Female rappers have had an amazing past couple of years with artists like Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and Latto rocketing up the charts. However, Cardi B probably takes the cake as the most successful in recent years. She had her big breakthrough with “Invasion of Privacy,” the first solo female project to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album. However, in a male-dominated genre (especially back in 2018), and with other big names also vying for the award, how did Cardi manage to get ahead?
SEEBillboard Hot 100: Every #1 song of 2022
“Invasion of Privacy” was born with the number-one hit “Bodak Yellow.” It was a bit of a surprise hit, climbing its way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 fast as it became increasingly viral. For years, critics, listeners, and fans have asked the same snide question: “What does DJ Khaled actually do?” No one really wanted to know the answer, because the answer was always beside the point. In reality, DJ Khaled was building a pathway of success that made a certain amount of sense. If the album is waning, the superstars dwindling, and the hit songs less predictable, pure excess becomes a reasonable strategy.

G-Eazy is making the posse cut a central part of his repertoire. Last week, he was down in New Orleans to film a video with Yung Miami of City Girls and London on da Track. Back in 2017, he had a hit in “No Limit,” with Cardi B and A$AP Rocky. Last night, he brought that crew mentality to his Jimmy Kimmel Live performance, with L.A. upstart Blueface and Bay Area compatriot Allblack for a live performance of their collaboration “West Coast.”

The Alliance, the new partnership formed by leading European pubcasters to counter the growing power of Netflix and other players, is revving up with two new international dramas, “Around the World in 80 Days” and “Mirage.”
The Alliance was formed last year by France Televisions, Germany’s Zdf and Italy’s Rai. The partners unveiled their two new ambitious shows Wednesday at Series Mania in Lille, France.
For France Televisions in particular, the series are part of a wider move into high-end international drama that also includes French series like “Germinal,” based on Emile Zola’s classic novel, and the adaptation of Guillaume Musso’s bestseller, “La jeune fille et la nuit,” both of which France Televisions is developing outside of the Alliance.

Constance Zimmer believes that bringing in a female suitor for season three of “UnReal” created a dynamic “that we haven’t seen before” between her character, the tough-as-nails producer Quinn, and her protege Rachel (Shiri Appleby). In its first two seasons this satirical behind-the-scenes look at a reality dating competition series featured bachelors searching for love among casts of eligible women. This year the sexes were flipped, with determined career woman Serena Wolcott (Caitlin FitzGerald) sifting through a variety of men. “It made both of them very aware of how much they take down women, even though that’s not their goal,” Zimmer explains. The two had to ask themselves, “How do you manipulate and empower a woman at the same time?” Watch our exclusive video interview with Zimmer above.

Cardi B will co-host The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, April 9. After chatting with host Fallon, and performing, in support of the April 6 debut of album, “Invasion of Privacy,” she will stick around to interview the evening’s other guests with Fallon.
It’s the first time the show has named a “co-host,” NBC says.
It’s Cardi B’s third visit to Fallon’s NBC late-night show; she was on last year on December 20 as a guest, and performed “No Limit” with G-Eazy in September.

Not only does Cardi B’s hit “Bodak Yellow” make money move … it also makes the chart move.
The Bronx-born singer (born Belcalis Almanzar) just became the third artist and first rapper in history to place her first three Billboard Hot 100 entries in the chart’s Top 10 simultaneously, joining only the Beatles and Ashanti in achieving the accomplishment.
“Bodak Yellow” had fallen out of the Billboard Top 10, but on Tuesday it moved up two places, allowing her to clinch the honor. The rapper celebrated the feat with a triumphant Instagram video, dancing around in nothing but sweatpants and a bra in front of Christmas decorations.
