Exclusive: The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers alum Maxwell Simkins and newcomer Barrett Margolis are set as series regulars opposite Tim Allen and Kat Dennings in ABC multi-camera comedy pilot Shifting Gears (working title) from 20th Television.

Written by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, Shifting Gears centers on Matt (Allen), the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.

Simkins and Margolis will play Carter and Georgia, the respective son and daughter of Riley and Matt’s grandchildren.

Allen and John Pasquin, who directs, executive produce Shifting Gears with the Scullys along with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. Dennings is producing. Shifting Gears (wt) is produced by 20th Television.

With the holidays right around the corner, Freeform’s “25 Days of Christmas” is back.

This year, starting December 1, the special lineup event will introduce Disney+ holiday films “Noelle,” which stars Anna Kendrick, and “Godmothered,” which stars Jillian Bell, as the flicks make their Freeform debut.

In addition to the new favorites, the network will welcome back classic holiday movies, including 2000 film “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Disney’s A Christmas Carol,” “Frozen,” “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town,” “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas” and the 1994 version of “Miracle on 34th Street.”

Several beloved film franchises will also make their return, including the “Home Alone” and “The Santa Clause” trilogies alongside the “Toy Story” franchise. During the special event, Freeform will also air holiday episodes of “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy.”

Coming June 8 to Peacock is “Based on a True Story,” a true-crime comedy thriller about a couple (Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina) who decide that getting involved in a murder will somehow save their marriage. All eight episodes will be released at once. This comical look at true crime is sure to entertain audiences, whether they are fans of the genre or not.

After partnering with eOne on the BAFTA- and Golden Globe-nominated drama Stan & Ollie, director Jon S. Baird is reteaming with the studio on Everything’s Going to Be Great, a new film on which it’s partnered with Astute Films. As the calendar flips over to 2023, Prime Video is attempting to start a new year on the right track with fresh seasons of some major originals.

Prime Videos’ list of new releases for January 2023 is highlighted by Hunters season 2 on Jan. 13. The first season of Hunters was set in 1977 and followed young Jonah Heidelbaum’s (Logan Lerman) introduction to a world of Nazi-hunting. After a lengthy wait for season 2, the fresh (and final) batch of episodes will find Jonah and friends venturing to South American to take out none other than Adolf Hitler, himself.

While Nazi-hunting undoubtedly takes up a lot of streaming space, two other Amazon original series of note arrive in January. The Rig, a supernatural thriller set on a Scottish oil rig, premieres Jan. 6. That will be followed by season 2 of fantasy role-playing animated series The Legend of Vox Machina on Jan. 20.

The new year is upon us and Amazon Prime Video is kicking things off in grand fashion. Not only are they debuting the third season of their Tom Clancy adaptation “Jack Ryan,” they’re also debuting the final season of the ambitious, Al Pacino-starring actioner “Hunters.”

Initially debuting to the service in February of 2020, right as the pandemic started, the series’ first season follows a ragtag group of Nazi hunters in 1977 New York City. The so-called Hunters discover that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living in the United States and are conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in America. The Nazi hunters, led by Pacino, will embark on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their genocidal plans. A seasoned hand in the acquisitions game who is leaving a senior exec post at Endeavor Content, Shooman has been an acquisitions exec at CBS Films, Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group. Twenty years after the release of the Sean Penn–starring “I Am Sam,” director Jessie Nelson is looking back on her movie and celebrating that it couldn’t be made in the same way now.

“I wouldn’t make that movie today without a lead being from the [disability] community,” Nelson told The Hollywood Reporter. “But that movie would not have been made 20 years ago. It wasn’t like I had the choice: ‘Make that movie with a lead from the community, or not.’ It was ‘The only way this movie will get made is this.’ ”

Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington have joined the cast of Paul Feig’s upcoming film for Netflix, “The School for Good and Evil.”

The “Bridesmaids” director made the announcement on Twitter Friday. The movie is slated to debut on Netflix in 2022.

Feig’s “The School For Good and Evil” is based on Soman Chainani’s best-selling novel of the same name. David Magee and Laura Solon are adapting the screenplay.

“The School for Good and Evil” will follow best friends Sophie and Agatha, who are about to discover where fairy tale legacies go to school: The School for Good and Evil. Sophie knows she’ll be picked for the School of Good and join alums like Cinderella and Snow White, while Agatha knows she’s fit for the Evil School. However, when their fortunes are reversed, their friendship is put to the test and the girls discover who they really are.

The Netflix fiilm follows best friends Sophie and Agatha who discover where fairytale legacies go to school: the School for Good and Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains. Meanwhile, Agatha, with her grim aesthetic and wicked cat, seems a natural fit for the villains in the School for Evil. Seeing how many great movies are on the lineup this year, we wouldn't blame you if you just decided to sit on the couch and watch TV all winter long. There are holiday classics like Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as well as some nostalgic gems like The Santa Clause films. After a busy summer of sales on survival thriller Let It Snow, Arclight Films has locked in another key deal for the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Signature Entertainment will handle Stanislav Kapralov’s feature film debut in the territories.

The Season 12 premiere of American Ninja Warrior set the bar Monday night, delivering a 0.6 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 3.50 million viewers. The NBC athletic competition was down from its Season 11 average but ticked up a tenth from last week’s all-stars special. NBC ended the night with a repeat of Dateline and won the night overall in both the demo and total viewers.

ABC’s Monday was taken over by the finale of The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons – Ever! was on par with last week and matched its season lows.

In the middle of CBS reruns of The Neighborhood, Young Sheldon and Bull, the Monday edition of Love Island held steady with last week’s numbers but slipped a tenth from Sunday’s edition.

Univision finished second overall in the demo among the broadcast nets with a lineup including La Rosa de Guadalupe, Médicos and the premiere of Dulce Ambicion.

Fox’s Monday night movie Draft Day (0.3, 1.36M) climbed a tenth from last week’s Love the Coopers, while the CW aired repeats of Penn and Teller: Fool Us.

After two weeks of the DNC and Rnc, regular programming began to resurface in primetime Monday night. American Ninja Warrior returned with a special all-stars episode, leading the night with a 0.5 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 3.48 million viewers. It was followed by a rerun of Dateline, with both shows giving the network the overall nightly victory in both metrics.

On CBS, quarantined romance continued to heat up on Love Island but it wasn’t hot enough; the reality dating competition slipped a tenth in the demo from last week’s Monday debut. In addition, the broadcaster gave audiences encores of The Neighborhood, Young Sheldon and Bull.

The Bachelorette: The Greatest Seasons – Ever! returned on ABC, ticking down in the demo and in viewership from its last airing. Meanwhile, Fox aired the holiday movie Love the Coopers, which was steady with last week’s movie presentation The King’s Speech.

ABC’s “The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons — Ever!” returned from a three-week break to its lowest ratings yet.

The “Bachelor” highlight show scored a 0.2 rating among adults 18-49 and drew only 1.5 million, roughly a 20% drop on both metrics from the previous episode. It remains to be seen whether the show can boost things a little with its final episode of the summer next week.

NBC won the night overall, thanks to an “American Ninja Warrior” special which delivered a 0.5 rating and 3.5 million total viewers. The all-star special which aired on Monday was shot after season 11 finished. Later in the night, “Dateline” scored a 0.4 rating and 2.8 million viewers.

Over on CBS, “Love Island” fared better than its reality counterpart, ticking up to a 0.3 rating and 1.6 million viewers. That represents the dating show’s largest audience since the season 2 premiere a week ago. Leading into it, replays of “The Neighborhood” and “Young Sheldon” both scored a 0.4 rating.
