Good attempt
First of all appreciation to the whole team for this attempt . Yaathisai is a historical fiction that takes place in 7th century and had great potential . Dharani Rajendran in his debut did a great job in his writing , we can easily notice that they did a great research work , for example Einar clan's slang of Tamil was totally different and you can only understand the their dialogues with the help of subtitles . War sequences were well shot and well edited despite minimal graphics and minimal crowd . Major drawback of the movie was budget constraints , it draws a line between the audience and movie because most of the scenes fails to convey or register what's going on , just felt like bunch of scenes tied up together . Performance wise Cast did decent job . Cinematography and visuals were really good and eye pleasing on big screen . Music could've been better .
Overall , with good budget , better cast and better making this film could've been something spectacular in Indian cinema but yet good attempt with minimal resources . Watchable one .

Nice attempt by new director and producer for funding this movie. All new characters did their best acting. I felt this movie is far better than PS1 and 2 comparing to its fight scene and acting. If funding was not aa problem, director would have taken it to the next level for movie and in promotion. Well done team. Expecting part 2. People shud support this type of movie. Director has given his hard work and time in studying the history and olden tamil scripts. I don't know whether this movie based on true story or fiction but it felt as true story while watching. If 2part comes. I will support.

Wasted your efforts,The language used in this movie is Tamil but the Tamil used centuries back now who could understand the language except some Tamil scholars and people who know how to read English subtitles .
Are you really talking the movie for Tamil audiance or only for countable few people, even many people in the movie cast can't understand that ancient Tamil.
Even though I am a Tamilan iam eager to watch this movie i can't understand that movie.
I think you only directed the movie for awards.
This movie has very less reviews because no one could understand this movie without watching the subtitles .

This Movie deserves a great applause for their efforts and making. Appreciate the production team in believing this story. Very good attempt in history telling almost like watching real chera chola pandias and Einer clan. Their life, food habits, culture. Director did lot of research and presented in the movie. Felt like i am watching real history in front of me. Artist acting was real. Especially the Kodhi character and Ranatheera Pandia character, Never a lag moment and Understanding the budget limitations director and team had done an fabulous job. Great work by the art director and cinematographer, Must watch. Expecting next series in this line!!

This isn't a movie. The Life of Art.
The scenery is how it is, and neither the Tamil people nor Auravaram are painted.
This is not being overstated.
Extremely good original.
Tamil people should rejoice over this.
A tremendous epic that the public has celebrated.
Greetings to the crew and director.
A good effort was made by the producer and director to finance this film.
Every new character gave their finest performance.
Kothi the real hero of the movie also that's man apocalypto character it's amazing.
This movie's battle scene and performances are far superior than those in PS1 and PS2.
The filmmaker would have advanced it for the film and in promotion if money wasn't an issue. Good work, team. Waiting for part 2.
Congrats team #Yathisai.

Better than PS 1-2
Best history drama movie.
A fun amazing time while watching this movie Stop just watch it before deny.
Best thing about it is that they manage to make this epic movie with low budget As a matter of fact we can see that in sometimes that this movie is low but great And the acting is great good cast of choice.
Most of the time the actors were really good we can see that It's way better than PS.
A fun great movie one of the best best movie in 2023

First we need to appreciate the director for choosing this subject and stick to the authenticity as close as possible. That too with all new faces. It is so impressive. And it worked and gave lot of awe moments here and there in the movie....
Now come to negatives - Please lower your expectations. This is not a great entertainer and war sequences are so repetitive. The story is wafer thin and they tried the magic with the ancient touch. The camera work is great and locations are fine. But that also get repetitive more.
Lower your expectation, you might like it.

The movie really pulls us into the Pandias era of how ancient tamil people lived their way of life. Superb direction and cinematography.
Apocalypto of Tamil cinema.
Absolute Masterpiece.
It shows us how people did war in ancient times and the language and dialogues used where chefs kiss.
Director really pulled of a great movie with just 5 crore budget.
Imagine what he could do if he was given a grandiose budget.
Ponniyin selvan-2 is good but YAATHISAI was way way better.
Both are periodic dramas but Yaathisai was true to the ancient livings.
Eagerly waiting for the part-2 of YAATHISAI.

You say the film is about Pandyas and yet you show Spartan moves, citing the Greek mercenaries who were body guards in Tamil kingdoms of yore.
Yet, the same scenes from "300" film are stolen for some action scenes. Also, the walking in front of fields is similar.. Even otherwise, famously the Greeks did not fight for the Pandyas except as palace guards as their shields and bronze full-body armour would have been incredibly hot in Indian climate. (Even the "300" film had incorrectly shown Spartan warriors to be naked, without armors. Why 'ee adicchan copy'?)
Other comments talk about scenes lifted from Viking and Apocalypto too.. Also, the "hakka dance" of New Zealand is appropriated. Is this called research work? The actors do not stick with the timeline, and many errors can be forgiven as this is a debut film
If you make a part 2, at least show Tamil culture. Where is the famous "Bodhisena" who sailed to Japan and invented a writing system there similar to Tamil? He lived in the time of Ranadheeran. (Watch "Odd Campus" channel's video on YouTube for info on him)
Lastly, Tamils never practiced the "impalement" punishment on civilians like shown.. (kaluvetru) Depicting raw scenes just for the sake of authenticity, is inauthentic in such cases. Overall, a great attempt and with higher budget, possibly can pull a miracle.

Overall film making is very good & particularly Camera and music is excellent.
Little difficult to understand Yeinargal language otherwise all is good...
Congratulations to Rajendran 👍 for giving a good movie, you have enough capability and talent to do Mr. Kamalahasan's " Marudhanayagam" movie
Try with big producers, 30% film is over, try to convince Mr. Kamal , we are waiting for that movie to see for many years.
I want to wish you over phone, if possible kindly provide your number, so that I will say my wishes heartedly.
Dear Producer..Great , this is a really Wonderful movie, what u have given to Tamil people, this film will give lot of confidence for Young actors
Unnecessarily People's are wasting thier money to going theatres for Top heroes movies, where thier producers are making money without any stories and logics, Hats off.

Yaathisai was an organic and raw tale filled with passion. We greatly appreciated the themes raised in this story; obviously the technical flaws, ok acting, and overall storyline impeded the quality of the movie
DELICIOUS
-The crew did a fantastic job to plunge us into the 7th century by exposing us to the intense religious rituals, the food that people ate, the little clothing they wore, and most importantly people's mindsets
-The innovation centered on a man from a tiny clan seeking to challenge the status quo. Kothi's main objective wasn't about winning per se, but in his own words, he said "Victory or defeat it doesn't matter, it's the seed of hope"
BLAND
-The film opened up to an unattractive dubbing with Kothi's old commander's voice that was dubbed by a young man😔
-It made sense that the male characters were showing skin (when it came to what they were wearing below the waist), but the fact that the camera was constantly zooming on their buttocks became distractinnng.
-General appearance was affected by poor CGI effects, some backgrounds didn't even blend with the characters, and there were some b-rolls you could tell were borrowed from documentaries
-Apart from Seyon, no actors really stood out, it would have made a big difference if Shakthi Mithran playing the Pandiyan prince released an intimidating aura but he appeared so casual
We couldn't really understand the importance of the Cheras slaves in the Arabian boat or the temple dancers. Had they been omitted from the script, it wouldn't have made a difference.

This movie is in a league of its own. Despite the Obvious low budget, this movie delivers on an epic scale with fantastic acting, cinematography, and a very strong storyline. The makers have fantastically managed whatever budget was available to them. The combat scenes are so well executed and keeps us glued.
The pace of the movie is engaging from the start, with demonstrations of lifestyle beautifully woven into the narrative. There is a huge amount of violence but it doesn't make you uncomfortable.
Really in awe of the conviction of the makers in bringing out this film. Hopefully they will get better budgets for the next part.

I am giving 10 stars for the attempt they made. The effort they put on this movie and to encourage others to follow.
My original rating will be 6 out of 10. The cinematography is very appreciable. Set design, art work, makeup, costume design were as good a research materials. The war scenes were made as close as possible. The fight between Ranatheeran and Kothi is well done. Both actors gave their best.
Now what lags is the story, screen play and character development. The Ra Ra song in Chandramuki was a pleasant surprise, the choreography and Johthika's performance as the dancer was surprising element. But both the female devadasi characters were very bad on the dance sequence and her death had no impact since the character was not developed well.
We have seen many movies based on this clan raising backdrop, it is not new. Atleast the way story told could be thought through. I should be worried about the Kothi and his clan at the climax but it didn't worked out. It seems something is missing.
Again I give 10 for the attempt made.

Was expecting a good movie with an imaginary story linked to history. But strong Tamil medieval culture which would make us South Indians proud. Apart from extremely little exceptions, it is a copy from Vikings and native cultures of Americas and others. They even copied the Maori Haka and made it a Tamil dance. At a time of movies like Ponniyin Selvan and the Telugu movies going to better original content, this movie eats dust. Probably a hit among the and old people and cave dwelling younger generation if any. 8+ rating for this movie is joke. You waste your time if you watch this on TV, and you are definitely fooled if you watch this in theater.

What if you see a historical fiction on kings and wars, but the protagonist is not the Baahubali King but rather an unknown man who lost his clan and livelihood.
The movie is interesting that it did not take a stand on war (or) the protagonist but it just follows sequence of events around "losing and gaining back authority" and the lives and tribes lost for the same. The politics is brilliantly shown and also underlies the fate of small clans that supports these big kings and their authority also.
The production value is below par for such a good story and hope the makers rectify it if there is any sequel!!

It felt like watching a long animated story-telling video on YouTube
it doesn't feel like watching a feature film from any angle probably due to its low-budget nature, I think this one should've been released on YouTube for a wider reach.
Yet, there are so some good things about this film, it's a one-time watch for sure to respect the kind of efforts that have gone into it
it feels awkward that even the Tamil-speaking audience couldn't understand most parts of the movie dialogue and required subtitles to get through it, it shows either the natural way of evolution or a pathetic state of humans being ignorant of history.
Overall, if you're a person who likes watching historical dramas and is generally driven toward history then this is a must-watch otherwise it could be skipped.

"Yathisai" is a cinematic catastrophe that fails to deliver on every front. From its disjointed narrative to its lackluster character development, this film is a prime example of how not to make a movie. Clocking in at a runtime that feels far longer than it should, "Yathisai" squanders its potential with a series of haphazardly stitched-together scenes that offer little in the way of entertainment or engagement.
The film's troubles begin from the opening moments, where viewers are subjected to a meandering storyline that fails to establish any sense of direction or purpose. What follows is a tedious parade of visual effects that serve no discernible narrative function, serving only to pad out the runtime with empty spectacle.
Despite its South Indian setting, "Yathisai" manages to squander any opportunity for meaningful cultural exploration, opting instead for a superficial portrayal that feels more like a travelogue than a thoughtful examination of the region's rich history and traditions.
The film's characters fare no better, existing as little more than cardboard cutouts devoid of depth or complexity. With no meaningful dialogue to speak of, it's impossible to become invested in their journey or motivations, leaving viewers to wonder why they should care about the events unfolding on screen.
Perhaps the most egregious sin committed by "Yathisai" is its abysmally choreographed fight sequences, which do little to inspire excitement or tension. Instead, they serve as yet another reminder of the film's complete lack of artistic merit.
In conclusion, "Yathisai" is a film best avoided at all costs. With its nonsensical plot, uninspired visuals, and shallow characters, it offers little in the way of entertainment and even less in terms of substance. Save yourself the agony of sitting through this cinematic trainwreck and seek out something worthier of your time and attention.

Not a good movie, with no good person in the movie. I stopped watching when Kothi arranged a ritual murder in front of a whole gathering. At this point, there was no good soul in the movie left to root for. I kept hoping that after the buffalo sacrifice, when it was the turn of the human to be murdered, Kothi would somehow intervene and ask the hired hand to stop and let him go but my last hopes were dashed for he kept watching and relished the murder licking his lips.
Today's people that proudly claim the Tamils were never "Hindus" which was an Aryan infusion, should also introspect if there was anything to be proud about in the old Tamil practices of demon worship (Kottravai).
