The series was Ben Elton's attempt to write an old-fashioned mainstream comedy. It failed miserablely.
The series was cancelled by the BBC and by agreement with Ben Elton following a scathing critical reception. However, the BBC denied it was a ratings flop because over the course of a week it had 3.5 million to 4 million viewers.
Mina Anwar and David Haig had worked together almost two decades previous on another Ben Elton britcom The Thin Blue Line (1995).
