I wasn't impressed with the 2022 first movie "The Stepmother", yet I opted to sit down and watch this 2022 sequel, since I hadn't already seen it. And who knows, perhaps part two will prove more entertaining than the first movie?
"The Stepmother" part two starts out quite nicely, and definitely feels like a direct continuation of the previous movie. And on that account, director Chris Stokes was on the right track right away.
But I must admit that the storyline quickly went off the rails, and I lost track of what was going on and whom the characters were. It felt like a very cluttered and disorienting storyline that writers Marques Houston and Chris Stokes conjured up to continue on after the first "The Stepmother" movie.
It was nice to see some returning cast members from the first movie return to reprise their characters and roles in the sequel. Sure, the acting performances in "The Stepmother 2" were okay, despite the dubious storyline. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, aside from the returning cast from the first movie.
You know when a police officer's uniform has the word "cop" printed on the chest, then you have some real, genuine props on your hands. When I saw that in the movie, I nearly spilled my drink laughing.
Part one of "The Stepmother" wasn't a great movie, but it was watchable at least. However, "The Stepmother 2" was a swing and a miss, and the writers just lost me along the way.
I doubt that even the most hardcore of family-invasion-thriller fans will get much of a kick out of watching "The Stepmother 2". I watched it as a casual viewer, and I didn't enjoy this movie. And I am sort of dreading part three, as I have that one lined up to watch after this one.
My rating of director Chris Stokes's 2022 "The Stepmother 2" lands on a three out of ten stars.
