Emily Meade is a rising star most recently seen in HBO’s The Penguin. Here’s where else you can see Meade showing off her acting chops!
Born in New York City, Emily Meade is 35-years-old and if she looked familiar watching her on The Penguin, that’s because she has been part of other HBO favorites. This includes The Deuce, where Meade plays Lori Madison, and can also be seen as Aimee on The Leftovers season 1. Most recently, Meade appeared in Law & Order. Fans may also recognize her from Boardwalk Empire or Dead Ringers. More on the list below.
In the DC Comics series, The Penguin, Emily Meade takes on a small, yet significant, role as a young Francis. As you already know if you’re a fan of the HBO crime drama, Francis Cobb (portrayed by Deirdre O’Connell) is Oswald Cobb’s (Colin Farrell) mother. To say...

Deadline reports that Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead) has joined Lanterns in what will be a major recurring role. In my opinion, Dillahunt can do anything. The man is so good. He will be a welcome addition to the Green Lantern series.
It’s said that Dillahunt will play William Macon, a modern cowboy who is described as “a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated facade.” As far as I know, this doesn’t sound like anyone from the comics. Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) is set to star in Lanterns as Hal Jordan alongside Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) as John Stewart. Kelly MacDonald (Boardwalk Empire) also recently boarded the series as Sheriff Kerry, a “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town.“

By Green Lantern’s light, no evil shall escape Kelly Macdonald’s sight as she joins DC’s Lanterns series. Known for her starring role as Margaret Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, Carla Jean Moss in No Country for Old Men, and the voice of Merida in Disney’s Brave, Macdonald joins the series to play Sheriff Kerry, a “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town.” Hardened by a complicated past, Sheriff Kerry answers the call when her community’s secrets start bubbling to the surface. While not confirmed, Sheriff Kerry may be a love interest for Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan.

You just finished The Last Night at Tremore Beach, the latest mind-boggling offering from Oriol Paulo, and now you don’t know what to do with life. Well, the only way to fill the void is to start something similar, and that’s why you’re here. So in this article, I am going to suggest certain movies and shows that you might consider watching if you enjoyed Oriol Paulo’s Netflix show. I hope all of you find something here.
Caddo Lake (2024)
Let us start with something from the very recent past. I could have just suggested Dark instead, but assuming many of you have already seen that show, I urge you to give Caddo Lake a try. Yes, the latest M. Night Shyamalan-produced horror-thriller takes a whole lot of ideas from the iconic Netflix series, but the good thing about the movie is that it also implements the ideas really well.

Robert De Niro sees some of Donald Trump’s rhetoric in his classic political satire “Wag the Dog.”
The actor and filmmaker said during the opening panel for the inaugural Tribeca Festival Lisboa, as moderated by the CEO of Grupo Impresa Francisco Pedro Balsemão, that the 1997 film has an eerie relation to former president Trump.
De Niro starred as a spin doctor who masterminds a hoax along with a Hollywood producer (Dustin Hoffman) to stage a fictional war in Albania as an effort to draw attention away from a presidential sex scandal. William H. Macy, Denis Leary, Willie Nelson, Craig T. Nelson, and the late Anne Heche also appeared in the film, which was shot at the White House under the Clinton administration.

What Do We Know About the upcoming Dcu original series Lanterns? More thank you may think. The Max original series will be the first live-action project on television from James Gunn’s rebooted DC cinematic universe. With casting announcements, rumors, and more, we know a lot of what is to come. So, let’s jump in and discuss Lanterns.
We will see multiple Green Lanterns.
While we met several members of the Green Lantern Corps in the Ryan Reynolds-led feature film, this new series is intentionally plural, as we will meet more than just Hal Jordan. According to James Gunn, Lanterns will center on Jon Stewart, who briefly appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in a non-speaking role. We also know that James Gunn’s longtime friend and collaborator Nathan Fillion is portraying Lanterns hero Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman movie and will potentially appear.

‘Falling Stars’ Review: ‘Twister’ Meets ‘The Leftovers’ in This Singularly Striking Witch Apocalypse
Too many movies waste time convincing their own characters that the supernatural is real. But in XYZ Films’ striking horror gem “Falling Stars,” the people of San Bernardino County already know that witches exist. They’ve spent years coping with their neighbors’ instantaneous abductions, as spelled out in a cold open that shows a young woman running along a winding road. One moment, she’s bouncing to the beat of her footsteps, enjoying the desert air, and surveying the sprawling landscape; the next, she’s just gone.
That scene and many others in this haunting poem of a film are shot partly overhead. Although “Watch the skies!” is advice typically reserved for alien outings, that bird’s eye view proves essential to co-directors Gabriel Biencyzycki and Richard Karpala’s stirring reflection on community, survival, and the unforeseeable acts of God. Caught somewhere between 1996’s “Twister” and HBO’s “The Leftovers,...

There was a lot that went wrong with "Joker: Folie à Deux," the disastrous sequel of 2019's "Joker" that's set to make only a fraction of the first film's box office jackpot. But overshadowed by the movie's sluggish pacing and depressing subject matter is another minor disappointment: the lack of Justin Theroux. He's a great actor who helped make masterpieces like "The Leftovers" and "Mulholland Drive" shine, and he appeared briefly in "Joker" as the actor Ethan Chase, who Arthur watches on the TV as he appears on Murray Franklin's talk-show.
Is Theroux the key ingredient to making sure a "Joker" movie reaches a billion dollars at the box office? Probably not, but a little sprinkling of Theroux always helps. For "Folie à Deux," Director Todd Phillips intended to give Theroux another cameo, this time in a trailer for the in-universe movie made about the Joker's actions in the first film.

While the Best Supporting Actress Oscar is often awarded to an ingenue, like the 2022 winner Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”), it can also be a way to reward a more seasoned performer. In 2024, Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Leftovers”) won on her first nomination A year earlier Jamie Lee Curtis had reaped her first Oscar bid at age 64 and prevailed for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” In 2021 Youn Yuh-jung, who is renowned in her native South Korea, won at age 73 for her first English film, “Minari.” And in 2020, the academy honored past nominee Laura Dern who finally took home an Oscar for her scene-stealing performance in “Marriage Story.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Supporting Actress.)
While Dern was clearly a featured player in her picture, two of her rival nominees, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie, could easily have submitted themselves in lead for their roles in “Little Women” and “Bombshell” respectively.

We first heard that a live-action She-Ra series was in development at Amazon back in 2021, and while updates have been pretty much non-existent since, it seems the project is finally starting to take shape.
According to Variety, Heidi Schreck has come aboard the project as writer and executive producer. Robin Sweet will also executive produce, along with DreamWorks Animation.
Schreck has previously worked on the likes of Billions and Nurse Jackie at Showtime, as well as Dispatches from Elsewhere at AMC, and the Amazon series I Love Dick. She is arguably is best known for writing and starring in the critically-acclaimed play, What the Constitution Means to Me.
Nicole Kassell is set to direct and executive produce the pilot episode. The filmmaker has previously helmed episodes of HBO's Watchmen, Westworld, The Leftovers, The Americans, and Castle Rock, so this show is in good hands.

James Hawes, who’s directed episodes for TV series like “Slow Horses,” “Black Mirror” and “Snowpiercer,” is set to direct the first two episodes of the drama series based on the DC comic, “Green Lantern.”
“Lanterns,” which was given a straight-to-series order in June, follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan as the two intergalactic cops are drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery to investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Kyle Chandler, who is best known for his Emmy-winning signature role on “Friday Night Lights,” will star as Hal Jordan. The search for Stewart has also been narrowed down, with “Rebel Ridge” star Aaron Pierre and “The Piano Lesson” actor Stephan James in the running and screen testing, per an insider with knowledge of the project.

HBO has always been known for its bold television shows. From the likes of The Sopranos to new endeavors like The Leftovers, the network has been a place for daring TV to live. In the 2010s, it seemed like the network was pushing the boundaries even more, specifically with how it showcased sex onscreen. At the dawn of the decade, Game of Thrones burst onto the scene with blood, guts, and boobs. Then came the likes of Succession and Euphoria, in which the sex scenes haven’t been particularly fun to watch. Existing between the cusp of those two is Industry, HBO’s new horny darling. Industry, which focuses on a group of young graduates competing for jobs at the prestigious London investment bank Pierpoint and Co, is HBO’s latest effort to push the limits of what can be shown on television. The main trio in the series — consisting...

Earlier this week, Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights entered negotiations to star as Hal Jordan in the HBO series Lanterns, inspired by DC Comics’ Green Lantern characters. Now Deadline reports that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Stephan James (Homecoming) have emerged as the top choices to play Jordan’s fellow Green Lantern John Stewart. Snowfall‘s Damson Idris was apparently in the mix at one point as well, but it looks like the conversation has come down to Pierre or James. Deadline’s sources caution that no offers have made to either one of them… yet.

Margaret Qualley has landed a part in the new “Happy Gilmore” sequel coming to Netflix. Qualley, known for roles in “The Leftovers” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” is excited to join the cast of the upcoming comedy. She has been a long-time fan of the original 1996 movie starring Adam Sandler.
Qualley reached out to her agents right away when she heard “Happy Gilmore 2” was in development. She wanted any role, no matter how small, to be part of the project. Her determination paid off when her husband, musician Jack Antonoff, fibbed to Sandler about her golf skills. Antonoff responded to Sandler that Qualley was “actually good” at golf when asked. However, Qualley admits this wasn’t true. “I can’t golf. I’m terrible at it,” she told talk show host Jimmy Fallon.
Despite her lack of experience, Qualley has taken golf lessons to prepare for her role.

Having premiering on September 22, 2004, “Lost” ended its run on May 23, 2010. “Lost” was often imitated, but the industry’s move away from commercially-driven network oversight and toward creatively-autonomous shorter seasons makes it unlikely that there will be such an epic again, especially with its inception being a last-ditch risk by executives who being pushed out the door. 121 episodes aired on ABC; tour through our 20th anniversary photo gallery of the 25 greatest that still hold up decades later.
Co-creator and co-showrunner Damon Lindelof went on to make two of the most acclaimed and inventive shows of the next decade, with “The Leftovers” (28 episodes across three seasons) and “Watchmen” (a single season of nine episodes). Co-showrunner Carlton Cuse spawned a media empire as a prolific producer of successful shows like “Bates Motel” and “Jack Ryan.” Co-creator J.J. There’s no question Carrie Coon broke out with HBO series “The Leftovers.” Landing that role was a big deal for the actress. “I had little on-camera work up to that point,” she told IndieWire over Zoom. “I had done some commercial work in Chicago. I had done one guest star on ‘The Playboy Club,’ with Laura Benanti. I didn’t have that much on-camera experience.”
But a Tony nomination for her performance as Honey in Steppenwolf’s 2012 production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” opened doors to meetings with casting directors — and her husband Tracy Letts. Ellen Lewis had Coon in for an audition. “I met with Damon [Lindelof],” said Coon. “I shot the pilot, which was only one speech, and then I went off and did ‘Gone Girl,’ which I also booked off a tape in my living room. I went through David Fincher boot camp. [‘The Leftovers’] was my first series regular job.

In March 2022, Craig Zobel returned home from seeing Matt Reeves’ The Batman during its opening weekend, and he immediately emailed the filmmaker to express his admiration for the superhero crime drama. Mind you, the Emmy-nominated director behind 2021’s Mare of Easttown and 2020’s controversial horror satire The Hunt didn’t know Reeves in the slightest, but this type of gesture is fairly common in the entertainment industry. (Margot Robbie, who starred in Zobel’s Z for Zachariah, initiated her casting in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by writing her own fan letter to Quentin Tarantino.)
So when it came time to hire directors for Reeves and showrunner Lauren LeFranc’s The Batman spinoff series, The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, Zobel likes to think that Reeves potentially took note of that email before blessing his hiring as director and executive producer.
“I happened to have his email.

All episodes of Twilight of the Gods are now streaming on Netflix, and the review embargo for Zack Snyder's adult animated Norse mythology series lifted around the same time the show premiered.
This isn't always a great sign, but the first wave of reviews have been mostly very positive.
Snyder's work has rarely gone over well with critics, but his last Netflix collaboration - the Rebel Moon movies - really came in for a drubbing. So far, Twilight of the Gods has fared a lot better.
Though there are some negative verdicts, the majority of write-ups praise the animation style, world-building, voice-acting and bloody action - although it sounds like Snyder may have overindulged in the graphic violence and sex a little too much for some tastes.
Have a read through the reviews below, and we'll be sure to update once we have a Rotten Tomatoes score.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is bringing some beloved characters back to fans, but the sequel is also introducing a few fresh faces — relatively speaking, considering they might be dead.
Once again directed by Tim Burton, the sequel takes place 30 years after the original, bringing the Deetz family back together for Charles’ death. At this point, Lydia (Winona Ryder) is fully grown with a daughter of her own, who discovers the mysterious remnants of Beetlejuice left in the attic.
We won’t spoil anything here, but we will give you a rundown of who’s who in the “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” cast and the characters they’re playing, old and new.

Cinema has hundreds of years of history, so it’s only natural that generation after generation, certain “blind spots” emerge in different ways. Those who grew up with the classics of their time are often shocked when people decades younger have never seen a particular film or even any movie by an influential filmmaker. It’s a cinephile cycle that will endure forever – after all, if we dive too deeply into the past as if we were living it in real-time, how can we enjoy what the present has to offer? All of this to say that I watched Beetlejuice (1988) for the first time this past weekend in preparation for its sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, once again directed by Tim Burton.

It's been more than three decades in the making, but director Tim Burton is finally back with a sequel to his 1988 classic "Beetlejuice." Thankfully, it's not in the form of "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian" or one of the other many versions that didn't actually get made over the years. Instead, Burton has reunited with Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara for the aptly titled "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," which figures to be one of the biggest movies of the fall movie season. But just how big is it? Does the pandemonium continue even after the credits start rolling?
Burton isn't exactly known for franchises, to say the least. This is actually the first time he's directed a sequel to one of his own movies since 1992's "Batman Returns." So it's not like Burton is in the business of setting up things that will pay off down the road. Still, we must ask:...

This 2024 fantasy comedy horror film, a sequel to the original Beetlejuice, is penned by the writing team of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on a story they co-wrote with Seth Grahame-Smith.
The film brings back beloved characters, with Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara all reprising their roles from the first movie. New faces, including Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe, add fresh energy to this much-anticipated sequel. The film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and will be released nationwide imminently.
Years after her first encounter with the mischievous spirit, Lydia Deetz (Ryder) finds herself reluctantly drawn back into the chaotic world of the afterlife. This time, she is forced to join forces with the irreverent demon Betelgeuse (Keaton) once more.

Andy Muschietti's mega-blockbuster adaptation of "It" kicked off a new boom of Stephen King adaptations when it hit theaters in 2017, but if we were in a boom, is it safe to say we've now hit a bust? There are still tons of new King adaptations coming (I'm excited to see Osgood Perkins' take on "The Monkey" and Bryan Fuller's horned-up "Christine" update), but the massive hits have slowed down (remember "Firestarter?"), and one major adaptation, Warner Bros' "'Salem's Lot," is only now coming out after years of sitting on the shelf.
The works of Stephen King will always continue to be rich and entertaining, whether they're dominating the pop cultural zeitgeist or not. But if one title exemplifies the fickleness of the recent King adaptation boom, it's "Castle Rock," a wonderfully complicated, delightfully mysterious King-adjacent series that unceremoniously died on the vine at Hulu despite delivering two great seasons of television.

Just in time for Judgment Day, Netflix has a new installment in the “Terminator” franchise for fans of the iconic, long-running sci-fi action franchise. This time, however, you won’t see any familiar faces — the series is animated. However, you might recognize some of the voices, so we’ve put together a handy guide to the “Terminator Zero” cast.
You won’t see Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese or Arnold’s T-800 in this story — it introduces a new timeline and all new characters to go with it. Set in 1997, Japan, “Terminator Zero” focuses on a developer named Malcolm Lee, who is hard at work on another AI system to compete with Skynet and save the human race. Naturally, a Terminator unit is sent back in time to target him and his three children, while a soldier from the future is sent back with a mission of her own.

With summer nearly over, the fall movie season is almost upon us. It's certainly early but for the time being, things are looking good. September used to be a bit of a dumping ground month for studios, with that post-summer hangover setting in badly. In recent years though, things have changed. It's now become fertile ground for the right movie to break out in a big way. It very much seems like Warner Bros. and director Tim Burton have just such a movie in "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." Well over three decades after the original "Beetlejuice" hit theaters, the long-awaited sequel is poised to become a breakout smash hit.
"Beetlejuice 2" is currently looking at an opening in the $81 to $94 million range when it hits theaters next weekend, per Box Office Theory. Warner Bros., for what it's worth, is being a little more conservative, with the studio estimating a debut in the $65 to $75 million range,...

Beetlejuice is back! Oscar-nominated, singular creative visionary Tim Burton and Oscar nominee and star Michael Keaton reunite for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to Burton’s award winning Beetlejuice.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was the opening film at this year’s Venice Film Festival and the sequel had a four minute standing ovation.
“There are so few opportunities to be in something that you can say is 100% original and unique,” said Keaton, who joked about his character’s evolution.
“I think my character has matured,” Keaton said. “As suave and sensitive as he was in the first, I think he’s even more so in this one.”
The early reviews are raving about the movie.
Deadline writes: “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is not clunky. Yes, there are plenty of animation joins that haven’t been smoothed over by CGI. Some of the props look like tat Burton bought in a flea market. But it also has a proper plot,...
