At one point Bengt Alsterlind was cast as The Hermit in the film. Bengt is very famous in Sweden for his television program called Hajk. Director Ola Paulakoski and Bengt had a great creative relationship in preproduction. But ultimately decided that the physicality of the main character did not match up for a character that has been able to take care of himself for 40 years in the forest and Bengt felt the similarities to Hajk were to many. It could have turned into Hajk vs The Monster. The details in the script which brought similarities to Hajk were in the script long before Bengt was cast, but they were obvious. Hermit having a homemade monster hunter harpoon etc.
Chris Olsen, lead singer of Swedish metalcore-band Scars Of Phoenix, provided the voice of the Monster.
One of the scenes where the monster is peaking out from a bush while the hunters are watching it from a distance with binoculars is actually shot not far from the head producer Jonas Wolcher's home in Gothenburg.
The rest of the movie is filmed in Värmland.
July 20 2017 Hermit: Monster Killer was chosen as a WINNER Outstanding International SciFi Horror Comedy Feature at the Los Angeles Academy of Film Awards - SUMMER 2017.
