Some reviewers didn't buy it, but I thought Rhiannon Fish and Tyler Hynes had plenty of chemistry as Beth and Jake. I was pleasantly surprised by all their easy breezy romantic moments together, and by all the scenes with actual kissing and intimacy in the MIDDLE of the movie, instead of saving the first Big Kiss for the very end (although there was an early "almost kiss"- one of my least favorite tropes). Their dates seemed very real and natural and I would've preferred a movie that was focused on just that without any serious conflict between them (but Hallmark writers seem locked into the meet, like, fight, reunite formula)
Hynes seemed comfortable with a camera and the Flower Girl photo of Beth really was quite beautiful. Unfortunately, the movie's depiction of Beth's instant fame was wildly unrealistic. The scene with a dozen people crowding her and trying to take photos and selfies with her after a free "Los Angeles Culture" regional magazine just came out, was beyond ridiculous. As I write this, Taylor Swift was just seen coming out of a NYC restaurant after her breakup and she didn't get half as much crowding in the street. That said, social media can make formerly unknown individuals into short term sensations. As I write this, a head shot of a beautiful woman spotted at the Masters golf tournament just went viral, and she became known as the "Masters Girl". Of course, that was a nationally televised event, watched by millions (compared to a free local newspaper cover).
Also, the movie's representation of the modeling industry (which has its problems) was also wildly unrealistic. My daughter was an international model (which helped pay for the Berkeley college degree that she is about to receive). First, we did a LOT of research into the agencies that were interested in her. And we met their representatives in their offices, not in some stairway landing. And we carefully reviewed her contracts. We also made sure to get all the details of where she was going and for what before she went anywhere (like a Coca-Cola ad shot at Venice beach). Models are hired to promote products, as part of carefully planned marketing campaigns. But it was unclear what Beth's sleazy agent (a plot line that was just abandoned) had lined up for her. She certainly wouldn't have been given her own trailer. And she wouldn't be dressed up in some ugly awards show gown that made her look like Ursula from the Little Mermaid for whatever "shoot" she was hired to do. Heck, any agent who knew what they were doing, would have approached a florist or flower grower to hire her for some marketing campaign that played off of her "famous" photo. Plus, there's usually at least several weeks of lead time for photo shoots (and auditions). No one gets an agent (without an office) and a big production photo shoot in a couple of days.
There's more. Aunt Dody suffers a compound leg fracture and says she'll be laid up for a few weeks (hence Beth's visit to help out). And, sure enough, a few days later she's walking around in a walking boot. I suffered a compound leg fracture during a football game and I was in a cast for nearly 6 months. Aunt Dody was far too mobile. And the only help that I noticed was when Beth loaded up a couple of flowers from her Aunt's fancy She Shed and put them in a box to take to the Farmers Market to a guy who mentioned selling some flowers back to Aunt Dody (??). Aunt Dody didn't seem to have much of a business and didn't seem to get much help from Beth.
It was also very unclear what Beth was planning to do with her Environmental Sciences degree. My son obtained one of those from UCSB and now works for a solar power financing company. There's nothing wrong with her working on boats but, when I was a bartender at a local Harbor, I met a lot of fishermen who used to get up at four in the morning and lead very rugged and difficult lives. There were a few women who did that kind of work, but the ones I met could've played football in college. Beth as a fisherman? Seemed like quite a stretch.
And what sort of work does Beth expect Jake to do to support himself? He's a photojournalist. No one buys photo albums and paparazzi shots can pay well (It's not as though he was badgering the people that he was photographing). And what's so terrible about him taking a picture of her before he even met her? The worst part of his behavior was that he wasn't completely honest about what he did, but that's easily resolved with one honest conversation.
But the movie got a few things right. Beth was upset that her photo was used on the cover of a local magazine without her permission, but that magazine's rep gave her a surprisingly good explanation. Hallmark movies notoriously get the law completely wrong (I'm a lawyer) but they got it right here. In California, under Civil Code Section 3344, the Right of Publicity protects against uses of a person's likeness "for purposes of advertising or selling, or soliciting purchases of, products, merchandise, goods or services, without such person's prior consent." If her photo had been placed in an ad for flowers, she would have had a claim, but being put on the cover of a "news" paper is not actionable.
More importantly, for Hallmark movie addicts like me, I liked the romance. Hynes has an easy going charm that has made him a Hallmark superstar. Last year's Three Wise Men and a Baby was the most watched movie of the year and he's been in a lot of other Hallmark movies. For good reason. This was my second exposure to Rhiannon Fish as a lead (her parents must have really liked Fleetwood Mac). I liked her in A Splash of Love and her performance there and here reminded me a little bit of Hailee Steinfeld. But I can see why some may have been put off a bit by her somewhat childish mannerisms (I'd call them endearing).
The thing I liked best about the movie was how it depicted their time together. There were no competing boyfriends, girlfriends, fiancés, schemes, failing businesses, or festivals, and all their dates were really enjoyable to watch- a nice meet cute at the dog park, a couple of bike rides, walking the streets, stopping for ice cream, stargazing, talking, and sharing home-cooked meals. It was all very cozy and comforting. Unfortunately, the movie makers decided they needed to add a conflict for the leads to overcome, as usual, in the fourth quarter.
I would've preferred a nice breezy happy ending without the contrived conflict.
My favorite line:
"That's ancient water under a very distant bridge."

This movie is romantic in a way that is more than a relationship between the lead man and woman. It celebrates the beauty of life and the things around us. Many of these moves do that to some degree but this aspect really struck me in this movie.
I think Tyler Hynes is perfect for this move. He is quiet and thoughtful as Jake. Hynes and Rhiannon Fish have a nice chemistry with some banter between them, but quieter than in the movies where the leads are going hard at one another in the first third or half of the movie. The dialogue is representative of that and decent but not sparkling.
The story has a few borrowed elements from the formulaic, but it is mostly fresh.
I didn't think the bit between Beth and the agent made sense especially since the worldly and experienced Jake should have seen what was going on immediately or at least warned Beth beforehand.

Beth is a fisherwoman, one could say, who is going to LA to take care of her fractured aunt. Jake is a freelance photographer who happens to be in a assignment when he runs into a beautiful scenario and takes a soon-to-be famous picture. Meanwhile, he meets Beth, go out with her and is infatuated with her from the very first moment.
I don't know what's with Tyler Hynes lately, I'm fascinated by the bad boy energy and looking forward to every movie he is in. Both him and Rhiannon Fish play the kind of characters that both of them have before. Him the mysterious, laid back guy and her the next door type of girl. (I even believe there is a reference to one of her previous movies: orcas) But it works. I thought their chemistry was decent.
Things about the movie that were weird or didn't like: the lies, it dragged on for more time than it should have. I thought it was the worst aspect of the movie. The character of the agent was suspicious, hints were given about him but we never got to find out what was going on. And the pace of the movie was weird for me, maybe because it completely shifted halfway through it.
Overall, it was a good movie. I wouldn't mind watching more movies with them, whether it's together or separately.

And no, I am not just talking about Australia's Rhiannon Fish (or is that Canada's Rhiannon Fish?) who is at her radiant and effervescent best in this film, opposite Hallmark favourite, Tyler Hynes. Their chemistry is off the charts, right from their first scene together - one of the most outstanding casting decisions Hallmark has made in a long time - and Fish nails her role, delivering a bubbly performance as Beth, opposite Hynes' photographer Jake. Their banter is A-grade, too.
Maybe I wouldn't be giving this 7 stars had it not been for Tyler Hynes and Rhiannon Fish.
The scenes in and around British Columbia that stand in for Washington state (as BC so often does in these productions) add another layer of beauty to what is a well-shot film.
P. S. Multiple (heavy!) kisses before the final minutes of the movie? What is this, Hallmark from an alternate universe?

Tyler Hynes is Tyler Hynes 💙
but the actress... Talking like a baby👎 is less than appealing, and is apparently a theme in all her movies. Pass.
Tyler Hynes, probably His best look by far, hot, sexy, rugged, sweet.
But this movie was beneath his talent.
The opening was amazing.
The story line way too simple, especially from what we've come to expect from Tyler Hynes.
The elderly woman was quite good, her interaction with hynes was interesting to watch.
On the one hand this girl is accomplished on the water, but then is portrayed a helpless doe eyed starting actress, they tried to make a point of woman empowerment.. but it didnt work Usually I can watch Tyler's movies over snd over... This one does not fall in the category .l Go find a better Hynes movie to watch.

I have always liked Tyler, but was surprised that this character was so complex... so perfectly portrayed. For me, the in-depth picture was not in the girl's picture he (as a paparazzi type), took of her. Rather, it was the male motorcycle driving, self introspective photographer Tyler created for us. You know him by the end of the film: inside and out.
The film is well written, well filmed, and so very well acted and directed. I highly recommend this movie to all audiences.
And, for those Tyler fans, those who know him as not only an actor, but also in his roles as writer, producer, and director... you will not be surprised, but thankful. For, with this picture, we see Tyler at his best. Enjoy!

I love Tyler Hynes...I think he could have chemistry with cardboard, he is that great of an actor. I thought he and the lead actress made a very attractive couple. I loved the orchids and the outdoor market was beautiful. I thought the main character Beth said she and her father ran a fishing boat out of Gig Harbor (which is in Washington State), if so as a native Northwesterner I must say it is a shame that they didn't actually show any of Gig Harbor as it is a lovely and very green area. The other odd thing is the ruse to get Beth to LA is that her aunt Dody needs help because she is injured...and other than one dog walk and a couple of plant waterings, I did see Beth provide much help. Then she is busy flirting and dating a local photographer. There is a whole environmental activism story which didn't seem to fit with the rest of the story and seemed intentionally placed in order to appeal to a certain demographic. There were also just some odd hiccups with the plot in general.
But I did love Tyler Hynes...I also loved most of the supporting cast including Beth's dad played by Robert Wisden and Aunt Dody played by Samantha Ferris. I did have some mixed feelings about Rhiannon Fish...when she wasn't "baby talking" I enjoyed her, but the "baby talking" was really cringe worthy.
Worth seeing for Tyler Hynes and decent on the romance meter. I think romantics will like it.

Wow, what can I say? Rhiannon Fish and Tyler Hynes have great chemistry together, creating believable and relatable characters and bring the story to life! Rhiannon seems to be Hallmark's new IT girl and with each new movie, each new character she's quickly becoming a favorite, creating must see movies!
Unlike most movies with a repeatable theme, the story centers on a candid picture, taken anonymously that go viral, and the growing bond between two people who are both keeping something close to their hearts, and subsequently from each other. As trust builds and a bond is formed, in typical fashion a series of events and misunderstanding leads to another twist, ultimately setting up a feel good moment to end the story... for now. Tyler seems to get all the unforgettable roles lately, it's hard to miss with Tyler in the lead! It's nice to see more variety from Hallmark, less, kitschy and predictable, with a few twists to bring new characters to life. Who knows? Maybe the story has a chapter two?

The list of the no-no's:
1. No chemistry between leads
2. The all-natural 'hometown girl' looked anything but that.
3. Disproportionate injury timeline 4. Lack of substance in female lead character; all talk and no real action to show for it as she seems to have no sense of self 5. Unrealistic fame for her picture 6. Wardrobe for female lead was uninspiring, male lead was ok.
The yes'es: 1. The aunt was great - solid character and solid delivery, 2. The aunt and male lead had good chemistry, their scenes were good 3. Larger scenery included was beautiful 4. Orchids were a good choice for a topic they added alot of unique beauty.

Whenever Tyler Hynes is involved, I'm in, I really, really love his work and personality. This movie had not the greatest script, but Tyler and Rhiannon Fish did their best with incredible chemistry, humor, and I liked the instant genuine connection between the two. The aunt and the father were perfectly casted too, I liked their input very much. The movie was a lot quieter and slower in a good way, than we had seen both leads before. I've read a comment from someone, who thought, that Tyler Hynes didn't want to be in the movie, but I felt, that it was his way to play a somewhat disillusioned character, a photographer, who couldn't earn his living with his art and hated his own paparazzi work, but needed it nonetheless. Rhiannon is her bubbly, vivacious self, if you watch her interviews, she is just the same. And so I felt, that I get to see here a lot Tyler and Rhiannon, not only Jake and Beth. I already watched the movie 3 times, and believe me, it grows on you. Thank you, Hallmark, for the development of your movies from the boring formula to something fresh and genuine and for the support of interesting actors and their ideas!

8.0 stars.
The film opens with a fisherwoman named Beth as first mate on her dad's boat in the Pacific Northwest. They learn of her aunt being injured so Beth goes to Los Angeles to take care of her while she convalesces. While in the city she meets a photojournalist named Jake and they fall in love. She soon finds out he has been lying to her, and in the midst of her grief she leaves the city never to return. Jake is left hanging and wishing he could have saved this fragile relationship he so callously dismantled.
The story is different than any Hallmark I've ever seen. First of all, there are few movies that showcase a professional photographer of his caliber, and the fact he's a paparazzi is interesting and fresh. Her character is not very fascinating, but I think she is a very pretty actress so there's wiggle room. Fish does have some idiosyncratic mannerisms that might be disenchanting for some viewers, but I still find her alluring. I feel I'm strangely in the minority based on the multiple scathing reviews.
'A Picture of Her' is an entertaining film for two reasons, the first being that the synergy between Hynes and Fish is undeniable. When they kiss it's real, there's no faking that level of chemistry. I like that she initiates the affection most of the time leaving us to feel like he's a real gentleman in spite of the biker boy/bad boy image he manifests. Secondly, this film provides a solid romance and a very enticing story. Don't focus on the nonessentials, keep your eye on the vibrancy and mystique that Hynes and Fish exude on the screen.

This story was going so well! But unfortunately, the creators did not use the potential.
While the main character (Tyler Hynes) plays quite OK and you can actually feel that he is the photographer, his film partner (Rhiannon Fish) is childish and does not reflect the character at all. She plays a 17-year-old imprisoned in the body of an adult woman (her facial expressions and sweet voice are so irritating that I thought about muting her voice).
This story... this story could have turned out very differently. Unfortunately we have another Hallmark movie. Eh.
I'm really looking forward to a good romantic comedy. Anyone?

This film blew me away. Kudos go to Rhiannon Fish and Tyler Hynes, who were so in sync with each other, it was a beautiful thing to watch. And the director allowed room for quiet moments, like when Tyler was using the camera. And unlike other other movies utilizing a camera, Tyler looked like he knew how to use one correctly. In addition, the pacing and rhythm is different from other Hallmark movies, which is a welcome pleasant surprise. It felt like their story was real, and I was invited in to witness the special moments. I'll definitely watch this one again, and again. Make more movies like this, Hallmark!

Jake, a talented photographer, catches a glimpse of a beautiful girl, Beth, amid the flowers in a market, and takes a snapshot that captures the essence of her inner beauty and spontaneous joy. Accidentally, the portrait ends on the cover of a magazine and goes viral. He, then, meets her and befriends her, while she is dazed in a whirlwind of undesired publicity and trying to find out who was responsible for it.
The premise for this movie is quite unusual and could have been developed in various ways. Thankfully, this time the production has been guided by a gentle hand, with proper tones and many endearing moments. The entire cast offers a very solid performance and the lead actors shine. Rhiannon Fish convincingly portrays a wholesome and lively girl, whose natural curiosity is well tempered by strong principles and a level head. Her "cute" factor is outstanding, es ever. Once again, Tyler Hynes renders his somewhat conflicted character captivating, with the appropriate shades of emotions.
The result is more than a picture. It is a family friendly, graceful story, presented with honesty, warmth, and some beautiful photography.
Being aware that "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder", I can only state I, personally, enjoyed this movie.

As usual I am an easy grader on Hallmark movies since we don't need Academy Award quality - just solid stories and a nice enjoyable film. This movie was fine for a while, both the leads were good enough and Hynes is just too smooth (I should take notes on how to interact with the ladies).
Anyway, my issue with this film is that it wasn't exactly exciting throughout and really needed to "stick the landing" since pretty much everything for the first 95% of the movie was setup for the big finish. I mean this is Hallmark so you just need to not screw up the ending and everyone is happy. I'm not saying that the ending was horrible, it was just ehhhhhhh (I'm being kind). I spent 2 hours for that? Very disappointing.

I had really been looking forward to this movie. Tyler Hynes makes a great leading man, and Hallmark Channel had been promoting the movie for a long time. The main characters had no chemistry. It was painful to watch. Also, Beth was supposedly in town to help her injured aunt. It didn't seem like she was doing much helping. And the writer had to throw in political agenda with environmentalist comments. That was another turn-off. There was no need for that in the movie. Beth wasn't a believable character from the beginning of the movie. Tyler Hynes deserves better scripts than this, and his audience expects them as well.

This movie was awful, I was bored throughout. Silly story line, very silly actress (this was my first movie watching her) she constantly tugged at her sleeves, constantly pulling down her shirt when it was clearly a crop top, speaking like a little girl... I think she's very pretty but I didn't care for her acting. I also didn't care how Hallmark and the writers keep insisting on bringing up certain causes like the environment ie "her carbon footprint" gag me!!! It's also one of the reasons I watch GREAT AMERICAN FAMILY, it's a much more wholesome network. Even though I love to watch Tyler, he's handsome, sexy and I like his acting, I'm finding it very difficult to continue watching Hallmark and even though they have so many awesome actors, their story lines are so weak. I'm not saying I won't ever watch Hallmark again especially if some of my favorites are on like Kristopher Polaha, Andrew Walker, Brennan Elliot and Tyler (these are in no particular order) but I do wish Hallmark didn't feel the need to SHOVE certain "issues" down our throats. This movie was very disappointing!

Again some give it a 9? In depth characther haha seriously? Just a guy taking a picture and you just can't tell her? Seriously ?
Story is just very very weak, no real romance, no laughter, no nothing really .
Acting pretty bad I'm sorry. Why make a movie with this kind of script? Why not read it again make some good adjustments!?
Seriously what is here to like ? Sure she has a friendly nice look to her, but chatachter wise it's not much .
You like romance comedy feel good movies? What about Sleepless in Seattle ? Pretty woman? And compare those with this one? You would still give it a 9 ?
Not me , it's below average .
I would pass this one.

Betrayal, lies, loyalty, trust, tears - the whole 9 yards. I watched this on YouTube- not recommended. Drunken picture angles, lots of piano music muting out the dialogue.
I love Tyler Hynes - great actor, but how old were the scriptwriters ? 15 ? The story concept was good but seeing a grown woman in tears because she was "betrayed" over a photograph ? Oh please. He told lies - no he didn't, he just didn't tell her the story. But so what ? The aunt telling him - a grown man, off, was beyond laughable. It wasn't a big deal except in Hallmark World.
Hynes has some terrific films under his belt ( and he just looks better the older he gets) but because of the poor script, this isn't one of them. How the actors managed to keep a straight face is remarkable.
