After a 27-year hiatus from television, veteran Indian filmmaker Anubhav Sinha is making his streaming series debut with Netflix’s “Ic 814: The Kandahar Hijack.”

The six-episode thriller, based on the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight, marks Sinha’s first return to long-form storytelling since his early days in television, which includes Dd Metro series “Sea Hawks.”

The drama, adapted from the book “Flight Into Fear” by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury, explores the crisis from multiple angles. Netflix has revealed a multi-year series partnership with Indian filmmaker Hansal Mehta.

Mehta’s hard hitting crime drama series “Scoop,” his maiden venture for Netflix, bowed earlier this month and was a major success for the service. Inspired by crime reporter Jigna Vora’s book “Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison” and starring Karishma Tanna as crime reporter Jagruti Pathak, the series is set up as the first season of a franchise.

Taking this successful collaboration forward, Mehra will create multiple series for Netflix over the next few years.

Mehta’s film credits include “Shahid” which bowed at Toronto and won him best director at India’s National Film Awards; “Aligarh” (2015) that debuted at Busan and won at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards; and “Faraaz” (2022) that premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. His series “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story” (2020) was a smash hit for streamer SonyLIV.

Prolific Indian studio Maddock Films has three successful projects currently on, 15 more in the pipeline and is developing an ambitious film series based on the “Arabian Nights.”

Laxman Utekar’s comedy-drama film “Zara Hatke Zara Bachke,” a co-production with Jio Studios starring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, has emerged as the sleeper hit of the year grossing $11.1 million theatrically so far. Homi Adajania’s action drama series “Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo,” starring Dimple Kapadia, is a hit for streamer Disney+ Hotstar, while Arunima Sharma, Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal’s coming-of-age Prime Video drama series “Jee Karda,” starring Tamannaah Bhatia, is garnering positive reviews.

Priyanka Karunakaran, a Malayali actor who made her debut in Netflix’s ‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga’ with Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal, is all set to star in ‘Radhan’, a short film that is scheduled to release on a popular Ott platform this month.

India is the fastest growing market market in the world for giant streamer Netflix and Monika Shergill, VP, content, for the country, has a clear plan to keep the trajectory going.

“A healthy streaming business, according to us, has to be built on the strong fundamentals of engagement, where we are doing very well, and revenue and profit as a global service. We are a profitable service – in many of our markets, we are on the path to profitability,” Shergill told Variety.

Mumbai, April 8 (Ians) Actress Kangana Ranaut has heaped praises on actress Yami Gautam over her performance in ‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga’ and called her “inspiring.”

Kangana took to Instagram, where she posted a picture shared by Yami on the social media platform.

As per the original post, the film became the ‘most viewed Indian film globally on Netflix’.

Kangana captioned the image: “@yamigautam is doing so well, consistently and quietly delivering the most successful films…so inspiring. Congratulations to the entire team.”

Netflix has released its Top 10 for the week of March 27, and it was little to no surprise that Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston‘s comedy sequel “Murder Mystery 2” entered the English language films chart in first place. After all, the original 2019 movie was such a huge hit for Netflix.

The action-comedy sequel entered the charts with 64.4 million hours viewed, the second-biggest launch for a comedy film with 42 million views, appearing in the Top 10 in 91 countries with it being the #1 movie in more than 60 of those countries.

Right behind it was the original “Murder Mystery” with 24.7 million hours viewed globally, and the previous #1 movie “Luther: The Fallen Sun” with 12.7 million viewing hours. Sharad Kelkar, who can be seen in the just-released streaming film ‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, has shared that he experienced a culture shock when he worked in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2013 film ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’.

The actor started his career in 2004 with the show ‘Aakrosh’ in which he played Inspector Sachin Kulkarni. The show aired on Doordarshan.

He kept doing films in regional languages and Hindi and then eventually landed a role in the Bhansali directorial ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, starring Ranvir Singh and Deepika Padukone.

The actor said during the ‘Cyrus Says’ podcast, hosted by Cyrus Broacha, “One of my initial films was ‘Ram-Leela’. That’s the most for Week 1 of a new Netflix series, English-language or otherwise, since “Wednesday.” And we’re only counting four days of viewing, as “The Night Agent” debuted on a Thursday; Sunday night is Netflix’s weekly cutoff.

A simple thriller that from the first bars does not deceive: it goes absolutely nowhere and does not have the slightest intention of showing us anything new, neither about the human condition nor about cinema.

Entertaining? Well, just about, although if we have to give it the benefit of the doubt from some angle or other, we can do so for the plot twists, which, without being novel, do give it the (almost) necessary zest.

The trailer shows the lead characters’ journey from being a romantic couple to planning a mid-air heist. ‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga’ is a story of an air hostess and her businessman beau who are on a mission to steal diamonds to free themselves from the clutches of a loan shark. However, the heist goes horribly wrong when the very plane carrying the diamonds is caught in a hostage situation.
