"Animal Practice" is a new comedy centering on Dr. George Coleman (Justin Kirk), a top veterinarian with an impressive list of famous animal patients at the Crane Animal Hospital - a bustling New York City veterinary practice where it often seems as if the patients are running the place. Despite his unorthodox style, George has an undeniable gift with animals of all kinds - except the human kind. Much to his chagrin, George recently learned that his ex-girlfriend, Dorothy Crane (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), has inherited the family business and is now George's boss. Whip-smart and ambitious, Dorothy shakes up the hospital as she brings order to the chaos and butts heads with George's animal-friendly administration.

Doug's dog needs surgery and he tries to convince George to perform the operation. Angela decides to sell Dr. Rizzo's artwork for profit.

Dr. Coleman taps his softer side to deal with a sick dog and its nine-year-old owner.

Dr. Yamamato heals the Mayor's dog and becomes a city hero - Dorothy makes her first big hire.

George's mother Virgina shows up at the hospital with a sick cat. - Dorothy has to help Dr. Leiter win over the Board of Directors.

George finds Jill to be an increasing threat at the hospital. Dorothy tackles the Annual Halloween pet costume contest.

George treats an ailing cockatoo with a wealthy owner; Dorothy and Yamamoto bond -- Christina Pickles and Fiona Gubelmann guest star; Adam Goldberg makes a guest appearance as himself.

Dorothy, being new to the hospital, wants to get to know the staff on a more personal level. So, she sets up a weekly informal staff meeting nicknamed, "Snack and Chat". George, who prefers keeping his feelings to himself, thinks this is a ridiculous idea: he believes that too much sharing is useless. Meanwhile, Angela must get a bulldog name Ralphie back into shape.

When George's Mother invites him to Thanksgiving Dinner, George forces Doug and Doug's dad to join them only to discover there might be sparks between George's Mom and Doug's Dad. Meanwhile, Dorothy spends Thanksgiving with Juanita's family and Angela sets out to distract Yamamoto from calling his wife.
