Under the pact, Hicks will create, write and produce new series and other projects for the streamer. The Untitled Quinta Brunson pilot (fka Harrity Elementary) follows a group of teachers brought together in a public school simply because they love teaching. Brunson stars as Janine, an optimistic new second-grade teacher with much to learn. Williams plays Gregory, a substitute-turned-permanent teacher at the school. James is Ava, the school’s spirited new principal.

The ad-free subscription video-on-demand service, priced at $9.99 a month, will kick off with more than 1,000 hours of shows, movies and stand-up specials, including content from Tyler Perry, Tracy Oliver, Will Packer and other African American content creators.

Larry “Flash” Jenkins, the actor best known for his roles in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Fletch, has died. He was 63.

Jenkins died suddenly on Thursday in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

At this time, it is unclear if Jenkins had been suffering from prior heart problems.

A representative for the actor did not immediately respond to People’s request for comment.

Under the pact, Gonzalez via his Fortaleza Productions and Kapital’s Kaplan and Dana Honor will focus on content for the underserved Latino market, developing Latino-based multi-camera comedy series for broadcast, cable and streaming.

Gonzalez and Kaplan met more than five years ago when Gonzalez directed multiple episodes of two of Kaplan’s first series as a producer, Instant Mom and Wendell & Vinnie for Nick at Nite. Teen Beach franchise co-star John DeLuca has washed up on a new shore in the Disney-abc world, with a role on General Hospital.

Instant Mom has been cancelled by Nick at Nite. There will not be a fourth season of the sitcom starring Tia Mowry-Hardrict. Deadline reported on Wednesday that Nickelodeon will not renew the series, which will actually air its series finale on TV Land in December. The series will wrap with a total of 65 episodes.

In addition to the cancellation news for the series, Nick at Nite has also put their original programming on hold. Instant Mom was the only original program from the network currently on air.

This series aired season one on Nick at Nite. Season two also aired on Nick at Nite, but the third season was moved to TV Land. However, the comedy series does not fit the programming currently airing on TV Land. That likely contributed to the decision to cancel the series.

The current third season of Nickelodeon sitcom Instant Mom will be its last. The network has informed the cast and the crew of the family comedy starring Tia Mowry-Hardrict that the show won’t be renewed for a fourth season. Three seasons has been the longest a Nick at Nite original series has run, matched by the block’s first original comedy, See Dad Run, though Instant Mom produced more episodes, 65, to See Dad Run‘s 50. Gearing up for another year of excitement, the 46th Annual NAACP Image Awards just unveiled the first round of hopefuls and there are plenty of worthy contenders.

In the television categories, Shonda Rhimes’ series “Scandal” and “How to Get Away With Murder” are among the most nominated, though “Black-ish” is also up there. Meanwhile, “Selma” and “Get on Up” are the top two movies on the docket, ahead of the big event on Friday, February 6th, 2015. Per the official website, “The NAACP Image Awards honors the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film, and honors those who promote social justice through creative endeavors.”

With a half-dozen nods apiece, ABC’s Scandal and black-ish, Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black and the Lifetime TV-movie The Trip to Bountiful lead the TV nominees for the 46th NAACP Image Awards, which will be held Feb. 6, 2015 and broadcast on TV One.

ABC meanwhile led all networks, with a total of 26 nominations.

The NAACP Image Awards celebrate the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film. Here are some of this year’s major TV categories; the complete list is here. (Coming later this week: SAG Award and Golden Globe nominations.

The nominees for the 46th annual NAACP Image Awards were announced Tuesday, lauding the year's best films and television shows -- among other artforms -- featuring people of color.

"Selma" led the pack with eight nominations, including nods for best picture, best actor (David Oyelowo), three supporting actor nods (André Holland, Common, and Wendell Pierce), and two supporting actress nods (Carmen Ejogo and Oprah Winfrey). Director Ava DuVernay was also nominated for her work behind the camera.

On the television front, "Scandal" and "Orange Is the New Black" tied with six nominations apiece, while fellow freshman series "black-ish" and "How to Get Away with Murder" each received five nods.
