Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. rights to Caden Douglas’ dark comedy “Mother Father Sister Brother Frank.” The distributor will release the film on Tvod beginning Oct. 8. The film has also been sold for U.K., Australia and New Zealand distribution rights to Miracle Media Investments, which plans to release the film later this year.

The film follows a suburban family as their uncle crashes Sunday dinner with a nasty surprise, and murder winds up on the menu. It had its world premiere earlier this year at Panic Fest in the U.S.

The cast is led by Mindy Cohn as the mother, Enrico Colantoni as the father, Melanie Leishman as the sister, Iain Stewart (“Reign”) as the brother, Juan Chioran as Frank, and Sharron Matthews.

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for Scavengers Reign fans over the last two months. First, the acclaimed animated sci-fi series was canceled by Max after one season. Then its first season got a non-exclusive second run on Netflix while remaining on Max, raising the possibility for more episodes if it does well at its new home.

But when Scavengers Reign debuted on Netflix May 31, it didn’t get the proverbial “Netflix boost” and did not break into the streamer’s weekly Top 10 rankings, dampening hopes for a Season 2 pickup.

Then this morning, Scavengers Reign landed an Emmy nomination in the very competitive, high-profile category of Outstanding Animated Program.

That would likely give the show a boost as Netflix makes its decisions based on cost vs.

Prabhas has done it again. He has managed a very good opening number for his film, not just in the regional version but also in the Hindi version. It was a humble beginning with Baahubali: The Beginning, though, but ever since then, he has consistently scored in the 10s, 20s, 30s and 40s for the first-day collections. Barring Radhe Shyam, which looked doomed when its first trailer arrived, Prabhas has been driving the box office rather consistently.

In fact, exactly the same time last year when Adipurush arrived, the film had taken an excellent start of 36 crores. However, 2024 is a different year, and hence, everything has to be done with caution. One is not seeing those 20 crores and 30 crores opening day numbers anymore, and survival is the key.

Scavengers Reign has had its reign cut short at Max — but it’s about to enter a whole new world.

The animated sci-fi series has been cancelled after one season at Max, but Netflix will begin streaming its one and only season on Friday, May 31, our sister site Variety reports. Netflix is also considering picking up the series for a second season, “but a decision won’t be made until after Season 1’s debut on the streamer,” per Variety.

ABC’s Doctor Odyssey is adding another cast member to its staff: Sean Teale (The Gifted, Reign) will be joining Joshua Jackson as a series regular on the upcoming medical drama, TVLine has learned.

No character details for Teale’s role have been released, but we know that Jackson stars as the title character, “whose charms help him get what he wants.” Doctor Odyssey — which has received a straight-to-series order from ABC and is slated to debut this fall — is set aboard a cruise ship, with Don Johnson (Miami Vice) and Phillipa Soo (Shining Girls) also set to co-star.

Sean Teale has been cast as a series regular in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming ABC series “Dr. Odyssey,” Variety has learned.

Teale will star in the series alongside previously announced lead Joshua Jackson as well as fellow cast members Don Johnson and Phillipa Soo. Plot and character details for the show are being kept under wraps, but sources say the series is a medical procedural set on a cruise ship. It is slated to premiere during the 2024-2025 broadcast season.

Teale first broke out as a cast member in the popular UK series “Skins,” holding a main role in the series during its fifth and sixth seasons. He went on to star in shows like “Mr. Selfridge” and “Reign.” His other recent credits include leading the Syfy series “Incorporated” as well as starring in shows like “The Gifted” at Fox, “Little Voice” at Apple TV+, and “Who Is Erin Carter?” at Netflix.

Rounding out the series regular cast of the Ryan Murphy ABC drama series Doctor Odyssey is Sean Teale. He joins previously announced stars Joshua Jackson, Don Johnson and Phillipa Soo.

As with any Ryan Murphy series, no details about the premise are being revealed. As the title suggests, Doctor Odyssey is believed to be a medical procedural. According to sources, it is set on a cruise ship.  

Character descriptions for all involved are also under wraps. It hails from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.

Doctor Odyssey is written and executive produced by Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. Paris Barclay is directing and executive producing. Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Nissa Diederich also executive produce alongside Jackson.

Rebecca Ferguson has revealed how she confronted an unnamed co-star and demanded that they be removed from a film after the individual “screamed” at her.

In an interview with the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, the Dune: Part Two actress recalled how she found her voice in challenging her “absolute idiot” co-star and has not been bullied since.

Ferguson did not reveal the identity of the actor, nor did she gender the individual. She did confirm, however, that it was not Hugh Jackman or Tom Cruise, who she starred alongside in The Greatest Showman and Mission Impossible respectively.

Spielberg: The First Ten Years by Laurent Bouzereau (Insight Editions) and Steven Spielberg: All the Films by Olivier Bousquet, Arnaud Devillard, and Nicolas Schaller (Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers)

I am not sure what Steven Spielberg obsessives like myself did to earn two lengthy, photo-backed, hardcover career appreciations, but I’m not complaining. Steven Spielberg: All the Films runs for nearly 500 pages and covers literally everything, from the director’s contributions to Rod Serling’s Night Gallery to The Fabelmans. Along the way are some unique insights, surprising facts (Leonardo DiCaprio was approached to play Tintin?), and the inclusion of some of his 1980s television work. And Spielberg: The First Ten Years is just as engaging, and even more in-depth.

Where a lot of American adult animated shows focus on the explicit or taboo nature of what’s being shown rather than how it’s aesthetically represented — take the stammering comedy and splatter sci-fi of Rick and Morty, for one generationally influential example — the likes of Blue Eye Samurai and Scavengers Reign are arrestingly different. They’re striking for their visual experimentation, their use of a roaming 3D animation camera and the graphic textures of traditional 2D.

Blue Eye Samurai’s a hybrid of live-action pre-visualization, while Scavengers Reign leans into more classical inspirations. But they’re both that rare beast of adult animation: original works. The two series sit highly among my very favorite shows of the year for their sense of invention, and give me some hope that adult animation will continue to show an interest in the different ways the medium can directly evoke more mature conversations.
