Good to see a movie that gives a motivational message to our youth.
It's a movie that I'm sure people can relate to in various ways from drugs, gangs, families, bad influences and most importantly religion and the role it plays. It was a movie that also had showcased morals and the importance of role models.
These topics in the movie may seem controversial but it's important for people to see these things and realise this is real.
Well done to the movie makers and actors.
Great to see movies like this being produced.
Thank you for the actors and producer for travelling to Australia and having a panel discussion to inspire the arts within the community.

Amazing Film I watched at Cineplex in Scarborough Town Centre.
How many people are running for The Amercian Dreams? How many lose their lives trying to become millionaires, never satisfied with current present situations. Always thinking the grass is greener on the other side. This is where this film 'Purple Don't Cry' comes in. When cautioned about gang life and trying to earn income that is not halal and the consequences of earning dirty money. As in Scarface with Al Pacino Mama Montana says 'You think you can come in here with your hot-shot clothes. I don't need your money...' the dirty earned money that will destroy them all. What a mother hopes and wishes for her kids, Bilal will not listen, he wants instant gratification. Doesn't want to go to school and wants to be like others around him in bad neighbourhoods. Purple played by the generous Mohammed Boonaa warms Bilal and tries to help him stay out of the street life but Bilal want the gold teeth and the cool sneakers.
It sad that many will learn the hard way. Many of us are irresponsible, we disregard consequences of our actions, only to learn the hard way and Bilal makes that mistake that many take when guided astray. Ignoring the truth and being in an an individualistic society, he become self absorbed and selfish and deals with drugs.
Bilal is careless of consequences. He does not listen to higher authorities and does his own thing only to fall into trouble. He shows lack of care about possible danger of gang life and doesn't worry about the risks and possible results of his actions until he reaches to Allah and repents. Unthinking boldness will always cause one to fail and Bilal makes the same mistake, only he is lucky that he doesn't end in the grave. Purple don't cry by Boonaa Mohammad means to me, that we listen to Allah and get on the straight path, that we always try not to fall into Satan's insinuations.
May Allah protect all youth from Satan's insinuations. Acknowledgement of God and his beauty, his love, his gifts. Hope that all youth who watch this film will start to take the right course of path and start to Pray in order to distance themselves from sheitan. Only through prayers can we exist and be protected.
When Bilal starts to pray he finds guidance, the right way. He connects with his family and finds love. His thinking becomes clear and correct.
Pride and arrogance destroyed Bilal and got a lot people into trouble. He thought he was better than other and thought that money solved all his problems only to bring more problems and the possibility of losing his life and the lives of those around him. Bilal's dirty money caused himself pain and pain to his humble family.

Human lack wisdom, good judgement, they don't carefully think things out, lack of care or thoughtfulness. Tendency to rush headlong into decisions or actions without careful contemplation. Not for seeing, unaware, or inconsiderate. Consequences of words to be uttered or actions to be performed. Insensitivity. Thoughtlessness. Lack of feeling.
Pray: helps us to be strong together, heals, helps to become active again, restored to a better, higher, or more worthy state.
Prayer is refreshing: it reinvigorates you, refreshes you, new and exciting. Gives you energy and vitality, makes you lively. Prayer is where OPTIMISM is practised.

The storyline is 10/10, touches on important issues that the youth face and the struggles one may have. I loved the dynamic Bilal and Abdullah have and the character development you see in Bilal, it provides hope for people out there who may be feeling like Bilal. Also the different inputs you get to see from characters like Jannah and Bilal's uncle is such a realistic way of showing how advice can impact you depending on who's giving it to you.
Overall, great film and hope to see more films like this in the future. Theres a lot of great stories in the Muslim communities that need to be heard.

The complexities of Purple's character is seen through our everyday lives being a first generation here in America and Muslim is a dual identity that often clash. This exceeded my expectations I thought it was gonna be a corny Islamic movie but this one is one for the books. The first of many. Boonaa...shocked us all by his ability to not only showcase himself with his words in poetry but also on the big screen. Like he said I hope films like this becomes a norm and we have a space to create and tell our stories! No longer being painted with a single brush of terrorism or pure violence. EVERYONE HAS TO SEEN THIS FILM 🎥 TAKE YOUR MOM , GRANDPA, SISTER, UNCLE, WHOEVER THIS IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY FILM.

Purple Don't Cry cleverly embodies the elements and expectations of a modern crime film without the use of profanity, music or any steamy content. I thoroughly enjoyed the film with my family and was fortunate to meet the friendly and passionate stars of the production at the premier in Sydney, NSW. My family and I were taken away by the creativity of the piece in portraying such a common and familiar narrative all of which being suitable we felt for a younger audience. As a father, I was grateful to share discussion with my children around the storyline and together we drew out many lessons that we believe should be taught to children as they ascend into the various circumstances that is life. The cast and acting was beyond expectation from a budget film and I believe that Purple & Bilal are two characters that we will collectively remember in the peaks and troughs of our own personal journeys. We highly recommend Purple Don't Cry. It is a must watch for all and especially for families with youth. We are looking forward to more creative pieces from this talented crew. Very well done!
We need more movies like this. This beats many multi-million dollar movies by a long shot for sure. Many morals and lessons can be derived from this movie and it was portrayed in a practical yet fabulous way. This movie contains many emotions throughout and is simply amazing how it is actually based on a true story!

"Purple Don't Cry" is a remarkable cinematic journey that follows a young Muslim and his battles in this world, it acknowledges the very REAL experiences of Muslims living in the west and how hard it can be to not follow the wrong path. This film takes us on an unforgettable exploration of the muslims capacity to overcome adversity and emerge stronger. The storyline is a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments and in the harshest circumstances, Iman, hope and determination can lead to incredible transformations. The exceptional performances by the cast, particularly the lead actors Boonna and Essam, bring authenticity and depth to their characters, making it easy to connect with their struggles and triumphs.
It is not often we see a movie for Muslims by Muslims and this one was exceptionally done. I wholeheartedly recommend this movie to anyone in need of inspiration and a powerful reminder of how short life can be.

Important messages for the Muslim youth captured in an engaging and relatable way. This film is a must watch for anyone in the muslim community. Good for the whole family, this film follows Bilal, a misguided young man who gets into trouble with the streets. He meets Purple, who is a sort of mentor but is also caught up in the world of drug dealing. I thought Purple's character was so interesting and complex - he is a walking contradiction. Bilal learns a lot through the duration of his journey and has to choose the life he wants to live. I liked the representation and authentic muslim voices echoed throughout this film.

The best film of the year!! It's really unique telling a story a lot of Muslims live through without any context with their history, and to see it on the big screen for the first time really had my emotions going. Honestly I highly recommend everyone with any type or similar experience to see this film to see life in a different pair of lens!! Much love to the cast and crew who worked really hard on this film. I'm definitely going to watch it again! If anyone is interested in realistic story telling about deen ( faith) vs dunya (worldly) affairs this film is for you and you'll thank me later!!

I watched the purple don't cry movie today and its premiere in Edmonton Alberta. I was moved by the theme of this movie and how Relatable can be to it every day people lives. They talk the truth it's very touching and it is definitely a must see movie! We are always supporting western movie and it is time that we support our community and raise up the youth to aspire to be movie creators, artists and poets. I'm very excited for the endless future opportunities that this movie has brought out. Well done Bona Mohamed and the cast. This movie has a lot of lessons that the youth can learn from, and to see different perspective of other people's lives without judging them.

Boona has a great potential for something way bigger. I would love to see more of him and his representation of Toronto and the muslim community and would love to see him in advertising too as he is the face of Toronto and as he is not the person who makes movies that are not like the regular ones, once again keep up the great work I really love to see more of boonas movies as he is a creative person and his work is different and something close to the city of Toronto. He is also involved in many other social activities and other networking projects too so he is someone involved in not only acting but other stuff too.

This has to be one of the best movies of the year. With amazing performances from all the actors, this is an inspirational movie especially people who are faced with challenges in life while growing up. I would recommend people to watch this movie to get a feel how young men fell prey to gansgters on streets and end up ruining their lives. Althought based on a true story, the movie manages to remain eye catching and interesting till the very end. And the best part is you can watch with your family, since it has so many takeaways and lessons to be learnt. I would love to watch this movie again.
A great movie to inspire young children and to warn them about the dangers of the streets. I would recommend the film to anyone. It was inspirational, heart warming, and based off Boonaa Mohammad's life. It was amazing to watch and hope to see more of these types of films to help the youth. I even learnt from this film and am realizing that really anything could happen to you. The contradiction and confusion going on with purple is how life really works. Even though purple has everything to be a good person, he is put in a sticky situation and a hard environment to truly be the best person he could be. This was a truly amazing film!

I thought this movie was brilliant. The message was powerful and impactful. I thought the plot was simple, yet effective. Bilal's acting was incredible. Overall loved the experience and I look forward to a new door being opened for many more inspirational Islamic movies. My favourite part of this experience was watching how Bilal evolved from being so adamant on the concept of "money, power, respect", to understand that there are more meaningful and fulfilling ways to live life. Many youth can related to the plot and it serves as a reminder to always put God first, prioritize family, and halal earnings.
