Fantasy elements were a great hook for the game, along with plenty of colour and a story. Being able to upgrade to a 3-headed dragon, have dragon allies, and other special abilities brought a cool sense of variation. Unlike many similar games, there's a beginning and end to the story which is very much appreciated.
The journey, however, becomes quite the grind, and seemingly a lot of cheap-shots along the way.
Arcade version: Excellent graphics and sound, though the story is very short and thin. The NES version did a better job between stages advancing the story.
NES Version: Biggest problem is the ending. No, the trip was not worth it, but still a fine game to have in the Nintendo Entertainment System cartridge collection.
