I love operetta just as much as the next person, and while Die Fledermaus for me is the king Der Graf Von Luxemburg is still very entertaining with typically gorgeous music from Lehar. I found this production very nicely done. The production values are highly stylised but still look very opulent and beautifully tailored. The stage direction is both funny and charming, never allowing the pacing to lag behind, while the dialogue comes across as well-rehearsed and clearly delivered with good sense of comic timing. Musically, it is outstanding, with the orchestra doing justice to the orchestration that is both lush and jaunty and the conducting efficient without rushing. I have little to complain about the performances, Michael Suttner- in the title role- and Gesa Hoppe have great voices and give very likable performances. Marika Lichter stands out in support.
So in conclusion, very nicely done production, well worth catching. 9/10 Bethany Cox
