Is Ben following in his late grandmother's footsteps into a life of crime? Is he the Black Cat, a Master thief of antiquities?
It's a pale imitation of the original, where that had charm, warmth and humour, and a definite broad appeal for the whole family, this one just lacked anything unique.
The jokes simply didn't land, none of it was in the slightest bit funny, it felt very tired and somehow stale.
Julia McKenzie made the original, her absence was the major difference here, nobody quite fitted the bill, Maggie Steed was ok, but McKenzie was missed.
Acting wise, I'll give credit to young Archie Yates, but some of the acting was mediocre at best, there's were just too many changes to the original lineup, I love both Griff Rhys Jones and Sheridan Smith, but the pair weren't great here. I thought David Walliams was excruciating.
4/10.
