When bloody zombies — creepily mouthing the words their human selves once said — gather outside your home, how far are you willing to go to protect your loved ones? Directed by Carlo Ledesma (The Tunnel), the zombie horror film Outside follows a family of four in the Philippines as they attempt to survive an undead outbreak that’s plaguing the country. But the longer they stay holed up in an abandoned house, the threats start coming from inside instead of out. The first-ever Filipino zombie film, starring Sid Lucero, Beauty Gonzalez, and Marco Masa, was co-written by Ledesma and Anton Santamaria (The Tunnel).
“More than anything, Outside is a story about family,” Ledesma told Netflix about the film. “It explores how a family could fall apart, and it played out my worst fears as a father.”

Outside, the first ever zombie film produced in the Philippines, has revealed its first full trailer.
The Netflix feature, from Filipino director Carlo Ledesma, drops on the streamer on Oct. 17 and, judging by the first proper clip, ramps up the tension and terror in the tropics.
Outside is set in a remote province of the Philippines, an area of small villages, rice paddies and sugar cane fields, and tells the story of a family trying to outrun the zombie outbreak by returning to the father’s childhood farmhouse, fortifying it to keep out “The Dead Ones.”
Though zombies are the key attraction, the film delves deep into issues such as generational trauma and abuse. The film stars Sid Lucero as the troubled father, Beauty Gonzalez as the strong-willed mother and Marco Masa and Aiden Patdu as their terrified sons.

Finland’s Fireframe Studios has boarded upcoming Arctic thriller “The Ice.”
Developed in collaboration with Nordisk Film Production, it’s based on the successful novel by Norwegian writer John Kåre Raake, also behind movies “The Wave” and “The Quake,” and series “The Fortress.”
Filming is scheduled for next year.
The story plays out at one of Earth’s most inhospitable places, the North Pole, with the team teasing “The Ice” as a “highlight for thrill-seeking audience, combining high concept with tense political conflicts.” As well as “ice-cold thrills and warm human drama.”
“It’s an ideal co-production for Fireframe. Much of the film relies on virtual production, which is our specialty,” said Mikko Kodisoja, Fireframe’s founder and CEO. Kodisoja is one of the founders of Finnish mobile game development company Supercell.

Mentioning this because we haven't spoken about this movie up until now. Pal Oie, director of the 2019 disaster action movie The Tunnel, is heading back to the director's chair this year with a monster movie, Kraken. Kraken will follow a marine biologist who discovers the eponymous mythical monster while doing research near Norway’s deepest fjord. Yes, despite how many times you or I have yelled out in our lives, 'Release the Kraken!!!", in our best Liam Neeson Greek, the mythical creature's origin is truly Norwegian. I was today years old when I found that out. We should have been saying, "Slipp Kraken fri!", all along. ScreenDaily reported last night/this morning that Danish sales outfit TrustNordisk have joined on board to handle...

George Kay looks conflicted. Speaking to Deadline before the resolution of the writers strike, the British WGA member had put down his pen on an Amazon Studios movie project and ducked a U.S. publicity round for his Apple TV+ series Hijack. But it’s fair to say that the strikes coincided with Kay having a serious moment.
Not unlike the protagonist in Hijack, Idris Elba’s brooding professional negotiator Sam Nelson, Kay has spent years maneuvering his way between three complex projects for Apple, Netflix and ITV/Sundance—only for them all to launch within four months of each other.
Just like Nelson’s character in Hijack—“He gets brought in, by big companies…when it all kicks off,” Nelson’s wife explains to a police officer in the show—Kay’s the man you bring in when you want to deliver a character-led thriller that will keep viewers hooked over several episodes.

Canal+ Group chairman and CEO Maxime Saada, who was honored at Mipcom with the Variety Vanguard Award Monday, underscored how the experience of the past informs the company’s future strategy, which includes an emphasis on aggregation and a ramping up of in-house production. He also explained why he believes his company “owes so much to Netflix,” but fears Amazon and YouTube.
“If you want to talk about the last seven or eight years you have to think about the history of Canal+ because it has driven a lot of our actions. One of the most bizarre aspects of the second season of AppleTV+’s sci-fi series Invasion is how the pacing turns out to be random and all over the place. While the first and third episodes accelerated the narrative by deftly handling multiple storylines at once, the second and fourth episodes dedicate entire episodes to rather inconsequential segments that barely move the plot forward, if at all. Especially the fourth episode, The Tunnel, tries to put a survival horror twist in the narrative flow, and in doing so, it not only disrupts the pacing but also goes way off course with the central plotline.
In the previous episode, Mitsuki’s maneuver involving the formless alien entity disabled the cloaking mechanism of the invading alien attack vessels, which gave the Wdc a brief window of time to shoot the majority of them down. Contains some plot details for Heartstopper season two but no real spoilers.
Despite featuring no superheroes, superpowers or elaborate plans to destroy Gotham City, Heartstopper was one of 2022’s most anticipated comic book adaptations, and its second season – out now on Netflix – was no different. Alice Oseman’s webcomic about two British high school boys who fall in love has an extremely devoted fanbase who only have to see a drawing of falling leaves – Charlie and Nick’s romantic motif – to spill over with excitement.
The Netflix show, written and produced by Oseman, was such a hit that it was immediately renewed for seasons two and three, meaning fans could follow the on-screen stories of beloved characters Elle, Tao, Tara, Darcy and Isaac, alongside those of Nick and Charlie, past their Gcse year and beyond.

Screenwriter Bo Goldman, who won Oscars for his scripts to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Melvin and Howard” and was among a select group of film scribes including Robert Towne and William Goldman considered to be among that generation’s best, died Tuesday in Helendale, Calif., his son-in-law, director Todd Field, confirmed to the New York Times. He was 90.
Goldman was also Oscar nominated for 1993’s “Scent of a Woman.”
The 1976 Oscar he shared with Lawrence Hauben for co-adapting Ken Kesey’s novel “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was a particularly impressive achievement considering that “Cuckoo’s Nest” represented only Goldman’s second screenplay and the first to be produced. The win for adapted screenplay was part of a sweep for the film that also included victories for best picture, director, actor and actress. Plans for “The Walking Dead” spinoff featuring fan favorite characters Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) dramatically changed when it was announced a year ago that McBride was exiting the series. Apple TV+ thriller “Suspicion” is set to hit the sales block in Cannes at this year’s MipTV market.
Keshet International has revealed that the eight-part series starring Uma Thurman will headline its drama slate at the spring TV market in France, which kicks off on April 17. The Israeli TV distributor will shop linear rights for the series.
Apple TV+ commissioned Keshet U.K. to produce “Suspicion,” which is based on the popular Israeli series “False Flag” and launched on the service in February 2022. Its sales foray marks one of the rare instances where an original on a streamer (that’s still available globally on the platform) has been sold on the open market for linear rights.
In recent years, major SVODs have been focused on keeping originals on their own platforms for extensive periods in order to drive subscribers. However, in this case, it’s Keshet International that holds...

Neil Forsyth’s The Gold is a true crime drama with a distinctive perspective. As much as it’s about the cat-and-mouse chase between the robbers of £26 million’s worth of gold bullion in November 1983, and the special task force trying to catch them, it’s also about the British class system. Over six episodes (airing weekly on BBC One and available as a box-set on BBC iPlayer), Forsyth tells a story about villains on both sides of the social divide and the entrenched systems protecting those at the top. His London is just as veined with establishment corruption, freemasonry and snobbery as it is with armed robbers, hooky fences and locals who keep their mouths shut for fear of reprisal.
The ensemble drama covers the period from the 1983 robbery, then the largest gold heist in British history, to the investigation and sentencing of select ring leaders. The story, as the newspapers show,...

"There is a trace of truth in all fairy tales." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for Troll, an epic new creature feature + disaster movie all in one. The latest offering from Norway in their disaster movie series - featuring The Wave, The Tunnel, The Quake, and The Burning Sea previously. (So why isn't this one called The Troll?) Deep in the Dovre mountain, something gigantic wakes up after a thousand years in captivity. The creature destroys everything in its path and quickly heads to Oslo. This one is directed by Roar Uthaug, director of Norway's The Wave and the 2018 Hollywood version of Tomb Raider. He went back to Norway to bring us this troll spectacle. Troll stars Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora, with Kim Falck, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, and Gard B. Eidsvold. Yeah this looks gnarly so far!! It definitely seems like this is Norway's Godzilla, also acting as...

Jamie Lee Curtis is synonymous with "Halloween." Across seven films, out of a whopping 13 in the franchise, Curtis has breathed life into Laurie Strode—the archetype for the Final Girl. She's intuitive, strong, and capable. In each encounter with The Boogeyman, she resolves to survive and seeks to put evil six feet under the ground. From her debut appearance in the 1978 original film to David Gordon Green's "Halloween Ends," Curtis commanded the screen with rich, depth-shattering performances. She plunged into the darkest recesses of the human condition to carve out a character that defines what it means to be strong and resilient amidst crisis.
Along Laurie's journey, the audience has learned and grown too. Laurie has taught us how to muster up the courage to stand tall in our lives and do what must be done to defeat our own monsters. We are all Laurie. Through every single high...

There’s something inherently terrifying about subterranean horror. Getting trapped underground creates a tense survival scenario thanks to various dangers. But what about what’s lurking in the dark? Survival horror with carnivorous creatures provides fertile ground for fear.
Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) is back with the brand new underground monster movie The Lair, which comes to theaters and on Digital and VOD on October 28, 2022.
In The Lair, “Royal Air Force pilot Lt. Kate Sinclair (Charlotte Kirk) is shot down over Afghanistan and finds refuge in an abandoned underground bunker where deadly man-made biological weapons – half human, half alien – are awakened.”
Jonathan Howard (Thor: The Dark World) and Jamie Bamber (“Battlestar Galactica”) also star.
Charlotte Kirk co-wrote the screenplay with Neil Marshall.
In anticipation of Marshall’s return to the subterranean creature feature, we look back at eight horror movies that feature underground monsters.

July Jung made one of the best recent debuts of recent times in Korean cinema back in 2014 with her “A Girl at My Door”, a gritty and superbly acted social drama which screened in the Un Certain Regard category at Cannes Film Festival. It went on to receive much critical acclaim and multiple awards at film festivals, with both the director and lead actress Bae Doona receiving praise and accolades for their work. Jung instantly became a director to watch out for but little did we know that it would take eight years before she would step behind the camera again for “Next Sohee”, which closed the International Critics’ Week at Cannes this year.
