I don't know the books and probably won't read them even after this weak adaptation. I watched the 2016 film and was very disappointed when, after a lot of boring back and forth, it finally ended in a furious climax - and left all questions unanswered. Resolution in a sequel? None.
Now I was hoping for at least a few answers from the series, so I finished the series in three days.
Unfortunately, here too there was a lack of any enjoyment for the audience, because apart from the well-known Alexander Siddig, there are almost only bumbling talking puppets at work. The only one who was able to satisfy me a little with an unpretentious and believable acting was a supporting character who was in one potential second season should no longer be there. The setting? A bit of stuff was shown in the pilot, but you quickly notice that most of it was shot in very cheap rental sets and not only were extreme savings made on the sets, you shouldn't expect anything from the costumes either; these are always the same very cheap clothes. Conclusion for the production design: Disappointing.
Story? Unfortunately it's boring and the dialogues aren't enjoyable either. In the few sequences where things really get down to business, almost nothing explicit is shown. Presumably to save the costs of appropriate special effects/make-ups. The "Outcasts" (monsters) were painted full-body wetsuits, but at least they looked somewhat usable. So here too only a minimal amount of resources was used.
Unfortunately, that's what the series is all about and why it will only have a small chance of further seasons after the really bad film. After the film's flop, they didn't have the courage to invest a little more budget and produce something that someone could actually like. The film at least had a few reasonably pretty faces to offer, unfortunately almost all of the rental faces in the series are from the leftovers, which means there is no eye candy whatsoever.
What is much more serious, however, is the small total number of reviews; currently just over 350 votes cast. From this you can conclude that the series has hardly generated any viewing figures so far and you normally don't make sequels for a tiny audience...
