Jentry Chau focuses on the titular character, a girl with pyrokinetic powers that accidentally awoke them as a child, burning her hometown. As they resurface on the eve of her 16th birthday - also the date powerful mogwai spirits want to eat her soul - she has to deal with the trauma of her past experiences, navigate her teenage life, and try to survive.
In other words, a perfect and largely original (barrig romantic clichés) Chinese urban fantasy series. It is a good introduction to Chinese mythology and its various supernatural entities, accompanied by a hip and kpop soundtrack and a pleasant, almost comic-book like animation style.
A solid reccomendation.

As a cartoon lover, this show is definitely on my radar. After Netflix pulled off an amazing second and final season of Arcane and with the final season of The Dragon Prince coming before Christmas, I thought why not give this show a watch. If anything, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is not getting that much attention even before it's release - and it needs to because this series is absolutely good. I was expecting this to at least be decent, but it didn't need to go that far and entertain me so much.
For starters, Jentry Chau is a solid protagonist. She reminds me of Mei from Turning Red in which a curse has been brought down upon her which is fire power. And now, it's up to her on how she would be able to master them by not only fighting off evil creatures from the other side, but also trying her best to live a very normal high school life. I bought Jentry's personality and rooted for her whenever she is at an emotional low or trying to use the fire powers cursed on her for good.
The characters that assist her, Ed and Gugu, were great. At first, I was annoyed by Ed gives off Mister Mxyzptlk vibes from My Adventures with Superman. But as the show went on, the friendship that was formed between Jentry and Ed was real. Gugu, on the other hand, was a really interesting character. While I see her as someone trying to protect Jentry from understanding her past, you can't help but see where she is coming from as an aunt to her. She is not just one-sided character at all and that's what makes her so interesting.
The love interests, Kit and Michael were good enough as their interactions towards Jentry creates drama and tension, making it some sort of a love triangle. That being said, this isn't something that is being stretched out and just goes straight to the point. In terms of character, Kit was fascinating because of his dual side and how he relates to Jentry. However, even Michael also has problems in figuring out who he wants to be in life and that bodes well to Jentry too. There was a part of him that was left unexplained which is a flaw to his character but Michael still works nonetheless.
The show had a rough first episode. It had to set up everything regarding how Jentry realizes the curse, what is going on with Gugu, the reason needing to come back to where she came from and Jentry at least having control over her powers. But as the show went on in episodes two to five, it already found its footing and the pacing was consistent. But the highs were definitely in six to ten that did make me very emotional at times. I thought it was already over. But once I got to episode eleven to thirteen, it basically wrapped the story up as well as the character arcs for Jentry and even Gugu. It was really satisfying.
Don't get me started by the way when it comes to references because not only it gave off Star vs. The Forces of Evil vibes, it also had a lot of anime, specifically Naruto and even certain episodes that feels like Jujutsu Kaisen and even Parasyte: The Maxim. It also had some K-pop in early episodes like NCT 127. Also, each episode having a song was really cool to boost the action sequences and the animation was good, especially whenever the action scenes kick in.
For a show aimed at 10 years old and above, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld did not hold back with the violence. Like characters being stabbed and eaten by monsters, the stakes were actually real which does make you care for Jentry and her friends, hoping that none of them would get hurt.
So yeah, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is definitely worth the watch, a recommendation to cartoon fans who just want to watch a good cartoon series.

I don't say that I like a show because not only does it have a great story but wow the music in this show is really beautiful and gives off a really good beat.
When ever Jentry is going through an emotion with a family or a friend or a monster the music really hopes go through each of the episodes. You don't often get that in a cartoon series. But so far in 2024 Netflix has been doing really well with their animation department.
And to be honest I really hope that there will be a season 2. It's hard to find good fantasy shows with a modern perspective. Plus this show is also very funny. I hope it stays for a little while longer.

Please please please, make this show run for at least another couple of seasons😭
It's beautifully written, the animation is great and brings back nostalgia for the best 2000-2010s shows and the soundtrack is AMAZING! Everything ties together perfectly.
The comedy brings relief through tough moments and the drama is deep and not just shallow.
Ed (voiced by Bowen Yang) is such a genuinely funny character who not only brings the laughs and comfort but also drives the story in a special way.
Jentry is a very well constructed main character. Her arc and growth is very interesting to watch.
This show had me SEATED. Literally could not move without finding out what's going to happen next.
It reminded me of some of my other favorite shows like ATLA, w.i.t.c.h., Dead Boy Detectives, Naruto, and even Spider-Man (kind of).

This show most definitely worth your time. Every second of it is something you should most definitely take in and enjoy. A season 2 is something I really would want from this show higher reviews higher stars on imdb is equal to this show having a future and not having a fate of being cancelled please watch this show it's so good and is something again really worth your time give this show a 10/10 on imdb and let Netflix see the rating itself we could get a second season to expand on the world more besides everyone might need it...
Sincerely from hazelbazel watch this show it's really good and amazing.

While I am not 100% done with this series (I just finished episode 9) I felt very compelled to write a review.
Right off the bat, the visual style of this show is really just awesome, the vibrant colors are so eye-catching and they add a lot of emotion to the settings and characters. The show's title sequence animation is especially fun to watch. The soundtrack is also great, and combined with the great visuals it makes for a really interesting aesthetic.
As for the story, from what I have seen so far, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is shaping up to be a very exciting show, full of action, mystery, and lots of drama. It is so captivating to watch Jentry fight off demons from the underworld as she slowly uncovers the truth about her fire powers, and her mysterious past.
The show has some really interesting characters and concepts, a lot of which draw inspiration from Chinese mythology. It also attempts to tackle some slightly more mature themes and topics, and manages to do so pretty well.
Even though the show does draw on some slightly overused tropes (*cough cough* love triangle) it still tries to be fresh and original. Which is always nice to see.
It feels like this series still has a lot of room to grow. I personally am really excited to see how this season ends and am holding out hope for a season two!

Netflix better keep this show going i'm already hooked and i need more episodes IMMEDIATELY!! I really love the art style and ofc my favourite is ed i mean bowens voice is just great for him
this was so cool from start to finish and i really hope we get to see seasons of development. A show about a girl fighting demons and monsters isn't new, but it's about the presentation, and Jentry Chau vs the Underworld has a great presentation. Memorable characters, fantastic action-packed animation, and an amazing coming-of-age arc. Really recommend, should everyone watch this peak ! This is like a true successor to Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Dont cancel this Netflix!!

Jentry Chau Vs The Underworld is not only the best show of the year, but one of the best shows l've ever seen. It is incredibly fun & action packed, gory, and amazingly animated. Ali Wong & Bohen Wang give the roles of their life, and the same goes to the cast.
I can't say this enough, I love the animation and how it looks. It's held in this specific aspect ratio the whole time, and it looks so theatrical and fluid. It is one of the best looking shows I've ever seen. Other than that, the culture on display, and how it adds to the story and worldbuilding is amazing. I love all the characters, and how the show even subverted some character traits later in the season. The emotional moments hit my soul, but it's also very funny and well written, with twist after twist after twist. The story shockingly always had a way to keep itself innovative.

I was intrigued by the trailer on Netflix, and decided to give this series a try. I was drawn into it quite quickly. Its drawing style, animation and soundtrack were all really good. The story was fine too. The protagonist seemed relatable, as well as most of the side characters. But then episode 11 happened, which introduced annoyance in addition to my already existing joy with the series. Characters began making decisions that I found really dumb and illogical and just too difficult to overlook. Don't want to spoil, but seriously, at some points I just couldn't not roll my eyes and sigh.
I watched Jentry till the end and I'm not regretting. But I would have probably rated it higher if it wasn't for the last two or three episodes.

OKAY! NETFLIX COOKED WITH THIS!! Besides the first 3 episodes being kind of slow. When it got to the 4th episode it started to pick up and the world building, character development, writing, story and animation + Jentry's having badass fire/dark powers, all of theses things were dope and I hope we get a season 2 because I NEED MORE OF THIS WORLD!! Super glad netflix is pushing more Anime stuff out.
"Jentry Chau vs The Underworld" is a great animation series from Netflix! With world building that is interesting and enjoyable. The story and writing is also very engaging with each episode that goes by. And I was OBSESSED with the character development in this show! Especially with Jentry since 1. She had fire powers and 2. Dark powers! So I knew I was going to enjoy this but I didn't expect this to be this good since it is Netflix after all, but I was wrong and this actually PRETTY GOOD !!

Watched Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld... I've never seen such a criminally bad show, although the idea and potential were very good... But it looks like the writer/s slept through all the screenwriting classes and created this...
As much as the artists tried their best with the animation and art, everything else is just as bad. Logic, jokes, a lot of clichés and tropes are stuck one after another... All the characters do stupid illogical things, while the authors try to push us love triangles and dramas that just don't work.
At some points, the plot starts to gain momentum and there is a vague hope that things will get better, but the script says "not today, my friend"
I would also like to point out the absurd number of "the protagonist could do it because he is the protagonist and he is strong". 90% of the protagonist's difficulties are solved by herself or because she is "strong" or "chosen"
4/10 - and that's because of the work of the artists and the general idea.

Wow, this show was fantastic. Genuinely something that only comes around once in a blue moon. The animation reminds me of Scott Pilgrim, and you can tell the show takes inspiration from many others such as American Dragon: Jake Long. The best way I can describe it is an adult version of American Dragon: Jake Long, but still manages to fall into the kids category. This show is not afraid to push the boundaries of what a kids show can be, and is definitely at least oriented towards teens. Despite that, the entire show feels authentic and doesn't try to be anything else than what it aims for. From episodes 10 and onwards I had to fight back tears in multiple scenes I watched, and I'm not exactly a crier for shows. Netflix would be astoundingly dumb to not renew this show for a second season.

If you enjoy shows such as The Owl House, KIPO, Amphibia, Star vs. The Forces of Evil, and Glitch techs I can guarantee you'll love this show.
There is a great mix of horror, comedy, action, and romance within this show which will have you binging the entire series. I would say this show is targeted for teen audiences but can be enjoyable to most ages!
The animation is beautiful especially during action scenes And the opening song (by KATSEYE) is absolute fire!
The main character Jentry Chau develops a lot over the series and you really get to see grow as a person. We watch as she learns to accept parts of herself and others. We also get see a bit of Jentry's family dynamic which is very complicated and thought out.
Usually shorter shows do not dive as deep into side characters but I believe Jentry Chau vs. The Undeworld has an extremely well written cast of side characters such as a character you meet early on named Kit which is one of my favourite written characters in the entire series.
There are many references to other pieces of media which I really enjoyed and really modernized the show in a good way.
If you are worried about Netflix canceling the series do not worry because the show wraps up very nicely with keeping a few things open ended incase of another season.
I believe everyone should give this show a chance and hopefully we will get a season two!

It's been a while since we got a tv cartoon with an overarching plot so l'm crossing my fingers Netflix decides to continue Jentry Chau! They just need to promote this more and more cause no one is watching it and I 100% know that most of people don't know it exists
TBH, IT DEFEATED ANY AND ALL EXPECTATIONS.
Seriously, nothing could've prepared me for what this show brings to the table, it's amazingly weird but touching, at the same time. Echo Wu achieved a great balance.
Huge applause for the animators, designers, writers, painters, the whole crew! Also, the voice actors are so funny and cool!
You can tell Jentry is a work of love!!

It's not every day you see a cartoon that exceeds your expectations as much as this one does. Jentry Chau is one of the best shows I've seen in a while, and it deserves more attention. Everything about it is excellent, from the killer soundtrack to the stylistic animation to the engaging characters to the extremely well-developed lore. And although it's aimed toward teens, it's a show people of all ages can enjoy.
Jentry Chau is a teen girl who has to deal with the drama of high school while fighting off demons trying to kill her for her powers. She's helped by her great-aunt, a powerful Daoist priestess, and a shape-shifting demon. But the coolness of the premise doesn't stop there. Jentry not only defeats ghosts and demons, but she also uncovers the mystery of her parents' deaths and explores stunning yet terrifying new realms. The show does an amazing job at balancing the plot with the world-building, introducing new conflicts and new settings with each episode.
Please give Jentry Chau a chance. Netflix has a nasty habit of cancelling great shows before they have a chance to reach their full potential, and the only way to keep that from happening is showing your support for the show. If you're a fan of fantasy, coming-of-age stories, or Chinese mythology, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld is definitely worth your time.

I believe the concept and the pitch was good in Netflix's offices, but the execution is so bad. The character design for exception of one character is really bad, impresive bad. I hated how her friend is the embodiment of a mexican sterotype it was pretty upsetting. Not joking.
The writing/script feels like it was done by a 17 y/o high with a Wattpad and k-pop addiction, there's times where things and actions are illogical (ex. The alamo episode in it's entirety), and they treat their audience like they're straight up dumb, the characters try so hard to be tri-dimensional but their actions a lot of times don't alliygn with their values and it feels they just hope it gives them deeper meaning but it just feels a lot of times unecessary. The idea is so good it's depressing to see how it gets worse and worse with every episode. Everything the plot sets for you always ends up being disappointing or exposing a "plot twist" 5 minutes after.
The animation is really disappointing, the intro is really good which sucks because the show itself doesn't follow through with that animation or expectations.
If this gets a season 2 over "inside job" I'd be pretty upset.
I put the last 4 episodes on 2x speed because it seriously felt like a stretch in plot, tho watching them I'm not sure if the animation got good or the increase in frames per second by the speed gives that impression.
In the end, the idea was good, the execution simply doesn't feel like it hit the mark to today's standards in narrative. I know it's TV-PG but considering the complexity of the plot itself it feels like it wasn't intended to be that rating at all, and it falls short to be simple and interesting enough to be truly "all ages" but it's too watered down to be for a bigger audience. It's looking at an extremely niché group of people.
I left out my own opinion on more specifics in plot as to not insert spoilers.
I finished watcing just out of spite, to make an informed opinion, and to support animation. Yes all 13 30 minute episodes.

What a great show, it was very well put together all the characters are very well written, every episode is entertaining with something new to learn about, either a character, backstory or something completely new all together. In my opinion I can't find anything wrong with Jentry Chau Vs the underworld if anything I wise it continued on or even extended the episodes to cover more, I just feel like there is more to tell with this story, characters and the mythology in the show.
The show is so good I just had to create an account and write this to express just how much I love this show, characters and story.
I just hope everyone else gets to watch and experience this show and we can hopefully get a season 2 one day.

A story of a 16-year-old girl with flame powers, demons, and all other supernatural context. This definitely needs a couple more seasons!
This is a very different show, along with Arcane, The Dragon Prince on Netflix, and on Disney Plus the Owl house, they all have their own unique styles. Jentry Chau VS the Underworld has a booming playlist of music, and can say they sound awesome! I have watched many cartoons, especially as a 25-year-old man who still watches animation and would always desire to explore, and learn about new cartoons. It is literally a great series and after finishing it, I feel sad it is all over.
The way they scripted and portrayed Jentry Chau is the most unique I've seen, I hope with many great reviews they potentially do a season 2 with a new chapter.
A masterpiece - thank you Echo, the creator, for making one of my all time favourite animations ever to be seen!

I feel so happy when I seen this, I found this show by the YouTube channel Spilling The Milk and I am so impressed with this show, the animation is spot-on, and the storyline is very interesting, it has multiple plot twists and is very dramatic, also the music is very slay and K-Pop. All though at the credit scenes music says 'Take a deep breath going to go titanic' I busted out laughing at that, also the characters have nice designs to remember, especially how Jentry's father looks like Markplier.
Overall, I will watch this when I get Netflix and I will make my mom watch this too, i really hope that this show will get a second season.
