Emraan Hashmi has been associated with horror genre for long, and will soon be exploring the spooky realm with “Raaz Reboot”. The actor says most of the stars shrug off the genre thinking that it “doesn’t get a place in the archive of path-breaking cinema”.
“I would say the general perception is horror doesn’t get a place in the archive of path-breaking cinema even in Hollywood. That’s the truth … I am doing it purely because of the genre,” Emraan told Ians.
He added: “It is one of the genres that has a very different kind of reaction from the audience and I find it fascinating.”
Emraan has been associated with horror genre through “Raaz” franchise and “Ek Thi Daayan”.

It is the season for sportspersons' bio-pics. At the last count we had films in the pipeline or on the floors on the lives of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat (starring Aamir Khan) cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni (starring Sushant Singh Rajput), badminton player Saina Nehwal (to feature Deepika Padukone) and hockey wizard Dhyan Chand (cast undecided). Now comes the news that a bio-pic on the Olympian shooter Abhinav Bindra is ready to go on the floors as soon as the main casting is place. The film on Bindra will be directed by Kannan Iyer who earlier directed the eerie Ek Thi Daayan. Says a source, "The cast is in place except the central character. For Abhinav Bindra's role, Iyer has zeroed-in on two actors Ranbir Kapoor and Varun Dhawan who are the right build age and spirit to portray Bindra from age 17 to his present age (33)." Apparently both actors have displayed...

Once titled 'hitman' Hashmi due to his superb success record, actor Emraan Hashmi has been searching for that elusive hit for almost three years now. To be precise, his last big hit was Raaz 3 which released in September 2012.
In fact since Raaz 3, Emraan Hashmi has had some very promising films like Shanghai, Ek Thi Daayan, Ghanchakkar, etc flopping at the ticket window. Even his Dharma Productions outing Ungli failed to cut much ice, and the case was similar with his home banner venture (Vishesh Films), Mr X which despite the much touted SFX tanked. In all the cases, the hit music which was always associated with Emraan Hashmi films (and which earned him our title, music's lucky mascot) was clearly missing.
To cut a long story short, all eyes and hopes now rest on the golden boy Mohit Suri (Emraan's friend and cousin) to rejuvenate Emraan Hashmi's career and...

From Special 26 to Krrish 3 here’s a look at what we think are the best looking posters of movies released this year.
1. Aashiqui 2
The music of this movie made it on our best album list this year and now the poster has caught our eye too. Kyunki tum hi ho…
2. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
While there were other posters which show the star cast of the movie we thought this poster was an accurate portrayal of the movie about the man they call The Flying Sikh – Milkha Singh.
3. Chennai Express
Encapsulating a Rohit Shetty film the posters shows everything except the main lead flying in mid-air which is a trademark Rs ishtyle.
4. Ek Thi Daayan
A supernatural thriller with twists and turns the movie revolves around finding the daayan(witch). Not to give to much away but this poster gives you a big clue! Plus it is really cool!

The actress, who made her feature-film debut with a supporting role in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur -Part 1, has been usually spotted by the way she looks.
The Times of India recently reported on her point of view about the issue. “I am tall and I don’t look like a malnourished heroine or very thin as a commercial heroine does.” However, her unconventional looks do not seem to be an obstacle for her career as she assures to be “getting roles and good ones too”. In fact, she does not think to be the only successful actress that does not fit the stereotype. “I can give you so many examples like Sonakshi Sinha or Vidya Balan, who are not reed thin and are doing really well for themselves.”

To celebrate acclaimed Bollywood playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan’s UK tour, the team at BollySpice thought it would be cool to put together a special feature which looks at her greatest songs. Sunidhi is unsurprisingly in-demand amongst Bollywood filmmakers, who want her voice to be mimed by some of the hottest actresses in the industry. Her success is evident in the fact that she will be gracing the stage of the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London this Friday as part of her UK tour.
Having first acquired popularity by singing the songs for the film Mast (1999), Sunidhi is considered one of few who can use her voice to give it that provocative touch. She has sung to some of Bollywood’s most iconic tracks and has to some extent contributed towards the popularity of actresses like Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu by lending them her voice in their films.

Kareena Kapoor will star opposite Emraan Hashmi in Ekta Kapoor’s next venture ‘Badtameez Dil’ and the diva refused to lock-lips with the serial kisser. When Kareena was asked to smooch Emraan, she straightway refused as she is not comfortable to do kissing scene. The past track of Emraan Hashmi shows if the actor has kissing scene in any movies, the movie boomed at the box-office than those films which has no lip-locking scenes. ‘Shanghai’, ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ and ‘Ghanchakkar’ failed at the box-office as it showed the actor in a simple role without smooching scene. What's the common factor in Emraan Hashmi's last few films? Well, none of these boasted of trademark 'Emraan Hashmi' kind of songs. Whether it is Ghanchakkar, Ek Thi Daayan, Rush or Shanghai, each of these had the kind of music that was miles away from the kind that goes with Emraan's territory. All of that is going to change now with Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi remake, work on which has already begun. For starters, the film would be an out and out musical and would boast of as m...

It was mentioned in this column last week that for Ghanchakkar to eventually come up trumps, a lot would depend on the weekday collections. Well, as it happened, the film didn’t quite cover much distance after a decent weekend and collected around 10 crores more. The film did stay stable but that was on the lower end that resulted in the first week billing of 32 crores.
Though these are decent collections for the film, much better was expected given the credentials involved. Still, if one compares these with some other films that Emraan Hashmi had done in the recent past which were not in his ‘zone’, case in point being Ek Thi Daayan and Shanghai, the film has fared better. However, one did look forward to more appreciation coming in for the film along with box office moolah, something that was not the case as it had to settle down with an ‘Average’ tag.

Last week’s prediction of Ghanchakkar came true on two counts. First and foremost, it opened much better in multiplexes when compared to single screens. Secondly, the average footfalls for this widely released film were in 40%-50% range. However, it was also predicted that the film would see some good rise in collections over the weekend. Well, as it happened, this didn’t quite turn out to be the case as the film managed to stay on just about stable and couldn’t really see much escalation. As a result, the weekend collections were around 22 crores which, if not excellent, are decent for sure.
In fact if one looks at the kind of average to above average reviews that the film managed to get at large, and had a similar response from audience as well, this Rajkumar Gupta directed film still managed to have its head above water for a major part of the weekend.

Mumbai, June 28: After showcasing a unique spooky film like "Ek Thi Daayan", filmmaker Kannan Iyer is in no mood for any supernatural drama. He says he wants to work on a period drama, but for now, he just wants to enjoy a break.
If the grapevine was to be believed, a sequel to "Ek Thi Daayan" was in the pipeline, but Iyer told Ians: "I dont see a sequel to 'Ek Thi Daayan'. I need a break before I think of any supernatural drama. Let's see how things shape up."
So, what's next?
"Most probably my next would be a period drama as I have few ideas like a biopic, historical drama and some contemporary love stories," said.

In their last few films, both Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan have played rather serious characters. However for their next release together, Ghanchakkar, the duo has just let their hair down. This is not just for the camera but also behind the scenes."There have been way too many intense films that Emraan has done in the recent past. Ek Thi Daayan is a recent example where he was tense for most part of the affair. Ditto for his delayed film Rush. Even before that in Raaz 3, his...

Ek Thi Daayan has released and as a supernatural affair, it has managed to find niche audience for itself. While some expected it to fare on the same lines as some of the other quintessential horror flicks (a few have even starred Emraan Hashmi), director Kannan Iyer states that his communication to the audience has always been clear from the very onset."For starters, we never pitched this as a horror film. Reason being that Ek Thi Daayan doesn't belong to that genre. Instead...

Welcome return to commercial form for actor Gerard Butler, but overall audience figures are down thanks to the spring sunshine
The winner: sunshine
The weekend before a big blockbuster is often quiet at the box office, as distributors are reluctant to release a major film, only to see it get clobbered seven days later. Consequently, with the summer blockbuster season officially kicking off this Thursday with Iron Man 3, the market is relatively becalmed. Even so, cinema owners could have done without the spring sunshine that finally arrived across much of the country on Saturday and Sunday, reducing audience numbers especially for matinees and early evening showtimes.
Including Wednesday/Thursday previews totalling £652,000, Olympus Has Fallen opened at the chart summit with £2.25m. Ignoring the previews, top title remains Tom Cruise sci-fi Oblivion, with £1.66m. For Gerard Butler, Olympus represents a welcome return to commercial form after his last film Playing for Keeps...

Ek Thi Daayan director Kannan Iyer who has taken off on a holiday after the release of his film, agrees with the critics who feel the second-half of the film has gone wrong.
Soft spoken and thoughtful, the director who waited ten years to make his directorial debut says, "Maybe commercial considerations coloured the second movement of the storytelling. To me, the core of the story in Ek Thi Daayan is the relationship between the children and their stepmother who they think might be a witch. I was not interested in the horror or the supernatural elements per se. It was the inherent drama in the theme that interested me. It's always the drama that grips me."
Kannan can't thank his stars enough for discovering the two children Visshesh Tiwari and Sara Arjun. "Pavan Malhotra and Konkona Sen-Sharma who played their parents would have their jaws fall open when they would see the kids perform.

A good storyteller plays with the audience’s mind by using their actual fears – the shadows on the wall, the corners of the room that scare at night, that old lift in the building. Kannan Iyer takes the age old lore of witches and witchcraft and sets it right into our daily modern lives giving us one of the few chilling and superbly shot horror films.
