The film was originally called "Bind" and the distributors changed the name to American Conjuring. It wasn't the creators decision to change the name.
Photos of the directors as little boys can be see in the newspaper article that's shown during the TV news broadcast.
The location for the orphanage at the start of the movie was actually an art gallery.
