The star-studded Indian spin-off of the Citadel franchise, Honey Bunny, is now streaming on Amazon Prime, and while the series has its fair share of drawbacks, it is definitely the most entertaining entry of the spy-universe so far. The regional offshoots of the original Citadel series were supposed to be independent entries that use the basic structure of the original narrative but explore characters and storylines of their own without depending on it. Set in Italy, the first spin-off of the franchise, Citadel: Diana, went down this route, where the connection with the original series was barely present aside from key continuity references. It’s a completely different story with Honey Bunny, where events are connected with the original series to such an extent that it can be termed a prequel to Citadel.

The latest entry to Amazon Prime’s Citadel spy universe, Honey Bunny, centered on the fictional global intelligence agency’s India division, follows the same old milquetoast intrigue of wavering alliances, families, loyalty, relationships, and a fierce rivalry between secretive intelligence agencies. But in the adept hands of director duo Raj and Dk, the series finds its own character through heart and humor—something which was severely lacking in the last Citadel spin-off series, Citadel: Diana.
The narrative stream of Honey Bunny itself shifts between two distinct timelines, following the series’ tradition, and connects with existing Citadel lore like a prequel installment. The makers have used India as a setting in a way that, with all its Bollywood references, the background score, clichés, and innuendos, the treatment feels relatable for Indian viewers and, to some extent, panders to a westernized perception of the country for global viewers at the same time.

Citadel: Honey Bunny is the latest Prime Video series in the Citadel franchise. After the fun ride that was Citadel: Diana, there was hope that the Indian chapter in the story would continue the storytelling. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark.
Caution: This post contains some spoilers from Citadel: Honey Bunny
The series struggles partly because of the time period it’s set in. We’re set in the past, a little before the events of Citadel. Because of that, we have an idea of what is supposed to happen, especially to young Nadia.
Who is young Nadia in Citadel: Honey Bunny?
Let’s just start with this explanation. Nadia is the Nadia that we meet in Citadel, played by Piryanka Chopra Jonas. Knowing that, we know that nothing can happen to her. That doesn’t mean nothing can happen to Honey or Bunny, but Nadia is going to survive.

Like Citadel: Diana, the new Citadel spinoff, Citadel: Honey Bunny, arrives to little fanfare but significant results. The original was a bloated, massive miss for critics and fans alike. However, “from the Russo Brothers” stamp of approval still means something to fans and Hollywood in general, attracting stars from all over the globe.
The next chapter in the Prime Video spy saga, Citadel: Honey Bunny, is one hell of a ride. Of course, this version doesn’t have the bells and whistles of the original or even the Italian sequel. Not to mention big-name global stars like Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden. Yet, the series has its own style and attitude, which is all its own.

On Monday, Agbo announced the winners of their fourth annual 48-hour short filmmaking competition, No Sleep ’til Film Fest, underscoring their commitment to championing emerging filmmakers.
Christina Brennan, an emerging filmmaker from New York City, won first place for her short “Dear Nora,” which follows a young woman confronting her inner critic as she struggles to embrace her own worth and find beauty in life’s small moments. Second place was awarded to the directing team of Ben David Sharp and Josh Madison Lewis from Glasgow, Scotland, for their apocalyptic short “Fall,” a wordless drama where two unlikely allies face the decision to cooperate or fight for survival. Elijah Boulton, an independent filmmaker from Nova Scotia, took third place for his film “The Universal Language,” the quirky tale of a man who orders a synthetic girlfriend only to discover a unique language barrier between them.

The Russo Brothers expand the Citadel series internationally after the success of the 2023 Citadel series starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jones. Citadel: Diana, now streaming, sets the action-espionage thriller in Italy while the upcoming Citadel: Honey Bunny from India, applies a Bollywood spin to the spy thriller genre. While all three series provide a nail-biting experience, one of these three options brings a fresh take to the familiar genre.

We're currently between seasons of The Boys, Prime Video's subversive superhero show about a world where superheroes are both real and completely awful. The fifth and final season of The Boys will likely air in 2026, wrapping up the story of the conflict between sociopathic superman Homelander and nigh-sociopathic superhero-hater Billy Butcher.
But Amazon has no intention of letting that be the end of things. It's already aired a first season of one spinoff show called Gen V, set at a college where young superheroes are trained to use their powers and avoid moral accountability for their actions. There's also a Spanish-language spinoff planned called The Boys: Mexico.
Finally, there's Vought Rising, a prequel series that will explore the foundations of Vought, the massive corporation behind a lot of the superheroes we come to meet and loathe on The Boys. Vought Rising will revolve around two characters we met on the original series: Soldier Boy,...

Exclusive: The latest Citadel spin-off from the Russo Brothers’ Agbo has hit a ratings landmark for Prime Video out of Italy.
The streamer told us that the big-budget Citadel: Diana is now the top-launched Italian original around the world for its first weekend, based on viewership outside its country of origin. Amazon didn’t give us numbers but said the Matilda De Angelis-starrer is number one in Italy, the U.S. and UK, while it has entered the top five in nearly 150 countries including Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, France, Brazil, Mexico and India, which sets a new bar for Prime Video’s international viewership of Italian-language content.
The success of the Italian series has attracted more audiences to the U.S. version of Citadel, Amazon said, from places like the U.S., UK and Italy. Italian originals that previously performed well for the streamer include Everybody Loves Diamonds and The Bad Guy.

The first season of Citadel: Diana ended with the titular spy finding out that her mentor [Spoiler Alert] Gabriele survived the fall of the independent intelligence agency, Citadel. In the final scene, Gabriele walks out of the shadows and meets Diana, which implies that the two are going to band together against their common enemy, Manticore, and stop Edo Zani from mass-producing and releasing the deadly bio weapon Jupiter, through which he wants to control the entire world. In the end, Edo takes up arms (not literally) against his own father and gives him a quick death using the cutting-edge Jupiter, which suggests how powerful this weapon really is and what chaos it would unleash onto the world if it fell into the wrong hands. With Ettore Zani dead, there isn’t anyone left who could tame Edo and his wild ambitions, except for Diana, but would she be able to convince...

Whoever thought of creating the Citadel franchise must have taken major inspiration from the much beloved Assassin’s Creed, series, given how both these narratives share multiple similarities through two rivaling shadow organizations trying to control and manipulate world events throughout known history, with the dialectical ideology of truth and control guiding them both. That being said, the similarities are superficial because none of the game series’ brilliance in storytelling, nuance, or intrigue in ideological conflicts translate into this snoozefest spy franchise, which holds true for its latest spin-off series, Citadel: Diana, as well. With a compelling lead performance by Matilda De Angelis, there are a few moments where Citadel: Diana seems to fare better than its predecessor, the original series. But that isn’t saying much given how dragged out and generic the narrative itself turns out to be.

Things come to a head in the Citadel: Diana season 1 finale. We see Edo focus on total power, and Diana make a decision about her future.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers from the Citadel: Diana season 1 finale.
The episode starts with a flashback of Diana sharing an update with Citadel after the attack on Citadel Italy HQ. We see the hopelessness for Diana as she realizes that there is nobody else out there. Gabriele sent her one of those “if you’re hearing this, I’m dead” messages, and nobody else responds to her message out. After being orphaned in the plane crash, she’s now orphaned from Citadel and in the belly of the beast that is Manticore.
The flashbacks do get a little annoying in this episode. We already know everything Diana is sharing with Citadel. Sure, it’s great to see that she has always remained loyal to Citadel,...

The penultimate episode was always going to be a big one. Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 5 brings us an attack, but how does it all end?
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 5.
The episode opens with Edo’s passionate speech to his Manticore agents as they head to France. He makes it clear that Diana is working with them to infiltrate France. Now they all need to work together if they want the outcome in mind.
It’s a reminder of strong leadership. Edo has the skills needed to take over Manticore. He just can’t get past his father. It’s not like he’d be able to take Manticore in the direction he wants to right now, anyway. Manticore France and Germany both want to control people, so Edo needs to take them down.

As Ettore tries to prove that his plan is the best, Edo works on taking over Manticore in Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 4. It’s time for the official power struggle to begin.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers from Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 4.
After Ettore’s power play at the end of the previous episode, Edo had to make his own move. Instead, it led to him being kicked out of the family, but that means a power play begins.

Citadel: Diana continues the story in two timelines, with the past jumping to eight years earlier. It’s time to see Diana join Manticore.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers from Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 3
There are a lot of questions about what will happen to Manticore, and whether Ettore can figure out if Diana is someone to trust or not. There are also questions about what happened in the past to Citadel. The show wastes no time in adding layers to the story.
How Diana joined Manticore in Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 3
The episode opens eight years earlier, with Diana getting into her car to find someone in the back with a gun to her head. Does he know that Diana is working with Citadel? It doesn’t seem so. This is Matteo, who tells Diana that the plane crash that killed her parents was orchestrated by the Secret Service.

The Russo Brothers’ are known for their world-building powers, but the Citadel spy universe they’re designing for Amazon MGM Studios marks a new approach altogether. Whereas the Marvel Cinematic Universe was carefully constructed over multiple movies and many years, Citadel has sped up the whole process for a content-hungry streaming world.
Citadel had first emerged as an idea back in 2018/2019, with development beginning in earnest after Amazon’s Jennifer Salke had approached the Russos about a creating an international spyverse. While the MCU and DC universes have decades of material to work from, Citadel would start from scratch.
There was an 18 month gap after the launch of the first Citadel series, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, but things heat up this month. Citadel: Diana launched yesterday out of Italy, and will quickly be followed by India’s Citadel: Honey Bunny next month. Another season of the big...

Shrouded in mystery, Citadel: Diana transports viewers into a shadowy world of espionage and intrigue. Set in the lively city of Milan, this Prime Video series spins off from the globe-trotting saga Citadel. Picking up years after Manticore dismantled the independent spy organization Citadel, we find ourselves trapped deep undercover alongside Diana Cavalieri. Played with nuance by Matilda De Angelis, Diana has infiltrated Manticore’s headquarters hoping to avenge her family. But staying concealed among her parents’ killers grows wearisome, and an exit finally comes into view – if only Diana is willing to put her trust in an unlikely ally.
As with any mole embedded within the enemy’s lair, Diana walks a treacherous line. And De Angelis imbues her with a complexity that keeps viewers constantly guessing her next move. Will Diana finally break free of the past and choose a new path forward? Or will vengeful ghosts...

It didn’t take long for Diana and Edo to team up in Citadel: Diana. Can they trust each other?
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 2
At the end of the first episode, Diana headed out to see Edo. She knows that he wants to take over Manticore Italy, and she wants out of the agency. They can work together to make sure Manticore gets the weapon that likely comes from Citadel.
Diana has the French half of the weapon, and the German has other half. Edo doesn’t trust Diana at all, but he doesn’t really have a choice if he wants to reach his goal. And so, the team up begins.
It’s a simple enough start. There’s none of this back and forth, with the story getting straight into it. Of course, there are constant questions about whether they can trust each other,...

Citadel: Diana opens in the way that any spy drama, should. It’s all about intrigue. Let’s take a look inside the events of the series premiere.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 1
After the disappointing way Citadel turned out, I admit that I was worried about Citadel: Diana. With a different team behind it, it did offer some hope, though. It meant that different minds would be behind the story, hopefully getting rid of some of the cliché storytelling that made Citadel fall flat.
The first episode did not disappoint. It didn’t get weighed down by complicated backstory. Of course, it helps a little that we know about Citadel and Manticore from Citadel, but I didn’t feel like we needed it. We’re told the information that we need to know for the spy drama to work if this is the first jump into the world.

Last week Amazon Prime Video flexed its international muscle with a host of events around Europe, including a Prime Video Presents Trailblazers event celebrating women on and off screen – which included appearances from Octavia Spencer, Priyanka Chopra Jones and Amy Pascal – followed by the “Citadel: Diana” premiere in Italy.
During the whirlwind European tour, two of Amazon’s most senior female execs — Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, and Kelly Day, VP of international for Prime Video – sat down with Variety to talk about celebrating women, how the industry has changed over the past five years, what the international strategy is going forward, and what’s in store for some of their biggest franchises, including “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and “Tomb Raider.”
We’re meeting at the conclusion of a pretty spectacular Amazon’s Trailblazers event in London. What was the inspiration behind the day?...

The spy universe Citadel is back on our screens, but this time with its European leg. Citadel: Diana explores the enemy syndicate Manticore, specifically its European families, through a mole named Diana. Diana’s story is simple. She was a regular old girl with big dreams until both her parents died in a plane crash. However, Diana would soon discover that it was no ordinary plane crash. Diana’s not one to let go easily, so she tries her best to figure out who was behind the whole thing and in doing so, she’s discovered by a man named Gabriele from Citadel Italy. Citadel: Diana is set in 2030, and according to its timeline, 8 years ago, Citadel fell. Diana goes back and forth in the timelines between Gabriele’s training of Diana and 8 years later, when she’s a mole at Manticore. However, there’s one missing piece there. How...

After the success of the original mostly U.S.-based Citadel, which premiered in 2023 (starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas) and is currently filming Season 2, the Citadel franchise is spawning several global sequels. An Indian version called Honey Bunny is due in the States on November 7, but first, there’s Citadel: Diana, a six-episode action set in an increasingly authoritarian 2030 Milan, Italy. The protagonist in this iteration is Diana Cavalieri, ostensibly an agent of the international crime syndicate Manticore, which destroyed the European branch of Citadel, another powerful group aiming to keep the world safe — sometimes with less than pristine methods. In reality, though, Diana is a Citadel agent and a mole who has been trying to escape Manticore since the Citadel take-down eight years earlier, during which she lost her only contact and handler Gabriele (Filippo Nigro) and became totally alone with the enemy. “Diana is strong and...

My biggest deal with the first Citadel was that it was so trophy that even the tropes themselves would be bored at this point. Sure, “thriller” does not equal an “unpredictable plot” line; however, how does one stay intrigued by something that relies on shock value when you know exactly what’s going to happen next? I love Priyanka Chopra, and I’d almost watch anything she’s in, so I pulled through with that one. She does look incredible, and despite the lack of any originality, the show was decently entertaining thanks to its action choreography. I’d say Citadel: Diana is just as tropey, if not more. It definitely feels like a combination of a dozen spy movies/shows you’ve seen before; however, it plays out in a more, for the lack of a better word, thrilling manner. There’s definitely some intrigue to it, and if...

Citadel: Diana is here. It’s hard to fathom how Prime Video’s massive, bloated disappointment Citadel inspired enough confidence to warrant several spinoffs in the coming months. The original series dropped with much buzz and fanfare, mainly due to the “from the Russo Brothers” stamp of approval and the presence of two attractive megastars.
However, as much as you might want to get lost in the eye candy of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden (and join Stanley Tucci in the “bald brotherhood”), everything about Citadel was overblown, overwrought, and overdone—yet undercooked, like that gorgeous holiday goose that never thaws.
Citadel: Diana, however, is different. Prime Video’s attempt to expand its reach into other markets—à la Netflix—benefits from scaling down the cast, giving characters more engaging arcs, and using special effects in small, effective doses. It also helps to have a breakout star like Matilda De Angelis.

As a big-budgeted high-stakes small-screen espionage caper, Amazon Studios’ Citadel is as trope-filled as you could imagine. What I find funny is, more than focusing on the global conspiracies in the post-truth era; like the premise is set up to be, the series hovers round and round inside the loop of identity crises and family drama. Still, I guess there is some sort of appeal in the generic globe-trotting spectacle, which instilled the studio with enough confidence to greenlight not one but two spin-off series, with more on the way. Among these upcoming entries. Citadel: Diana, set in Italy, is going to premiere later this week, while Citadel: Honey Bunny, set in India, will release in November. To help you get in the groove, let me break down all the major events that took place in the first season of Citadel, which will be directly connected with both the upcoming spin-offs.

Amazon MGM Studios boss Jennifer Salke, Octavia Spencer and Priyanka Chopra Jonas were among the big names lauding the role of women in TV and film at a Prime Video event today.
“Women are at the core of our business – from our incredible actors, our inventive producers and our executive teams,” said Salke, at the Trailblazers event in Central London. The event saw multiple stars, producers and directors touching on issues such as pay parity and production, with several trailers and first looks also unveiled.
During a conversation with Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer, Salke said the pitch for The Help star’s untitled comedy thriller series opposite Hannah Waddingham was among the best she had heard in her career.
“I have heard thousands of pitches, maybe tens of thousands, and it was a top three — the relationship of two women at the center with action, humor and heart,” she said.
