I hate to say it because I love to support Aussie actors and films, but this was SO bad!
The only redeeming thing is it contained a few LOL moments, or at least a chuckle.
The main actors didn't do a bad job, but the supporting actors were very ordinary, not sure if it was entirely down to them or the incredibly underwhelming script. I can only assume they tried to make some of the performances funny by making the characters out to be completely moronic, but it missed the mark but a long shot - eg the hostage negotiator, the fire fighters.
My daughter and I watched thinking a kid targeted Aussie Christrmas comedy - great!
Was not great and we wouldn't watch it again.

I thought I'd hate it but my daughter made me watch it and it was so much fun! The cast look like they had a ball making it. Sure, it's a cheesy Christmas movie but they're supposed to be cheesy. Maybe, because I'm Australian, it felt more relatable than the cringe-worthy, northern hemisphere Christmas movies that are usually dished up at this time of year. The acting was great and the kids were delightful. I mostly remember Matt Okine from his days as a Triple J radio presenter but he has solid acting chops. Miranda Tapsell is always a joy to watch and Ed Oxenbould is the perfect awkward teen. Story wasn't exactly realistic but there's romance, twists and fart jokes that the kids will enjoy.

This is a film that is just non-stop fun.
It doesn't make me want to live a better life or change the way that I think, but I feel in no way that Christmas Ransom ever tries to do that. Instead you find yourself overcome by joy and feeling like a kid again when the wackiness of movie takes over. The fun that the cast and crew seem to be having when making this is infectious.
Christmas Ransom can exist on its own without comparison to other properties, as it feels more a result of childish fantasy, rather than an imitation of any other Christmas film.
Very enjoyable as an adult, but I can more surely say, that for child-me, this would've been my favourite movie. Worth it for the serotonin boost.

I just watched this film with my family and the kids and adults both absolutely loved it. It features so many great Australian actors and the story is unpredictable with so many hilarious twists and turns right until the end. Unlike most films these days the trailer doesn't ruin the movie by showing all of the good jokes and plot points. Miranda Tapsell's performance was a highlight, she is so funny and likeable. Chai Hansen's performance was another highlight of the film. The child actors all did a very great job also. This is a Christmas film that we will be watching every Christmas from now on.

So fun, only in Oz could you make this magic Christmas classic, the new home alone with a prego 🤣, funny, heartwarming, and a must for "Prisoner cell block H "fans , looking forward to watching next Christmas too. Great story, strong cast and nice twists and turns. The movies starts well and keeps you hooked, many funny bits and the security guard lady is the best and makes lots of the movie great .The kids have all the plans and shop looks lovely, An Ozzy Christmas looks wonderful even without the snow, the Nan was strong and a good baddie, hoping for a part two , maybe next year with a visit from Santa,
