #2!
The 30-year-old actress opened up about the film during a weekend morning appearance on Good Morning America on Saturday (December 7) in New York City.
Zoey was on the show to promote both the movie and her current Broadway production of Our Town. While Juror #2 has been in theaters for over a month, it’s continuing to gain recognition after being named one of the Top 10 Movies of the Year by the National Board of Review. The film will begin streaming on Max on December 20.
While on GMA, Zoey revealed she got her role without auditioning!

The Verdict Is in — ‘Juror # 2’ Is #1 on VOD While ‘Red One’ and ‘Conclave’ Get Warp Speed Streaming
For a week without any new hit movie PVOD releases or a particularly interesting Netflix lineup, some interesting news tops our report this week.
Clint Eastwood’s “Juror # 2” debuts at #1 on PVOD. As noted initially last week, it immediately topped iTunes’ VOD last week and has maintained that position, and is also tops for the full week at Fandango.
That’s a key sign of how public awareness of VOD has grown and how, for many, it’s a main source of recent movies that are otherwise minimally available to audiences in theaters. In the case of “Juror # 2,” this was because of WB’s decision to keep its release limited (with very little marketing and most awareness created by social media outrage over its handling). But the primacy of VOD as a major source of revenue, and as a priority in terms of release, has been...

You’d be forgiven if you didn’t know Clint Eastwood has a film in the running for awards this year called “Juror #2,” since Warner Bros. released it to less than 50 theaters in the U.S. Some may think this is an injustice, that Eastwood’s latest masterpiece — which will stream on Max later this month — has been suppressed as Hollywood prepares to put him out to pasture. Maybe that’s true.

Universal Pictures’ blockbuster musical “Wicked” has been named best picture by the National Board of Review, the organization announced on Wednesday, in addition to taking home the directing prize for Jon M. Chu and a special award for the collaboration of stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
Over the last 40 years, most of the winners of NBR’s best film has gone on to receive an Oscar nomination for best picture, with the exception of films like 1998’s “Gods and Monsters,” 2000’s “Quills” and 2014’s “A Most Violent Year.” In the 1980s, there were technically two misses with 1987’s “Empire of the Sun” and 1983’s “Betrayal,” the latter of which won in a tie with “Terms of Endearment.” So far this decade, Spike Lee’s war drama “Da 5 Bloods” (2020) is the only film to fail to achieve Oscar recognition. The 44th film, “Juror #2” (2024) from director Clint Eastwood is a morality tale covered in the garb of a legal drama, exhibiting many of Eastwood’s classicism without any of the staid tendencies that could be expected from a nonagenarian director. This is a much-needed callback to adult mid-budget dramas that Eastwood’s entire filmography boasts of.

There is something satisfyingly old-school about Clint Eastwood’s 2024 film, Juror No. 2, which the actor-turned-director has gifted to the world at the rosy young age of just 94. A legal thriller drama, the film’s plot is centered around Justin Kemp, a writer who is called up for jury duty and finds himself in a terrible predicament when he has to decide whether to accuse the supposedly wrong person or indefinitely delay the justice demanded by the victim’s family. While none of the twists and revelations in Juror No. 2 (although there are not many of them) were particularly unpredictable, the manner in which the case unfolds before us makes the film a thoroughly enjoyable watch.
Spoiler Alert
What is the film about?
Juror No. 2 begins in a warm, homely setting, as Justin Kemp guides his heavily pregnant girlfriend, Allison, to the room that he has just redecorated to be the nursery.

Thanksgiving has long been a deadline of sorts for studios campaigning for Oscar nominations, because it offers the tempting proposition of a holiday weekend in which voters might have free time to catch up on movies. In past years, that meant a steady stream of screener DVDs arriving in voters’ mailboxes in the days before Thanksgiving – but now, with the Academy focusing on its members-only screening platform and placing restrictions on physical screeners, the push is to get new films into the Academy Screening Room before the holiday.
Fifteen new films were added to that room on Wednesday, a departure from the usual weekly additions, which typically come every Friday. The newcomers include Best Picture contenders “Conclave” and “The Piano Lesson,” following a Nov. 22 influx that included “Emilia Perez,” “Joker: Folie a Deux,” “Juror No. 2,” “Nightbitch,” “A Real Pain,” “The Room Next Door,” “Saturday Night” and “September 5.”

If you’re tired of Hallmark movies, a legal thriller from a living legend is the perfect holiday counter-programming. “Juror #2,” which people keep describing as possibly Clint Eastwood‘s final film even though I wish they wouldn’t, is coming to Max on Dec. 20, the streaming service announced Tuesday.
The release date comes amidst a controversial limited theatrical run for the film. Warner Bros. Discovery only released “Juror #2” in about 35 theaters, mostly for awards-qualifying purposes, which some feel is disrespectful to a filmmaker of Eastwood’s stature for what could be his final film, which I hope we’re not willing into being by saying it over and over again. “Has everyone at that studio forgotten what they owe Eastwood’s legacy?” IndieWire’s Tom Brueggeman wrote in a column arguing that Warner Bros. Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood’s legal thriller Juror #2, starring Nicholas Hoult (upcoming Superman), has been set to begin streaming exclusively on Max on Friday, December 20.
News of the premiere date follows the film’s quite limited theatrical release on November 1 to less than 50 theaters nationwide. The move saw distributor Warner Bros. Pictures draw criticism from many corners for not properly supporting perhaps one of the final films of a legendary 94-year-old director — a project that has also happened to garner positive reviews, from someone with a longstanding history with the studio.
Among the prominent voices in the filmmaking community who have advocated on Eastwood’s behalf is Guillermo del Toro, who recently took to rising social platform Blue Sky to discuss his experience with the film. Said Del Toro in part, “We saw [the film] at the Grove with a significant crowd that was vocal and responsive all the way. I...

Who knew pop star Ariana Grande was an adept musical comedienne? That surprise discovery should land her an Oscar nomination for Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of the global hit musical “Wicked”, which will prove a box-office juggernaut. On that much “Screen Talk” co-hosts Ryan Lattanzio and Anne Thompson agree; but he hates the cheesy visuals and loves Jonathan Bailey’s charismatic supporting turn as the romantic interest of both witches-in-training, while Anne admires the music, well-produced by Marc Platt and delivered with gusto by Cynthia Erivo and Grande.
“Wicked” follows Steven Spielberg’s recent “West Side Story,” which earned seven nominations in 2022 and a win for another supporting discovery, Ariana DeBose. And Rob Marshall’s film version of Bob Fosse’s “Chicago” (2002) was also one of 10 musical Best Picture winners. But we agree they were executed with more visual and technical mastery.

Guillermo del Toro is being the judge on the theatrical rollout for Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2.”
The Academy Award-winning director took to social media to question why Warner Bros. only gave an extremely limited theatrical release to Eastwood’s critically acclaimed legal thriller. The film opened November 1 in merely 31 U.S. and Canadian theaters, as well as in six European countries; it expanded to a handful of additional U.S. cities for its second week in theaters.
Del Toro is now urging audiences to go to the theaters to support “Juror #2,” while also asking Warner Bros. to hopefully leave the feature in theaters for longer.
“Went to the theatre to see ‘Juror #2,’ Clint Eastwood’s latest film. We enjoyed it tremendously. It’s — in some ways — his ‘Crimes and Misdemeanors,'” Del Toro wrote, via World of Reel. “The film is precisely and assuredly filmed and it’s Nicolas Hoult’s to lead.

Let’s start by giving Warner Bros. Discovery credit. They took a risk in financing “Juror #2,” a $30 million adult drama by a nonagenarian auteur whose last film (“Cry Macho”) grossed $16.5 million worldwide. And here, movie star Clint Eastwood was director only on the intimate, complex morality tale in the shape of a courtroom drama.

If the Warner Bros. logo was a badge, as opposed to a shield, Clint Eastwood would be the man behind it: the tough, rule-bending guy who sticks to his guns, à la Harry Callahan. So why is the studio doing him dirty on “Juror No. 2,” Eastwood’s 40th — and quite possibly last — stint in the director’s chair?
At 94, the star is just seven years younger than the studio with which he’s been associated since 1971. That was the year he shot “Dirty Harry” with his filmmaking mentor, Don Siegel, for WB, and it was also the year that Eastwood made his own directing debut, “Play Misty for Me,” over at Universal. He’s strayed from Warner Bros. just a few times since 1975, calling the studio home for nearly half a century, during which he’s earned four Oscars — and more than $4 billion at the box office.

Growing up in San Francisco, screenwriter Jonathan Abrams revered one Bay Area filmmaker especially.
“Clint Eastwood always loomed large not just as a national icon but a local icon,” Abrams told IndieWire. “From his earliest work, like ‘Play Misty for Me‘ and ‘Dirty Harry,’ he was very much associated with the city.” Later on, when Abrams discovered Eastwood’s 2003 masterpiece “Mystic River,” he saw a way to combine the demands and satisfactions of genre with something deeper and more personal. “That movie was the North Star for me. It’s about a murder investigation, but it doesn’t culminate in a massive gunfight. It’s really understated.”

Clint Eastwood has a long-standing relationship with Warner Bros. Pictures and has given them plenty of hits as a director and a star. So, it was highly controversial when WB’s plans for his latest film Juror No. 2 included a limited release with little to no marketing. Many criticized the studio for trying to bury the film despite Eastwood’s legacy.
However, when the For A Few Dollars More star was at the peak of his career, he could call the shots and bend the studio to his will. WB reportedly planned on reducing the violence in the film Dirty Harry. However, Eastwood reportedly put a stop to it at the script stage and demanded one particular thing.

Universal Pictures’ animated movie “The Wild Robot” regained the top spot at the UK and Ireland box office this weekend, making £2.179 million ($2.8 million) in its third week out. The movie has now made a total of £11.6 million ($15 million), which shows that it will do well in a challenging market.
Just behind in second place was “Venom: The Last Dance,” Sony’s superhero reboot, which made £2.175 million in its second weekend. The movie has quickly made £9.1 million since it came out, which shows that people are still interested in the series.
This weekend, several important new entries made the top ten. “Heretic” from Entertainment Film Distributors had the best opening weekend, making £1.9 million and coming in third. “Small Things Like These” from Lionsgate UK also found an audience, starting fourth place with £890,104.
Fans of scary movies kept going to see Paramount’s “Smile 2,” which made £600,979 in its third weekend, taking its total to £5.4 million.

‘Venom: The Last Dance’ was recently released. The final installment in the ‘Venom’ franchise has so far seen moderate success with audiences and critics, and a massive success in Asian countries based on the latest data.
If you recall, the movie was originally supposed to be released on November 8, but its date was shifted to October 25 to avoid the presidential election chaos.
This was a wise move, but even in this chaos, an increasing number of moviegoers cited movies as a way to escape the chaos of the election. By all means and the data currently available to us, Donald Trump will be returning to the White House, but a large number of the public has sought comfort and a way to escape the uncertainty by watching movies.

It’s 3 p.m. on Election Day, and New Yorker Hana Slevin is spending her afternoon at AMC Lincoln Square, where she can keep her phone out of sight and the fate of the free world out of mind.
“I’m going to treat myself and not look at the news or social media,” says Slevin, 34, before a screening of “A Real Pain,” a comedic drama starring Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg. “I keep going back and forth of wanting to put hopeful energy out there and not wanting to get crushed like I did in 2016. That’s why I’m trying to distract myself all day.”
Slevin isn’t alone. Plenty of people around the country are turning to the movies — their choices range from superhero sequels (“Venom: The Last Dance”) to courtroom dramas (“Juror #2”) — to escape the relentless media chyrons and take a break from following Steve Kornacki...

Much of the conversation around “Juror #2,” legendary 94-year-old filmmaker Clint Eastwood’s latest film, has been around Warner Bros. Discovery’s choice to not give the legal drama a full theatrical release. The Nicholas Hoult-led film opened in about 35 theaters, primarily just for an awards-qualifying run. But the film has been well-received by critics and has reportedly performed well in the handful of theaters in which it is screening, with Deadline reporting a weekend gross of between $260-275k, and Puck reporting a per screen average of $9100 at AMC theaters. Puck compared it to another new adult-skewing drama, “Here,” that has grossed less than $2000 per screen.
So “Juror #2” could have been a box office hit if it had been given a proper release. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, that was never the plan. Though it was never officially announced, “Juror #2” was always meant for the Max streaming service.

Clint Eastwood made a Saturday afternoon cable classic with Juror #2, and Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly always imagined it as such. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Juror #2 was always a streaming play meant for Max before cameras rolled and jury selection began. However, Warner Bros. Discovery also forgot to tell anyone...

It was an exceptionally quiet weekend at the box office. The only major new release was Robert Zemeckis' experimental drama "Here," which had a muted $5 million opening. So, holdovers like "Venom: The Last Dance," "The Wild Robot," and "Conclave" were responsible for holding down the fort, resulting in a weekend where the domestic box office totaled less than $75 million. That's not great. Clearly, there was room for more. Specifically, Warner Bros. may well have missed an opportunity here with Clint Eastwood's "Juror #2."
Readers would be forgiven for not knowing that Eastwood, a legend both as an actor and director, has a new movie in theaters, seeing as "Juror #2" was released in roughly 50 theaters in the U.S. this past weekend, with no expansion planned. WB is, essentially, only releasing the movie in theaters at all so that it can qualify for the Oscars later this year. At this time,...

“Venom: The Last Dance” notched an encouraging box office milestone, crossing the $300 million mark in its second weekend of release.
So far, the third and final entry in Sony’s alien symbiote comic book trilogy has grossed $317.1 million globally, including $227 million internationally and $90 million domestically. The film, led by Tom Hardy as the titular antihero, opened this weekend in France with $6.5 million and Japan with $3.8 million. Other top markets are China with $70.6 million and Mexico with $13.4 million. “The Last Dance” cost $120 million to produce, which is far less expensive than most superhero tentpoles. So, it should be decently positioned in its theatrical run even if grosses don’t match the two prior installments, 2018’s “Venom” ($856 million worldwide) and 2021’s “Let There Be Carnage” ($506 million worldwide).
Elsewhere at the international box office, Clint Eastwood’s “Juror No. 2” collected $5 million from 1,348 screens across six territories. The Warner Bros. film had the...

‘Juror #2’ Review: Clint Eastwood’s Throwback Legal Thriller Is One of the Best Studio Films of 2024
If there’s a downside to living to 94 and remaining healthy enough to work in Hollywood after being an entertainment icon in seven different decades, it’s that your films become impossible to separate from the arc of your life. A straightforward legal thriller can’t possibly be evaluated on its own terms when it hails from the nonagenarian who played Sergio Leone’s Man with No Name, sold countless .44 Magnums with an invitation to make his day, befriended a monkey in the two stupidest movies of the ‘70s, directed “Unforgiven,” “Letters From Iwo Jima,” “The Bridges of Madison County,” and “Million Dollar Baby,” spoke to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention, and spent the Covid-19 pandemic declaring his admiration for anyone who names his cock Macho.

Clint Eastwood’s new movie “Juror No. 2” had its premiere closing night screening at the American Film Institute’s festival in Los Angeles on Sunday. However, the 94-year-old legendary director was not there himself.
AFI president Bob Gazzale addressed the audience. He said Eastwood “could not be here with us tonight.” Still, Gazzale called the event a celebration of Eastwood’s extensive career both in front of and behind the camera. This includes his iconic “Dirty Harry” character and direction of films like “Richard Jewell” and “Play Misty for Me.”
The leads in “Juror No. 2,” Toni Collette and Nicholas Hoult, attended the premiere. Collette and Hoult had previously worked together in 2002’s “About a Boy.” Collette expressed gratitude for the chance to collaborate with Eastwood. She said working with him as a director “still blows my mind…but he is a truly good, solid human being.” Hoult called...

Clint Eastwood didn’t turn up for “Jury” duty in Los Angeles on Sunday, but that didn’t stop his lead actors and a few hundred moviegoers from sending him well wishes.

Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2 arrives in cinemas – eventually – next week. But don’t expect any box office reporting in the US…
If, as has been rumoured, the movie Juror #2 is to be the last to be made by Clint Eastwood (appreciating it may actually not be), then it seems to be getting a fairly shoddy hand from Warner Bros. The studio has been Eastwood’s filmmaking home for decades, delivering a constant collection of films and no shortage of money. Yet Juror #2 feels like it’s been bounced around an internal studio decision-making system.
At one stage, the film was being planned, it’s reported, for a streaming-only release. Then, it was finally confirmed to be arriving in cinemas. Then it turns out that in America, it’s only going to 50 cinemas. Now it’s also been left off Warner Bros awards campaigning list for this season.

AFI Fest, the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles, will cap off its 38th edition Sunday evening with the world premiere of Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2” at the historic Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette and Zoey Deutch will walk the red carpet, which marks the festival’s fourth world premiere of an Eastwood-directed feature. The courtroom drama is the filmmaker’s 40th directorial effort — and, given he’s 94 years old, it’s potentially his final one.
Four days later, Warner Bros. will give “Juror #2” a somewhat less distinguished treatment. The studio is putting out the feature in a limited release of less than 50 theaters, according to two sources with knowledge of the film’s distribution, with no current plans to expand to more locations in the following weeks.

While the Best Supporting Actress Oscar is often awarded to an ingenue, like the 2022 winner Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”), it can also be a way to reward a more seasoned performer. In 2024, Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Leftovers”) won on her first nomination A year earlier Jamie Lee Curtis had reaped her first Oscar bid at age 64 and prevailed for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” In 2021 Youn Yuh-jung, who is renowned in her native South Korea, won at age 73 for her first English film, “Minari.” And in 2020, the academy honored past nominee Laura Dern who finally took home an Oscar for her scene-stealing performance in “Marriage Story.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Supporting Actress.)
While Dern was clearly a featured player in her picture, two of her rival nominees, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie, could easily have submitted themselves in lead for their roles in “Little Women” and “Bombshell” respectively.

The prolific filmmaker, now 94, will debut his new film “Juror No. 2” in November. On Tuesday, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the project, which will have its world premiere at this year’s AFI Festival in Los Angeles.

Here’s the official synopsis from Warner Bros.

October 25 will mark 62 years since the release of the first film directed by Francis Ford Coppola: “Come on Out” (later retitled “Tonight for Sure”), a re-edited feature version of three different shorter nudie films he made while a film student at UCLA. It debuted in 1962, right in the middle of the Cuban missile crisis.
With “Megalopolis” opening, he likely has the longest feature film directorial career ever, ahead of Manoel de Oliveira (61 years), Jean-Luc Godard (58), Jerzy Skolimowsky (58), and Frederick Wiseman (56). Clint Eastwood, whose latest film “Juror #2” premieres next month, spans a mere 53 as a director.
To sustain a career that long necessitates a lot of success, which Coppola has had, led by “The Godfather.” But it has been a perilous journey, elongated (“Megalopolis” the most extreme) by his willingness to spend money to keep directing. Of note, his last studio-financed film was “The Rainmaker,” 27 years — and nearly half his career — ago.

There’s still no trailer to share, but we’re hoping one will materialise sooner rather than later.
But here’s the official synopsis to make up for the lack of a trailer:
