Only watched a few of the episodes so far. But so far so good. I wanted to review it because there's not many good reviews on here. And I think this series definitely deserves some more eyes.
I liked Joko's other stuff, so naturally, I wanted to give it a go. And I wasn't disappointed.
Some of the stories aren't exactly new and groundbreaking but they contain some new and original elements and some good twists that makes it feel fresher than your usual, run of the mill stuff you find on Netflix these days.
Looks beautiful and is quite thought-provoking. Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
If you liked satan's slaves, impetigore and anwar's other films. You'll like this.
Nothing has really frightened me yet. But then again, I'm a horror connoisseur. Not much does. But it certainly drew out other emotions. Give it a go.

A series with an amazing plot story, make you thinking make you connecting the episode with another episode, and the cinematography its like your eyes was relaxed with this series. Joko Anwar is the best indonesian director who i loved. This series was make indonesian step to another lever, to the higher level of filmmaking, because so far i know, indonesian film or series is about horror or horror. Superhero, sci-fi movies is new step for indonesian. I assume the series will be good but some episodes was have bad cgi and its look peculiar but for first sci-fi series in indonesian with own minus i think its good.
As an Indonesian, I'm surprised we actually got this kind of quality.
I haven't watched a lot of Indonesian movie lately (or ever actually) because I really can't get into them. Usually the acting is really bad and the dialogues are cringe as well. The production is also usually pretty bad and low budget...
And so, I was surprised how delightful this series was. The production was definitely a step up from usual. Hell, the cgi was actually pretty good too and wow, the story is not bad at all.
It is far from perfect, like some episodes are stronger than the other (for me personally I like ep 3 the most, then 2), and there were some wtf moments that are not that great and dragged out (and don't get me started on the last episode and that girl who only has 1 emotion and can barely act...)
But overall, it was a pleasant watch. I love the horror stories and the Lovecraftian vibe. I won't mind having another s2 but will need some tighter story and scenes.

I dont usually leave review for a series but I feel I have to for this one.
This is a departure from the highly polished western series. It has unique dingy aesthetics that is special to Indonesian movies like the raid or satan's slave that is distinct from high budget productions. The dialogue maybe awkward at times but the story and idea is superb and the acting is decent.
The dub quality is excellent and you can see that each episodes is produced with passion. There is some aspect that western audience might not be able to relate to because its uniquely Indonesian but give it a whirl, it wont disappoint you.

Not saying I'm completely disappointed, well maybe a bit, but I just to imagine it were that based on what I expected and speculated from the trailer and not some kind of interconnected stories with the climax at the final episode, it would have been more interesting to me. I have no problem with the CGI, for a non-hollywood production series it's kinda okay, though I agree it can be improved for the later seasons. Like all Joko Anwar's projects, it brought his seemingly untamable bias of some rigid acting and dialogue in some parts by some of the actors. Scoring is fine and the plots are as usual: slightly better in concept than execution. But without Joko, who would be so brave and competent enough to pull this off in Indonesia? All in all, I'm satisfied and not feeling a little bit of regret spending my time finishing this series off in one go
7.5/10.

I'm a South Korean and this was my first Indonesian show and it literally blew my mind. Amazing!! This unique show deals with social issues in the form of horror and science fiction with mind-blowing twists and amazing visual effects and acting. It reminded me of Black Mirror, but in a very unique way.
The images delicately show the reality (both bright and dark) of Indonesian society. I could feel as if I am in Jakarta and I could deeply relate with the social issues of the country.
It deals with such a variety of issues like poverty, domestic violence, ableism, ageism, child abuse, and etc, in the form of horror and science fiction. This way, the story gives you so much emotional impact that you just cannot stop watching it.
I watched the show overnight and finished all of the episodes in a day. I could not even sleep. Amazing work. I don't think I can get over from this show for a while...

Having spent 20 years in Indonesia much of that in Jakarta, this show gives an accurate representation of the poor and rich, demons told as stories in the evening to scare children. I am only a couple of shows in but it is story telling at its finest. The translations could be better. They are using the Jakarta dialect of Indonesia which gives the show a more realistic. I hope NETFLIX continues to find more Asian horror shows like this one. These are shows we can all relate too, nightmares we can all watch together. Get some popcorn turn down the lights watch and enjoy. It may not be the Twilight Zone but it's close.

Plot
Ordinary people encountering strange phenomenons that may be keys to the answer about the origin of our world and the imminent threat we will soon face.
Cast
Not really familiar with anybody involved, not even Anwar surprisingly.
Verdict
Me and Indonesian horror so far have actually done pretty well, there have been some great films come out of the country so that plus my love of anthology horror series made me very excited for Nightmares and Daydreams (Not to be confused with Nightmares & Dreamscapes which I keep accidentally referring to it as). But did it deliver? Well yes, and in equal measure no.
So the first couple of episodes reeled me in perfectly, this was good stuff! Nothing ground breaking but original well constructed tales, but single only complaint was that they both had a single scene tacked onto the end that felt totally unnecessary. The quality began to wane and varied from average to really quite poor and that insistence on confusing final scenes continued, it had finished there was already a resolution and yet it still hit you with something it really didn't need to!
And then we reached our swan song when they decided to do something unusual, something breaking the mould of horror anthologies, something that I won't mention as I don't do spoilers here but I'll commend them on the effort but slam them for how badly they did it.
You'll see consistent themes throughout the tales, poverty, employment, desperation and the reach for a better life. Some work, some don't, but the inconsistent quality, confusing writing choices and very eyebrow raising final episode leave it all a bit of a mess.
Rants
The trend at the moment is that the vast majority of shows are being cancelled on cliff hangers, rendering them pointless watches and incomplete stories. Nightmares and Dreamscapes I went into confident that this wouldn't matter, independent stories after all so cancellation would be sad but not leaving the show in the same sorry state as most. How wrong I was, will it be cancelled? Very likely. Will we get a proper finale and a culmination, I just don't see it.
The Good
Some great stories Wonderfully constructed A few very strong performances Very ambitious finale
The Bad
Some weak stories A few hokey visual effects Finale could have been handled a lot better.

When I was a kid we found a big stash of old Tales from the Crypt comics in the attic and spent all summer reading them. Maybe not all summer but a lot of time for sure. When I've seen TV renditions of these stories they were always disappointing. This show seemed exactly like one of the great Tales from the Crypt stories, with the right tone and weirdness and especially creativity. I've always looked forward to horror anthologies expecting a similar kick, but it has not happened, until now.
I have only watched the first episode but it was really good and brought me back to those old comic. I'm not saying this story was taken from TFTC, but, I wouldn't be surprised to find out it was because the quality and creativity of it was at least as good.

The story is nothing original. Joko Anwar created this story, from an existing plot: Silence of the Lamb, Kimi no Nawa, Saw, Love, Death and Robot: Jibaro. Episodes one to 6, can be enjoyed. Until it was finally ruined by episode 7. Where this film became an ordinary superhero film. Episode 7 also has the worst plot and the worst acting quality. No longer special. I think Joko Anwar is an overrated director. His fans also said that his bad films were good. Joko Anwar should be able to develop more original stories, not trapped by global trends. He should know that the superhero genre is starting to be abandoned. Changing this series from the horror, mystery, sci-fi genre to the superhero genre is a bad choice. Moreover, this series feels very rushed to finish.
I am from Indonesia and one thing for sure, I never saw anything like this before from Indonesian film maker.
But first, let start with the negative/things I personally didn't like. The CGI is not really good. Maybe it is budgetary issue, maybe we still don't have the proper tools for doing something like this. Besides the CGI, like many Joko Anwar's works before, many of the episodes ending feel rushed. Many plots that are resolved too easily. Usually with this many issues I had I will give the series 6/10 but...
I love the characters in this series. They feel human. I can relate to them. This is a series about insane conspiracy theory with monsters and unspeakable horror, but it didn't forget to make you feel for the characters in it, I think that is rare nowadays. All of the sets and props for this series are super good. Fisherman Village full of seashells, the mysterious nursing home, settlements on landfills, everything looks real. I love the mysteries here. When you watch it, you will think that this is some kind of anthology series but if you really take notice, you will see the subtle connection between episodes. I keep guessing on how the episodes will connect together and the end doesn't disappoint.
The good really outweighs the bad for this series. That is why I gave it 9/10. Really hoping for Season 2, but not sure that it can give the same feeling of fear of the unknown but let's see.

Some stories were wasted potentials for better plot development. Three stories just got weaker and worse.... Didn't realize they were suppose to be connected into second last ep. This such a huge letdown. Even when the last story was somewhat promising to start.... That ending... No.... Just no. Please stick to horror. If you can't do it right, just don't try to overlap genres. I just think i wasted entire 6 hours watching this and i don't even know why. I can even bypass the not so perfect cgi or some of the weaker dialogue, but the plot just misses on so so so many levels!!! Why?! This is not great!!

I found this series surprisingly fresh and unlike anything I have seen before. It may have similarities to cabinet of curiosities and black mirror in its concept, but it differs in the way I'm which it brings everything to a close. It highlights the economic struggles in Indonesia but also the difficulties we face as humans in daily life, thereby crossing borders and uniting us as one, no matter where we reside on this planet. A good watch indeed! I hope nexflix endorse more shows like this in the future as it is right up my alley. I have watched plenty of Korean shows before but never anything from Indonesia. I must say I am impressed.

Don't judge..this is my first review! When i started this show I didn't realize every episode was a different story that all tied at the end. First episode was great, and every episode kept getting better and better. Fast forward, the last episode was so amazing in my opinion that I've watched it multiple times on high blast surround sound! It was Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs meets the Matrix. Truly bad a$$. I hope this series is renewed by Netfix! Watch the last 30min of episode #7 on blast with surround sound and you'll be amazed! I would give this series an 11 or 12, but I am only allowed to 10.
We simply cannot trust ANY reviews these days! After reading this series was compared to Black Mirror, I jumped to the opportunity to binge watch the series only to have sat and almost fell asleep many times. The poem episode was by far the most interesting and most others were WTF/Are you kidding me ridiculously childish stuff. Most acting were laughable and some downright annoying. Most characters were also stupid and there was no climax whatsoever. The English voiceover was some of the worst I've seen/heard! Don't waste your time. The level of poverty in some were just unrealistic as how the characters got by and lived their lives. Really, don't waste your time.

Im not a die hard fans of Joko Anwar, but yes kinda like his movies. And maybe my review is bias, but once again i like this one (Maybe because im from Indonesia, and each episode feel so related to me).
Can understand if some viewers from other country feel bored or something. Decent CGI, some akward dialogue, or maybe some cringe plot, yeah you can see thats all on this movie :)
But the plot for me personally deserve 2nd season (of course with better preparation like budget for CGI, script, act and many else). I read some review said "don't waste your time", for me its worth your spare and movie time, please give it a try :)

When I watched the first episode, I was like "Wow! What a concept!" Then followed the other episodes with no mind blowing content in it. The connect between the 1st episode and the second was good. But rest of them didn't connect well. I went on to recommend the series to my colleagues after watching 2 episodes. After watching the entire series I feel guilty about my recommendation.
After the 1st episode, the rest of them, I fell asleep in between most of the time. I even forwarded some of the scenes as it was too much of a drag! All the stories go at a snail pace. This is the second Indonesian series which I felt going at a very slow pace. I feel each episodes could have been shortened to 25 minutes and made it more crisper to watch.
Too much of poverty in all the episodes makes it even more boring to watch. I didn't like some of the episodes climax. The final episode climax is even more worse!
Music is good and it gives life to the scenes. Special effects is not upto the mark except for the Angel scene. Actors could have done better.
Don't worry if you skip watching this series. You will not lose anything.

Very refreshing, unique and satisfying. The episodes vary in quality imo, but together they make up pieces of a great journey to the last episode. All the stories are pretty relevant and they've been visualized so good. I can't help but applaud.
My personal ranking: 1. The Orphan (Ep 2) 2. Encounter (Ep 4) 3. P. O. Box (Ep 7) 4. Hypnotized (Ep 6) 5. Poems and Pain (Ep 3) 6. The Other Side (Ep 5) 7. Old House (Ep 1)
Synopsis: Tales of supernatural sci-fi phenomena unfold in this collection of seven mind-bending stories imagined by writer-director Joko Anwar.

Sure, here's an extended version of the review that meets the 600-character requirement:
What a NICE Movie!!!
Hi all,
I'm from Indonesia, trying to write a review in English. Sorry if there are any words that are misleading or if the grammar isn't perfect.
Not every series can keep me engaged, but this series is one of the exceptions. It has a great story and a fantastic plot twist. NICE!!!
Keep it up, Joko Anwar!
This review is for Joko Anwar's nightmare movie. It truly is a thrilling and gripping experience from start to finish. The cinematography is stunning, and the performances by the cast are top-notch. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the plot twists are unexpected and well-executed.
Joko Anwar has a unique way of creating an atmosphere that is both eerie and captivating. The way he builds tension throughout the movie is masterful. The storyline is intriguing and keeps you guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed, and their interactions add depth to the plot. The horror elements are executed perfectly, making it a truly terrifying experience.
If you're a fan of horror and thriller genres, this movie is a must-watch. It showcases the talent and creativity of Joko Anwar, making it a standout in his filmography. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great movie experience. This film proves that Joko Anwar is a director to watch, and I can't wait to see what he does next.

Weak CGI, out right stupid characters, and duhh acting. I swear those 10/10 ratings are just Indonesian try to buff their country movie, seriously, I only watched the 1st episode and I want my time back!
Those 2 stars are for 1. I give everything at least one star, and another one is for the music, I guess it's the only up side of the 1st episode.
Some people compared this to freaking Black Mirror! That's the best joke I heard so far, this is nothing compare to Black Mirror, not even a tiny bit!
The movie is still have some potential, the idea is ok-ist, but it really need some better writer, and actor, and CGI.

My boyfriend and I watched it and absolutely were obsessed. The CGI and some of the dubs could have been better but other than that, Every episode got better and better. I love how there wasn't an indication of the episodes connecting. I know a lot of shows have every episode completely not related to the last one and then the twist came in and they were all connected making it so much more engaging to watch. We definitely NEED a second season as the first leaves us off with a climax falling off a cliff. Cliffhangers are definitely intriguing but if there is no second season we will be very upset and feel lost and disappointed. So please please create more positive reviews so we can save the world TOGETHER.
