The character "Pookie" played by Alphonso McAuley is a nod to Chris Rock's character "Pookie" from New Jack City (1991). Some of the same lines were mentioned during the crackhouse scene.
When Gordon (James Marsden) gives Rose (Gillian Jacobs) his address, he provides 244 Traction Ave. close to the 6th Street Bridge in DTLA. This is not a real address, moreover, Traction is actually closest to the 4th Street Bridge, the next block over. However, 837 Traction Ave is real, and is famous as the apartment building used for the 2011-2018 sitcom New Girl.
Both Elizabeth Banks and James Marsden have played love interests for the main characters of 30 Rock (2006). Banks for Alec Baldwin and Marsden for Tina Fey.
When Scrilla (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) sees Meghan (Elizabeth Banks) for the first time, he says "you're coming at me like a zombie!" Lawrence Gilliard Jr. also appeared in The Walking Dead (2010).
