Two Norse warriors on opposite sides of a bloody clash come face to face after the battle claims their brothers and sisters in arms. Their life-or-death fight becomes little more than a game of chance for the gods of war Odin and Freyja - who will emerge victorious, and what is the Allfather truly planning?
Valhalla Calling is a low fantasy short film depicting events during a very early cycle of Ragnarok, with a twist. It opens in the midst of a fierce battle between two Viking hosts, one of them belonging to the current chieftain and led by the Shield-maiden and her sister Sigrid, the other belonging to a Jarl who has challenged the King's rule, and led by the Housecarl and his right hand man, Bjorn. The Jarl's host initially gains the upper hand by employing an ambush, but the King's forces prove more numerous and tenacious than expected. As the clash progresses, warriors on both sides are slain until only the Shield-maiden and Housecarl are left standing, the latter having just killed the King and preparing to go home and inform his master of the victory. Seeking retribution for her fallen liege and kin, the Shield-maiden chases him down and a long, ferocious fight ensues between the two skilled warriors. Meanwhile, the gods of war Odin and Freyja are watching and elect to place a wager on the mortals, even granting them enhanced abilities to prolong the fight. However, it soon becomes apparent that Odin has not truly shown his hand and that he is playing a much longer game...
