Father Christmas is ready to call it a career in the first trailer for Disney+’s The Santa Clauses.

The footage from the forthcoming limited series based on the Santa Clause film franchise dropped Saturday at Disney’s D23 event in Anaheim, California. Ahead of the project’s Nov. 16 launch, the spot catches viewers up with Tim Allen’s character Scott Calvin, better known as Santa Claus, who has turned 65 and decided to find someone to replace him in the all-important job as he focuses on enjoying some downtime.

“For the good of Christmas, for the good of my family, I, Santa Claus, have decided to retire,” Allen tells the elves in the trailer. After seeing their devastated reactions, Allen quips, “We have a grief counselor, right?”

The Masked Singer is getting a revamp! Fox has announced that season eight will find the contestants competing for a new title -- King or Queen of The Masked Singer. In addition, each episode will feature a new round of masked celebrities and only one contestant will move on. The eliminated contestant will be unmasked will take place in the middle of the episode, and the person will take their place in the new Masked Singer VIP section to watch the rest of the episode.

Themed episodes will include Vegas Night, Comedy Roast, Hall of Fame, Muppets Night, Andrew Lloyd Webber Night, TV Themes, ’90s Night, Thanksgiving, and Fright Night.

Under the new format announced today by the network, each episode of the celebrity singing contest will feature the usual knock-out performances by elaborately disguised celebrities, but for the first time, only one contestant will move on from each episode. The studio audience will vote for their favorite, and the singer with the least amount of votes will unmask mid-show. That celebrity will get a front row seat in the Masked Singer VIP section to watch the rest of the competition and the second unmasking, and for the first time, won’t have to to wait to find out what celebrity they were competing against.

Here’s how it’s going to work: Several disguised contestants will compete each week, but only one will move on to the next round of competition.

Fox has greenlit an American version of “Sas: Who Dares Wins,” an unscripted format from the U.K. The U.S. version has been given the working title “Special Forces: The Ultimate Test,” and features 16 celebrity contestants who are put through a set of challenges meant to emulate special forces training camp.

The news came ahead of the network’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s virtual summer 2022 press tour.

“The Masked Singer” is changing things up for Season 8. The Fox competition series will have a new format, and only one contestant is going to make it through each episode.

As we know, each episode generally features performances from several of the masked celebrities. This season, only one will move on at the end of the episode (as opposed to only one being eliminated in years past).

In order to add a second elimination, an audience voting element is also being introduced. Halfway through the show, the studio audience will vote for their favorite performance so far, and the contestant with the least amount of votes will be sent home. But, they’ll get to stick around to watch the rest of the competition — and even the second unmasking!
