Jentry Chau focuses on the titular character, a girl with pyrokinetic powers that accidentally awoke them as a child, burning her hometown. As they resurface on the eve of her 16th birthday - also the date powerful mogwai spirits want to eat her soul - she has to deal with the trauma of her past experiences, navigate her teenage life, and try to survive.
In other words, a perfect and largely original (barrig romantic clichés) Chinese urban fantasy series. It is a good introduction to Chinese mythology and its various supernatural entities, accompanied by a hip and kpop soundtrack and a pleasant, almost comic-book like animation style.
A solid reccomendation.

As a cartoon lover, this show is definitely on my radar. After Netflix pulled off an amazing second and final season of Arcane and with the final season of The Dragon Prince coming before Christmas, I thought why not give this show a watch. If anything, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is not getting that much attention even before it's release - and it needs to because this series is absolutely good. I was expecting this to at least be decent, but it didn't need to go that far and entertain me so much.
For starters, Jentry Chau is a solid protagonist. She reminds me of Mei from Turning Red in which a curse has been brought down upon her which is fire power. And now, it's up to her on how she would be able to master them by not only fighting off evil creatures from the other side, but also trying her best to live a very normal high school life. I bought Jentry's personality and rooted for her whenever she is at an emotional low or trying to use the fire powers cursed on her for good.
The characters that assist her, Ed and Gugu, were great. At first, I was annoyed by Ed gives off Mister Mxyzptlk vibes from My Adventures with Superman. But as the show went on, the friendship that was formed between Jentry and Ed was real. Gugu, on the other hand, was a really interesting character. While I see her as someone trying to protect Jentry from understanding her past, you can't help but see where she is coming from as an aunt to her. She is not just one-sided character at all and that's what makes her so interesting.
The love interests, Kit and Michael were good enough as their interactions towards Jentry creates drama and tension, making it some sort of a love triangle. That being said, this isn't something that is being stretched out and just goes straight to the point. In terms of character, Kit was fascinating because of his dual side and how he relates to Jentry. However, even Michael also has problems in figuring out who he wants to be in life and that bodes well to Jentry too. There was a part of him that was left unexplained which is a flaw to his character but Michael still works nonetheless.
The show had a rough first episode. It had to set up everything regarding how Jentry realizes the curse, what is going on with Gugu, the reason needing to come back to where she came from and Jentry at least having control over her powers. But as the show went on in episodes two to five, it already found its footing and the pacing was consistent. But the highs were definitely in six to ten that did make me very emotional at times. I thought it was already over. But once I got to episode eleven to thirteen, it basically wrapped the story up as well as the character arcs for Jentry and even Gugu. It was really satisfying.
Don't get me started by the way when it comes to references because not only it gave off Star vs. The Forces of Evil vibes, it also had a lot of anime, specifically Naruto and even certain episodes that feels like Jujutsu Kaisen and even Parasyte: The Maxim. It also had some K-pop in early episodes like NCT 127. Also, each episode having a song was really cool to boost the action sequences and the animation was good, especially whenever the action scenes kick in.
For a show aimed at 10 years old and above, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld did not hold back with the violence. Like characters being stabbed and eaten by monsters, the stakes were actually real which does make you care for Jentry and her friends, hoping that none of them would get hurt.
So yeah, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is definitely worth the watch, a recommendation to cartoon fans who just want to watch a good cartoon series.

I don't say that I like a show because not only does it have a great story but wow the music in this show is really beautiful and gives off a really good beat.
When ever Jentry is going through an emotion with a family or a friend or a monster the music really hopes go through each of the episodes. You don't often get that in a cartoon series. But so far in 2024 Netflix has been doing really well with their animation department.
And to be honest I really hope that there will be a season 2. It's hard to find good fantasy shows with a modern perspective. Plus this show is also very funny. I hope it stays for a little while longer.

This show most definitely worth your time. Every second of it is something you should most definitely take in and enjoy. A season 2 is something I really would want from this show higher reviews higher stars on imdb is equal to this show having a future and not having a fate of being cancelled please watch this show it's so good and is something again really worth your time give this show a 10/10 on imdb and let Netflix see the rating itself we could get a second season to expand on the world more besides everyone might need it...
Sincerely from hazelbazel watch this show it's really good and amazing.

Netflix better keep this show going i'm already hooked and i need more episodes IMMEDIATELY!! I really love the art style and ofc my favourite is ed i mean bowens voice is just great for him
this was so cool from start to finish and i really hope we get to see seasons of development. A show about a girl fighting demons and monsters isn't new, but it's about the presentation, and Jentry Chau vs the Underworld has a great presentation. Memorable characters, fantastic action-packed animation, and an amazing coming-of-age arc. Really recommend, should everyone watch this peak ! This is like a true successor to Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Dont cancel this Netflix!!

While I am not 100% done with this series (I just finished episode 9) I felt very compelled to write a review.
Right off the bat, the visual style of this show is really just awesome, the vibrant colors are so eye-catching and they add a lot of emotion to the settings and characters. The show's title sequence animation is especially fun to watch. The soundtrack is also great, and combined with the great visuals it makes for a really interesting aesthetic.
As for the story, from what I have seen so far, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is shaping up to be a very exciting show, full of action, mystery, and lots of drama. It is so captivating to watch Jentry fight off demons from the underworld as she slowly uncovers the truth about her fire powers, and her mysterious past.
The show has some really interesting characters and concepts, a lot of which draw inspiration from Chinese mythology. It also attempts to tackle some slightly more mature themes and topics, and manages to do so pretty well.
Even though the show does draw on some slightly overused tropes (*cough cough* love triangle) it still tries to be fresh and original. Which is always nice to see.
It feels like this series still has a lot of room to grow. I personally am really excited to see how this season ends and am holding out hope for a season two!

Jentry Chau Vs The Underworld is not only the best show of the year, but one of the best shows l've ever seen. It is incredibly fun & action packed, gory, and amazingly animated. Ali Wong & Bohen Wang give the roles of their life, and the same goes to the cast.
I can't say this enough, I love the animation and how it looks. It's held in this specific aspect ratio the whole time, and it looks so theatrical and fluid. It is one of the best looking shows I've ever seen. Other than that, the culture on display, and how it adds to the story and worldbuilding is amazing. I love all the characters, and how the show even subverted some character traits later in the season. The emotional moments hit my soul, but it's also very funny and well written, with twist after twist after twist. The story shockingly always had a way to keep itself innovative.

OKAY! NETFLIX COOKED WITH THIS!! Besides the first 3 episodes being kind of slow. When it got to the 4th episode it started to pick up and the world building, character development, writing, story and animation + Jentry's having badass fire/dark powers, all of theses things were dope and I hope we get a season 2 because I NEED MORE OF THIS WORLD!! Super glad netflix is pushing more Anime stuff out.
"Jentry Chau vs The Underworld" is a great animation series from Netflix! With world building that is interesting and enjoyable. The story and writing is also very engaging with each episode that goes by. And I was OBSESSED with the character development in this show! Especially with Jentry since 1. She had fire powers and 2. Dark powers! So I knew I was going to enjoy this but I didn't expect this to be this good since it is Netflix after all, but I was wrong and this actually PRETTY GOOD !!

Wow, this show was fantastic. Genuinely something that only comes around once in a blue moon. The animation reminds me of Scott Pilgrim, and you can tell the show takes inspiration from many others such as American Dragon: Jake Long. The best way I can describe it is an adult version of American Dragon: Jake Long, but still manages to fall into the kids category. This show is not afraid to push the boundaries of what a kids show can be, and is definitely at least oriented towards teens. Despite that, the entire show feels authentic and doesn't try to be anything else than what it aims for. From episodes 10 and onwards I had to fight back tears in multiple scenes I watched, and I'm not exactly a crier for shows. Netflix would be astoundingly dumb to not renew this show for a second season.

Honestly I feel bad writing a poor review of anything but I was so infuriated with this show I had to. The characters start of alright but with time not only lose the charm but also prove to be incredibly selfish on many occasions (with few exceptions of course). The show doesn't have a sound sense of consequences which it realises at the end and throws everything in like 3 episodes? And at the very end I just can't force myself to feel bad for a certain character due to the completely horrid choices they made which are resolved with a 'I'm sorry' and later on are ignored. ONE character whom actually tried to fix their mistakes gets 'put to the side' when writes run out of ideas and they got in a way of the romance. I can't say it was all bad I enjoyed the designs and few scenes but I can't be recommending it without a guilty conscience.(I apologise for grammar mistakes I'm not form an English speaking country)
