Empress Catherine has been already ruling Russia for 34 years and, anticipating her imminent death, understands that a serious problem is brewing in the state. Her son Paul, who should inherit the throne, does not love his mother, considering her guilty of the death of his father, and intends, having ascended the throne, to destroy everything created by her. Empress Catherine will have to make a difficult decision about the succession to the throne - to declare the heir to her beloved grandson Alexander and thereby destroy Paul's life, or to allow her son's disastrous rule.
