Comedian Ricky Gervais on Thursday announced “Ricky Gervais: Mortality”,” a tour he’ll head out on later this year, which will run through the end of 2025 and culminate in a new special for Netflix.
The special will be Gervais’ fourth for the streamer, on the heels of Armageddon, Humanity and SuperNature. Released last year, Armageddon was No. 1 on Netflix’s most-watched list for a period, earning him the inaugural Golden Globe recognizing stand-up comics. That special came on the heels of a record-breaking international tour, which saw him sell out 85 arena dates and set a Guinness world record at the Hollywood Bowl with the highest-grossing stand-up performance in history.
In a statement on his new tour, Gervais said, “We’re all gonna die. May as well have a laugh about it. Mortality looks at the absurdities of life. And death. Bring it on.”

I always like to give British comedy a go because, in amongst plenty of poor shows and films has been a whole lot of great stuff. British comedy often feels a little bit different from many other countries, so with A Family Affair and debut writer and director Warren Fischer, I was hoping for the new British comedy director to take the World by storm. The story goes like this:
“A cash-strapped hotel manager (Joe Wilkinson) is forced to stave off interest from wealthy buyers at a public auction whilst hosting his in-laws on their wedding anniversary.”
I was also glad to see Joe Wilkinson on the cast list, and he does indeed play one of the main roles as Edward. After previously enjoying his work on Him and Her, and Ricky Gervais’ Derek and After Life,...

Heading into Sunday’s Golden Globe ceremony, Ricky Gervais was not confident he would win the first-ever award for Best TV Stand-Up Comedy Performance. “I’m nominated for another Golden Globe tonight,” he wrote early Sunday about his “Armageddon” Netflix special. “Won’t win, but it’s nice to still be up there in the mix, flying the flag.” Well, he did end up winning, but he wasn’t in attendance to accept his prize.
Hours after the ceremony wrapped up, Gervais posted a three-word acceptance speech on social media as only he could: “I f***ing won!” The comedian accompanied the remark with a photo of him holding a Golden Globe from when he hosted the ceremony years earlier — see below.
I fucking won! pic.twitter.com/qi7np1J6KQ
— Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) January 8, 2024
Gervais later followed that up with some more, shall we say, heartfelt words of wisdom.

‘Naked Gun’ Turns 35: Team on Adapting Failed TV Series, Leslie Nielsen’s Magic, Reboot Frustrations
Turning a short-lived parody TV series into a feature film was always going to involve taking a chance, but as the team behind the Naked Gun franchise learned, it wasn’t quite on the level of sticking your face in a fan.
Following the breakout success of the 1980 smash hit Airplane!, that film’s writer-director team — David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker — found themselves grounded when ABC promptly canceled their police-spoofing show Police Squad! in 1982. But the series’ co-creators refused to let the concept die and went on to adapt it for The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, which Paramount Pictures released theatrically on Dec. 2, 1988. The movie, featuring Leslie Nielsen reprising his Police Squad! lead role as accident-prone police lieutenant Frank Drebin, also starred Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalbán, George Kennedy and O. J. Simpson.

Barry Williams isn’t going home with the Len Goodman Mirror Ball trophy now that he and pro dance partner Peta Murgatroyd have been eliminated from Season 32 of Dancing With the Stars. However, he’s headed back to Branson, Missouri with something even better – the knowledge he’s entertained millions of DWTS fans and proven that guys in their 60s can still go shirtless! The Brady Bunch star not only increased his scores from last week, earning a 32 for his and Murgatroyd’s rumba, but the pair also picked up an additional three points for impressing the judges in a salsa dance off against Jason Mraz and his pro partner Daniella Karagach. Judge Derek Hough, who’s touring across the country with his dance show Derek Hough A Symphony of Dance, has said that Williams is the most popular contestant this season. “That made me feel great,” Williams told TV Insider after the show.

There are quite a few movies with two things that I wouldn’t put together normally that get thrust into each other for our entertainment. Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus, Ninjas vs Zombies, Cowboys vs Vampires (yes these are all actual movies that I have seen) and now the apocalypse and clowns.
Like many movies with crazy-sounding themes, the title alone does get your attention but the story itself is actually as simple as it could be. An electrical and technological blackout has hit Ireland and now anarchy and chaos have hit the country. A group of mostly failed clowns have ended up together travelling the country and trying to survive. But, it might give them one last shot at the big time.

London, May 20 (Ians) English comedian Ricky Gervais earned a staggering 1.41 million pounds ($1.75 million) or over Rs 10 crore from a single stand-up performance, making history as the world’s highest-grossing single gig by a British stand-up comedian.
After taking to the stage in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on May 6 as part of his Armageddon tour, the British comedian joked that he would “retire” after how much money he made at the packed-out show, reports mirror.co.uk.
Needless to say, Ricky could actually retire if he wanted to, as he has seen a hugely successful career in the world of comedy, acting, writing and directing that has raked him in a whopping net worth of $160 million.
Ricky’s primary source of money has come from ‘The Office’ which he wrote, created and starred in from 2001 to 2003. The beloved series saw massive success and was adapted into the hugely popular American version...

Although "Scream 2" was mostly well-received back in 1997, audiences had one major complaint: the killer reveals were far more underwhelming than they were the first time around. Some of this was unavoidable; the first film's big twist was less the killers themselves than the fact that there were two of them, so it could afford to make both Billy Loomis and Stu seem sketchy as hell without giving too much away.
"Scream 2" didn't have that luxury. The possibility of two killers had not been forgotten, so screenwriter Kevin Williamson had to come up with a different approach for its two big reveals. The result was a little disappointing; the killers turned out to be Mickey (Timothy Olyphant) and Debbie Salt, aka Mrs. Loomis (Laurie Metcalf) — two characters who didn't make a huge impression on audiences pre-reveal.
Upon rewatch, it's clear that Mrs. Loomis was indeed a constant presence throughout the film,...

Exclusive: Christian Gudegast (Den of Thieves) has closed a deal to direct the thriller Crown Vic for MadRiver Pictures.
Crown Vic is described as a too-insane-to-be-true crime story set in the early 1980s San Fernando Valley — a world where L.A. cops, mythologized by TV shows from Dragnet to CHiPs, were rock stars who operated with unchecked power. Its protagonists are Richard Ford and Robert Von Villas, two Vietnam War heroes turned superstar LAPD cops, who parlayed their positions to get rich, while cozying up to Hollywood’s biggest TV stars. The duo went on to build an underground criminal operation as thieves, gun runners and murderers for hire, until their unwilling business partner risked everything to bring them down.

The BBC is 100 years old. It was formed back in 1922, the same year that the Soviet Union was founded. And while the Ussr perhaps shaped the course of 20th-century history more than any other entity, it also collapsed in 1989 – whereas the BBC is going strong to this day. So who’s to say which has the more profound legacy?
It would’ve been hard to predict in 1922, when Lord Reith was tasked with putting together a consortium of British wireless providers, the way that the corporation would develop. The past century has seen the BBC grow from a small-time radio organisation to a global media superpower. The BBC has become one of the world’s biggest digital news sources, it has broadcast coronations and weddings and funerals, Olympics and Euros and World Cups. All to millions of viewers. Full of “Aww!”-some throwbacks to the past and tantalizing harbingers of the future, Thursday’s ultra-zippy Grey’s Anatomy got the long-running ABC drama’s Season 19 off to a pretty fantastic start. Greys Anatomy is heading into a transformational season. Star Ellen Pompeo is scaling back her on-screen presence to eight episodes, signaling a potential departure of her character Meredith which has been the heart of the medical drama since the start. Meanwhile, five new actors are joining as interns in one of the show’s biggest cast infusions ever, reminiscent of the Grey’s pilot that introduced Meredith and her fellow wide-eyed interns.
So is Season 19 setting the stage for a revamped Grey’s Anatomy: The Next Generation or could it be its last chapter?

How far can immaculate eyebrows and a whole host of talent get you in life? Well, if Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein is any indication, the answer is pretty freaking far!
When Ted Lasso first premiered on Apple TV+ in August 2020, it immediately made waves for having a deep bench of compelling supporting players to act opposite lead Jason Sudeikis. But with the utmost respect to Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and everyone else in the AFC Richmond football team’s orbit, it was Brett Goldstein’s Roy Kent who jumped off the screen in particular.
Loosely inspired by the real life footballer Roy Keane, Roy Kent is a veteran at the tail end of his career whose gruff exterior (including multiple profanities and damn near monosyllabic speech patterns) neatly cover up a vibrant inner sensitivity. In embodying the surprisingly deep Kent, Goldstein won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting...

Roy Kent is staying with Warner Bros. Fc.
Ted Lasso star, writer and co-exec producer Brett Goldstein has struck an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
The Brit, best known for his on-screen role as the hardman of AFC Richmond, will develop and produce new series with the studio as part of the multi-year agreement. The deal, which covers writing, development and producing rather than acting, marks Goldstein’s first overall pact.
It comes as he is in hot demand. Goldstein is currently working on season three of the Apple TV comedy, which is set to start production soon, and recently set up Jason Segal-fronted therapist comedy series Shrinking at Apple, which gave it a ten-episode order, alongside his Ted Lasso boss Bill Lawrence.
Goldstein, who won the 2021 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, previously created and exec produced AMC anthology series Soulmates with Will Bridges.

Stephen Colbert’s Spartina Productions banner has set a three-year first-look deal to develop television and streaming content for CBS Studios.
Colbert, host of CBS’ “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” is a principal in the company alongside his wife, Evelyn McGee Colbert. Also joining them as principals are “Late Show” executive producers Chris Licht and Tom Purcell. The plan is to bring in an executive to oversee operations and drive development efforts.
The pact comes as the portfolio of TV programs produced in recent months under Colbert’s umbrella has grown to a half-dozen, including “The Late Show” itself.
Colbert’s team produces the animated “Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News” for Paramount Plus, as well as “Fairview” and “Washingtonia” on Comedy Central. He executive produced the critically lauded Hulu special “Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself.” And Colbert is an executive producer on the Comedy Central...

Derek Hough is one of the busiest people on “Dancing with the Stars” Season 30 — just not necessarily on the show itself. The “Dancing” judge kicks off his Las Vegas residency, “Derek Hough: No Limit,” on Wednesday, Sept. 22, and yes, he wanted the two shows to coincide.
“I did. I wanted to have that synergy. It’s so much easier being a judge on the show than it is being a pro dancer in terms of the emotional, mental and physical demands,” Hough told TV Insider. “I think having [my] show and being a judge will complement each other. It’s a short flight between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.”
Hough will perform five nights a week — Wednesdays through Sundays — at The Venetian Resort. That schedule is nothing compared to the one he had in 2015 when he starred in “New York Spring Spectacular” at Radio City Music Hall while he was a...

Derek Hough is doing double duty this fall. He’ll be sitting at the judges’ table alongside the paddle-waving Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli for Dancing With the Stars‘ 30th season. And on Wednesday, September 22, the six-time mirrorball champion launches his Las Vegas residency with “Derek Hough: No Limit.” Earlier this month, Hough took home his third Emmy, winning in the category of Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming, for two dances he performed last season on DWTS. He’ll be hitting the floor again this season, too. TV Insider chatted with Hough about what else viewers might expect on DWTS, which celebrity he’d like to have had if he were competing as a pro, and more. If you’re going to be in Las Vegas area this fall, learn more about Hough’s show at the Venetian by clicking here. Congratulations on your Emmy.

The cast of the royal drama was celebrating with its own red-carpet event in Soho, London as a result of the travel ban that currently precludes non-u.S. citizens or permanent residents from entering the U.S. from the UK, grounding a lot of folks in the capital.

An elated Brett Goldstein said he “was very, very specifically told I am not allowed to swear,” if he won, which he did Sunday, nabbing the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Ted Lasso. Working on the show, he said, “has been one of the biggest honors and privileges… and pleasures of my life.”
The British actor plays potty-mouthed soccer ace turned commentator turned coach Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, the AppleTV+ phenomenon that’s become the nascent streamer’s new calling card, has nabbed it for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
His cantankerous character with hidden depths was an Emmy favorite competing in a field of eight contenders where half were from Ted Lasso.
Nods for Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), Nick Mohammed (Nathan) and Jeremy Swift (Higgins) might well have resulted in vote splitting, which makes it hard for one actor to emerge from the pack victorious.

Japanese Action Star Rina Takeda Among Cast In Talks For Hong Kong Zombie Movie ‘Chungking Mansions’
Exclusive: Japanese action star Rina Takeda, Korean actress and model Go Joon-hee, Hong Kong actress Wiyona Yeung, and Singaporean actors Desmond Tan and Rebecca Lim are in discussions to join Hong Kong zombie movie Chungking Mansions.

The action-thriller will film primarily in English – the lead character is an American desperately striving to save his wife and child who are holed up in Chungking Mansions – but we’re told the film will feature a number of languages including Japanese, Cantonese, and Korean to reflect the multi-cultural nature of both the production and Chungking Mansions itself.

The Office and After Life creator Ricky Gervais has spoken out against UK government proposals to sell broadcaster Channel 4.
In a tweet on Monday, Gervais told his 14.4 million followers that Channel 4’s unique remit would be “destroyed” if it were privatized. He added that it would be a “real shame” if ministers push ahead with the plans.
For almost 40 years, Channel 4 has been a launch pad for new ideas and new talent. It’s been able to do that because of its remit and not-for-profit structure and it would be a real shame if that was destroyed by selling off the channel.

Channel 4 is government-owned but is editorially and commercially independent from the state. It has a mission to support the UK production sector and back risky program making. Gervais has directly benefited from this, making shows including Derek for the broadcaster.

On May 30, actor, writer and director Bo Burnham launched a surprise sneak attack on a category that’s already one of the most competitive at this year’s Emmy Awards. That day, Netflix dropped “Bo Burnham Inside,” a comedy and music special that dissected life during the pandemic, won rave reviews and seemingly became a major player in the Emmys’ Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category.
In a year of shows that surveyed our troubled existence in the face of Covid, “Inside” might well be the Covid-iest of all. Written, shot and performed by Burnham over the course of a year from inside a single room, it’s a twisted musical-comedy meditation on isolation, social media and the sociopolitical currents of our time.
It pretends to be a soul-baring examination of Burnham’s mental turmoil during lockdown, but it also mocks all that soul-baring; it’s supposed to be a record...

Ricky Gervais has confirmed that production has wrapped on the third season of his Netflix series “After Life,” following a seven-week shoot.
The actor and writer tweeted “Day 35 on #AfterLife3 And that’s a wrap” alongside an emoji of two champagne glasses clinking. He also included a photograph of himself walking through a bucolic forest landscape with his canine companion Brandy (played by a female German Shepherd called Anti.)
The actor was spotted filming last week in a village in Hertfordshire, according to a local newspaper. He has also shared near daily updates from the shoot on Twitter over the past two months.
Production of “After Life” was rocked last week when sexual misconduct allegations emerged against Charlie Hanson, the show’s producer. Netflix removed the executive — a long-time collaborator of Gervais’ who has produced a number of his series and movies — from the production. He is accused of sexual misconduct by 11 women.

Ricky Gervais issued a statement Saturday, commenting on the “immediate removal” of Netflix’s “After Life” producer Charlie Hanson following accusations made by several women of predatory behavior.
“I am shocked and appalled to learn of the historical allegations made by a number of women against Charlie Hanson. The decision was made to immediately remove him from production and I am confident the matter is being handled thoroughly,” Gervais said.
Gervais’ long-time collaborator was the subject of an anonymous email sent to Netflix and BAFTA, detailing a history of sexual misconduct. Although his name was initially withheld, the U.K. outlet The Times revealed it was Hanson, and it reported that 11 women complained about the producer’s behavior. British television producer and director Charlie Hanson has been removed from Netflix’s Ricky Gervais comedy After Life and he has been suspended by BAFTA amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
Both Netflix and BAFTA were sent an anonymous email this week containing allegations about Hanson. The Times of London reported on Saturday that he is the subject of complaints from 11 women, who have detailed accusations dating from 2008 to 2015. Hanson strenuously denies wrongdoing.
Netflix confirmed Hanson is no longer a producer on After Life. A spokeswoman said: “On Monday, we received an anonymous email containing historical allegations about a producer on one of our titles. Whilst the allegations are unrelated to his time on the show, we immediately removed him from the production and referred the matter to the police.”
In a statement, Gervais added: “I am shocked and appalled to learn of the historical allegations made by a number of women against Charlie Hanson.

The late Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) returned to his wife Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) in a dream at the end of last Thursday’s Season 17 premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy,” while Mer was passed out in the hospital parking lot. Fans didn’t know exactly what was wrong with the doctor at that point, but Dempsey confirmed on “Ellen” Wednesday that Meredith, after helping Covid-19 patients for days, has in fact contracted the virus herself.
“And I was like, what a great opportunity for people and how great it would be for the fans, really, to see everybody reunited in this sort of bizarre way,” the “Grey’s” alum told Ellen DeGeneres of his top-secret return for Season 17. “And [showrunner Krista Vernoff] came up with this concept where I would come and visit [Meredith] in her Covid dream.”
