Tom Michell’s feelgood memoir could have been a winning buddy movie with Coogan’s colleague – if it wasn’t for the titular bird always muscling its way in looking baffled
Films set in Latin America during periods of political and social unrest – the early work of Pablo Larraín, say – have traditionally been low on Dead Poets Society-style inspirational uplift. Or, for that matter, penguins. Now the Steve Coogan Heartwarming True Story Machine – the same one which produced Philomena and The Lost King – seeks to rectify the oversight, and not a moment too soon.
This adaptation of Tom Michell’s cosy memoir The Penguin Lessons, scripted by Coogan’s semi-regular collaborator Jeff Pope and directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty), begins in Buenos Aires in 1976, just as Isabel Perón is being ousted in a military coup. Tom, played by Coogan, pitches up with his wardrobe of...

Marvel Studios has a wide range of projects in the works, including both rumored and confirmed ones. Some are fresh concepts, while others have been stuck in development for a long time—even before the SAG-AFTRA strike brought the industry to a standstill.
With fans eagerly anticipating the X-Men live-action reboot, new ‘Avengers’ films, and ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ it’s easy to overlook the projects that have languished for years without a clear release date or significant updates.
Two of Marvel’s most problematic projects right now are the ‘Blade’ reboot, featuring Mahershala Ali in the title role, and ‘Armor Wars,’ a project that has shifted from a movie to a series and back to a movie over more than a decade of development.
Originally, ‘Armor Wars’ was conceived as a film based on the comic storyline of the same name, meant to follow ‘Secret Invasion’ (released last year) and...

Marvel Studios has plenty of both rumored and confirmed projects in development. Some of them are new ideas and some have been unfortunately in development for a long time, even before the SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed the whole industry.
While fans are looking forward to the X-Men live-action reboot, ‘Avengers’ movies, and ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ it’s easy to forget that some projects have been in development for years without a clear release date or updates.
Two of the most troubled projects currently are ‘Blade’ reboot staring Mahershala Ali in the titular role, and ‘Armor Wars,’ a movie-turned-show-turned-movie that’s been in development for more than a decade.
‘Armor Wars’ was envisioned as a film based on the comic storyline of the same name. It was intended to follow ‘Secret Invasion’ (which came out last year) and ‘Ironheart’ (Set to be released in 2025). Back in 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed that a...

Exclusive: To the delight of Democrats, and outrage of many Republicans, former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger addressed the Democratic National Convention on its final night last month, sharing his observations about the party he served for 12 years in Congress.
“The Republican Party is no longer conservative,” he said. “It has switched its allegiance from the principles that gave it purpose to a man whose only purpose is himself.”
Any guesses who he was referring to? If there’s any doubt, it will be dispelled in the documentary The Last Republican, set to make its world premiere on Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival. Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) directed the film, an acquisition title at TIFF. We have your first look at the film in the exclusive clip below.

Life is a cyclical thing, sometimes. Roughly this time last year, I was immersing myself in the unique adventures of the summer 2023 lineup. Namely, Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon and The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today . In case it isn’t apparent from their titles, this pair of anime starred a dungeon-exploring vending machine and a fastidious housekeeping cat, respectively — two descriptors that I would otherwise never imagine putting into writing. They were such highlights for me, not the least of which because they were so different from what I could have ever anticipated. How could summer 2024 throw me for a loop, when that bar is now set so incredibly high? I’ve seen and heard it all by now, right?! …Wrong. Deer anime. Your argument is invalid, Anthony. Wozzek is a man on the brink of pretty much everything: life, death, human existence, sanity and grief, to name but a few. For several years, Wozzek has been living in a secluded and rural farm house, having relocated there with his wife Nellie (Christina Bennett Lind) after an apocalyptic global disaster, an alien invasion of sorts, known as the ‘calamity’ took place. However, since escaping the apocalypse, Nellie has died in unknown circumstances. This leaves Wozzek lonely and isolated. One of his only forms of company is his taped alter ego, a sobering and rational presence that calms him when he becomes too distraught.
However, he isn’t completely alone; he has managed to construct a machine that can bring Nellie back to life, for certain periods of time. His hope that he can bring her back to life permanently and live with her in matrimony once again. His...

Fortnite has continued delivering consistent outflow of quality content for the past few years. The gaming community has fell in love with the game’s competitive and ambitious nature, especially the collaborations that the game brings by partnering with other major franchises.
The community has a few harsh words about the previous season and Epic Games has heard enough to make some tough choices for Chapter 5 Season 4. The present season started with a bang; however, it was inevitable for certain items to be nerfed significantly and fans are unhappy.
The Fortnite Community’s Fears Has Been Realized and Players Are Already Upset
Epic Games is doing everything to bounce back after the previous season was not well-received by the players and plans on winning them back by giving them what they have longed for. Chile’s most prominent film event, the Santiago Int’l Film Festival (Sanfic) celebrates its 20th edition with 10 Chilean titles in competition, chosen from a record 40 submissions this year.
“We usually receive an annual average of 25 entries of which we select eight to nine titles,” said festival director Carlos Nuñez who co-founded the festival with Gabriela Sandoval who runs the industry section.
He attributes the proliferation of films this year, in part, to the urge of young, upcoming filmmakers to make their mark in the world of cinema. “Most of the directors in our selection are young and only making their first or second films,” Nuñez pointed out, adding that most of the titles are debut features. This year’s crop has only one female director but many of the producers behind them are predominantly women, he noted.

Their montage reaches current times, where self-curation saturates social networks, demanding perfection and notoriety. Influencers showcase enviable personas, while doubtful authenticity plagues some’reality’ shared. Have we lost sight of inner truth,...

Having dabbled in YA fantasy (The School For Good And Evil) and Wham!-based Christmas movies (Last Christmas) in recent years, director Paul Feig is getting back into his Spy and The Heat action-comedy groove with high concept Prime Video movie Jackpot! A sort of The Purge-meets-Euromillions-rollover caper set in very-near-future Los Angeles, this one sees Awkwafina's struggling actor Katie reluctantly teaming up with John Cena's amateur lotto heavy Noel when she unwittingly hits the jackpot, only to learn that California state rules allow anybody to kill the lottery winner before sundown without consequence. If it sounds a bit zany, then it looks even zanier. Check out the wackadoodle trailer below;
See? Crackers! We don't know if it's the 'Holding Out For A Hero' needledrop, John Cena's whip cracking skills, or the Peacemaker star and Awkwafina's classic opposite-sides-of-the-tracks mismatched buddy bants that's doing it for us, but from...

It looks like Timothy Olyphant shall be the chosen one.
The Hitman star is set to voice the terse, redoubtable Terminator – the epic character once portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator franchise – in the forthcoming anime series, Terminator Zero.

While replacing the legendary 76-year-old star is no short of a mammoth feat, fans seem to be excited about Olyphant’s casting as the voice actor for the cyborg assassin. At least half of the pressure must be alleviated for him after having secured the fandom’s support, and as for the other half, we’ll soon find out.

European TV distributors are weighing up the impact of the global streaming reset — and a key challenge is explaining the value of content to producers and global streamers.
In an opening Meet the Distributors session featuring French firms Newen Studios, Studiocanal, Mediawan Rights and Oble, Austria’s Orf Enterprises and Germany’s Bavaria Media here at Seriencamp in Cologne, the topic of how content is priced internationally a key theme.
Charles Toubout, Head of Content at Mediawan Rights, said he had been approached about a European project whose first season was financed through an all-rights deal with a global streamer. Newen’s investment was sought to fill gaps in the budget and get a second season into production, with the streamer keen to keep the show in some territories, but also unwilling to fully finance it. “It is more an adjustment of value,” he said.

Ostensibly a big-screen reboot of the 1980s television series of the same name, “The Fall Guy” is actually director and former stunt performer David Leitch’s love letter to both his wife, producer Kelly McCormick, and the undersung art of stunt work — only not always in that order.
Working closely with screenwriter and executive producer Drew Pearce, who previously scripted his “Fast and the Furious” spinoff “Hobbs & Shaw,” Leitch creates a clearinghouse of gobsmacking stunts (some truly record-breaking) while chronicling the tumultuous relationship between veteran stunt man Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) and first-time director Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). It’s quick-witted (and quick-footed) fun that bridges multiple generations of Hollywood moviemaking, melding together rom-coms and bombastic action into one blockbuster package.
Since making his screenwriting debut on Shane Black’s “Iron Man 3,” Pearce has developed an aptitude for conceiving stories that maintain a singular yet cohesive tonal balance.

Marvel Studios has several projects in the making bound to be released over the course of the next few years. Despite Iger’s recent comments that the studio should focus on quality over quantity and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ being the only movie to release in 2024, they see no signs of stopping.
Now that the strike has cleared up, there are some projects that have been stuck in development hell for quite some time now, and some projects that need to be rushed in order for the MCU timeline to make sense without too many edits. It’s time for these projects to move on with the production.
One of these projects notable to be in development for years at this point is certainly Don Cheadle’s ‘Armor Wars.’ ‘Armor Wars’ was imagined to be a movie based on the comic storyline of the same name, and it was supposed to...

Florence + The Machine have announced a special performance of their debut album, Lungs, in celebration of its 15th anniversary. Entitled “Symphony of Lungs,” the concert is set to go down on September 11th at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms classical music festival. It will be aired live on BBC Radio 3.
The concert will see Florence Welch perform the album in full with backing from Jules Buckley and his Orchestra. In addition to its live airing, the performance will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC Two, and BBC iPlayer.
“This album was such a patchwork of a period of time of my messy teenage years and early twenties,” Welch said of the upcoming anniversary show in a press release. “I had no idea what I was doing or where it would go, and a lot of the songs are simply an exhalation of joy.

After the release of Bendy and the Dark Revival back in 2022, fans of Joey Draw Studios’ series are understandably hungry for more. As luck would have it, Joey Draw Studios has enlisted the help of developer Gent Corporation (a not-so-subtle nod to the contracting firm of the same name in the Bendy series) with the release of a brand new entry on Steam with Bendy: Secrets of the Machine. Best of all, it’s free!
Taking a route of mystery this time, there’s little in the way of plot for Secrets of the Machine. The summary on Steam states that you are Subject #131389145, and you’re exploring a series of rooms, and solving the puzzles within. Those puzzles involve you throwing cans at various objects, which in turn unlock new areas and reveal tidbits of lore.
Really, that lore dump appears to be the main purpose of Bendy: Secrets of the Machine.

Back in 2008 the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially began with Iron Man. The film starred an actor who, at the time, was going through uncertain times in his career. In fact he was paid only $500,000 for his role in the film while his co-star Terrance Howard was paid $4.5 million for his role due to recently being nominated for an academy award.
After the film’s positive reception upon its release, Marvel started making other films like The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America, leading up to the first Avengers film in 2012. In just four short years, Downy Jr.’s career turned around, and he became a household name.
The actor would continue to portray the super genius hero in a third solo Iron Man film and appear as a secondary character in both Captain America and Spider-Man movies as well as three more Avengers films. His last official...
