Play ball...
Of course I had to sit down and watch this 2022 Hong Kong movie titled "Shen Xiao Shan Bi Qiu" (aka "Life Must Go On"), as I happened to stumble upon the movie by random chance here in 2023. In fact, I had never even heard about it. But that was hardly an issue, because I am a big fan of Hong Kong cinema, and thus of course this movie had to be watched.
Writer Chi-Yeung Wong put together a nice enough storyline for the movie. It was not something groundbreaking or innovating, though. In fact, it is something that has been seen before, say like in movies such as the 2000 Thai movie "Satree Lek" (aka "Iron Ladies"), for instance. Regardless, writer Chi-Yeung Wong did manage to churn out a script and storyline that provided good entertainment, and thus the goal was achieved.
The storyline in "Shen Xiao Shan Bi Qiu" is one that not only is about dodgeball, but also one that is about team spirit, camaraderie, rising to the occasion, and overcoming personal problems. So there is definitely something for just about everyone in the audience here.
The only familiar face on the cast list here, for me, was Ekin Cheng. But I will say that they had a good cast ensemble for the movie, and it was certainly nice to get to see fresh new talents to the Hong Kong cinema.
I genuinely enjoyed "Shen Xiao Shan Bi Qiu", and it is a movie well-worth spending 93 minutes on watching.
My rating of director Ying Chi-Wen's 2022 movie "Shen Xiao Shan Bi Qiu" lands on a six out of ten stars.
