Saoirse Ronan, Jack Lowden Step Down From ‘The Outrun’ Production Banner Arcade Pictures (Exclusive)
Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden are stepping down from their production banner Arcade Pictures.
The company’s debut feature, “The Outrun,” is set to have its international premiere at the Berlin Film Festival next week. The film world premiered at Sundance last month.
Lowden, who’s currently starring in “Slow Horses,” set up Arcade Pictures in 2019 alongside “Modern Life is Rubbish” producer Dominic Norris, who will stay on at the company.
“Little Women” star Ronan joined as a company director in 2021.
In 2022 Arcade Pictures unveiled its first major feature film project, an adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s addiction memoir “The Outrun” directed by Nora Fingscheidt.
“Arcade was formed to make ‘The Outrun’ and Dominic will continue to drive that banner’s train,” said a spokesperson. “Jack and Saoirse are excited to celebrate the film as it makes its debut and beyond, and will continue looking for more passion projects to develop together in the future.

The band also performed “Villa Rosie,” from 1993’s Modern Life Is Rubbish, for the first time ever, and dusted off live rarities “Chemical World,” Oily Water,” and “Popscene.”
See the full setlist and watch fan-captured footage of the performance below.
The Ballad of Darren is due out on July 14th. Over the course of the summer, they’ll play shows in the UK, Europe, Japan, and South America. Tickets are available through Viagogo.

I love this clip from Modern Life Is Rubbish because it gives us a taste of the punchy humor in the film, as well as a taste of the guitar-driven music that provides, not only the soundtrack, but also the lifeblood of the story. It's drawn from the jitters, as a new band is about to debut in front of a live audience, which includes at least one young woman who is devoted to one young man in the band. Can the boys deliver their first song without falling apart? Can they possibly win the heart(s) of anyone listening? And can they survive the brutal introduction? Here's the official synopsis: "Brought together by their shared love of music, ten years on Liam and Natalie are...

"Where's all this coming from?" Cleopatra has unveiled an official trailer for an indie romantic drama titled Modern Life is Rubbish, which played at the Edinburgh and Hawaii Film Festivals last year. The film is about a young couple on the verge of breaking-up. Brought together by their shared love of music, initially it was "opposites attract", but this didn't work for them long-term. Making the difficult decision to separate, they must split their prized music library. "But the sound track that defined their relationship keeps pulling them back together." Aww. Modern Life is Rubbish stars Freya Mavor and Josh Whitehouse as Natalie and Liam, with a cast including Tom Riley, Ian Hart, and Jessie Cave. This seems like a very smart, emotionally devastating look at modern love - and how complex it is. I also quite like the poster - see below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for...

Blur‘s second LP is their secret classic. Coming between the pop-psych shimmer of 1991’s Leisure and the cool Britannia of 1994’s Parklife, the brittle jangle and bitter observations on Modern Life Is Rubbish were near-career-killers. But this two-cd reissue (part of a grand dress-up of Blur’s catalog, including a 21-disc box) arms the LP’s real bravado. “Advert” and “Pressure on Julian” anticipate the full-throttle indie-rock swerve on the ’97 hit Blur, with more Kinks and David Bowie in the clamor. Of note among the many B sides: the...
