I'm a big music fan, and being a fan of classic rock I've always loved Jimi Hendrix. After a friend recommended it I caught this doc late one weekend. The film features several interviews with the people who knew Jimi best. Jimi's story is told from his birth to his pre-mature death and throughout anecdotes, and analysis is shared on not only Jimi's music, but his insecurities and flaws as a man.
Anchoring the documentary is Jimi's brother Leon. He tells stories of him and Jimi's upbringing and how the troubles led Jimi to find solace in his guitar. This is what really catapults "Hendrix on Hendrix" above other docs is the focus it places on Jimi's formative years. Of course ample time is given to his momentous carer, but it is the frail formative moments of his youth and how they informed his musical growth that makes this doc such an informative watch.

I will save this on my DVR. It was that good. Leon left us with information that only he knew about like when managers gave him and Jimmie an allowance of 50 or 100 dollars when they needed money because he was going thru a lawsuit about publishing and ownership. Before Jimmie died he was still not to see any of that money. His estate was sorted out later after his death. If it wasn't for all of those money sucking leaches on his back he would have been happier and wouldn't have wanted to escape so much. I blame them for his death. Instead his death teaches us so much. Thanks for the insiders look on this prolific icon Jimmie Marshall Hendrix.

This is an excellent Jimi Hendrix biography. Film is created by Jimi's brother Leon. So you get a close personal story of Jimi's life. From his childhood and on. I like the interviews in the film. You get an idea of his upbringing and how it affected his music. The film goes into many topics like his problems with drugs, the battles with music contracts, and how his personal fashion/style also became an issue. It's nice to have a film out there on him, since there is not really much out there on this great musician and performer. If you are a fan of Jimi Hendrix, a fan of musician documentaries or a fan of great music you will enjoy this film. He died way too young but at least we have his music forever.

If you consider yourself a fan of music, this is an absolute must see. Many films have been made about the legendary guitar hero Jimmi Hendrix, but this is the first time I have heard an inside view like this one. Leon Hendrix, brother of Jimmi sits down for the first time and talks about the Jimmi he knew. He speaks of his brothers early life, drug problems, and his dark times. Few knew Jimmi like his brother, and this makes for great interview content, and an even better documentary film. If you want to learn more about the greatest guitar player of all time, and watch his friends, and family talk about him, this is the way to do it.

Saw this documentary recently on demand and it was very enlightening. Jimi Hendrix died too soon and this documentary sheds some light into his personal life. His brother Leon shows you his perspective of their upbringing, drug addiction and his inevitable rise to fame. Leon Hendrix is also the creator of this documentary, so u get a sense the Leon definitely cares and want people to be taught the history of his talented brother. It also includes interviews from other artists. His legacy and music will definitely carry on, reminding people of how rock changed and touched many lives and how Jimi Hendrix is considered one of the best guitar players of all time. If you like music history, or just good music this is something that you will enjoy.

Jimi Hendrix was an awesome musician and I wish I would have been old enough to see Jimi in concert. That would have been so great. But for now I am glad to see anything I can on him. I thought this documentary was very well told by his brother and others. It touched on a lot of topics of his life from his flamboyant style, growing up with basically no mom or dad around, his drugs and other career struggles. But all this made him into the great musician and performer that he was. Unfortunately we lost him way to early, but his music will live on forever. I would recommend this film on him, this way you get to see a little more of him, into his life story.
