Mark and Lexie's tragic deaths in Grey's Anatomy were subtly foreshadowed in a line from season 5, hinting at their low survival rate. The use of the term "survival rate" in relation to their relationship is significant, as it is commonly associated with accidents like plane crashes. The comforting moment of Mark stroking Lexie's hair when she was sick in season 5 is mirrored in their final moments together before her death in season 8.
It isn't uncommon for Grey's Anatomy to brutally kill off some of its most beloved characters, and in the show's history of tragic character deaths, Mark Sloan and Lexie Grey are some of the most painful, however this one minor detail from earlier in the series makes their demises so much worse. Oscar-nominated actress Amy Irving is ready to release her first album.
The performer tells The Hollywood Reporter that Born In a Trunk, featuring 10 cover songs pulled from her life and career, will be released digitally on April 7. “Why Don’t You Do Right?” — the first single which Irving sang as Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit — will be available on digital platforms on March 3.
Irving, 69, made her film debut in Brian De Palma’s Carrie in 1976 and two years later was in supernatural thriller The Fury. Her role in Yentl earned her an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress and she scored best actress Golden Globes nominations for Crossing Delancey and Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna. She also has a number of stage credits, earning an Obie Award for her off-Broadway performance in a production of The Road to Mecca.

Lana Del Rey brought out Lucy Dacus and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino to perform alongside her during her concert at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom Friday night.
Dacus, who opened the show, joined Del Rey onstage to perform a duet of “Night Shift” from her 2018 sophomore album Historian. Del Rey then invited Cosentino onstage for “When I’m With You” from Best Coast’s 2010 LP Crazy For You, before giving Cosentino the stage to play “Up All Night” from the band’s 2012 album The Only Place.

Since kicking off her Norman Fucking Rockwell tour at New York’s Jones Beach in September, Lana Del Rey has been bringing out special guests at shows — including Joan Baez, Sean Lennon and Chris Isaak. On Monday night at the Bellco Theater in Denver, the singer performed with Australian musician Julia Jacklin and Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard.
After Del Rey introduced Jacklin to the crowd, they launched into Jacklin’s aching “Don’t Know How to Keep Loving You” off her recent LP Crushing. Del Rey took...

Miles “Pudge” Halter (Charlie Plummer), the teen hero of Hulu’s Looking for Alaska, is obsessed with famous last words, like poet François Rabelais’ declaration, “I go to seek a Great Perhaps.” But as he confesses to his new friends at an elite Alabama boarding school, he’s never actually read the works of the writers he quotes, just their biographies. It’s a shallow perspective on the artists’ lives, and Looking for Alaska — based on John Green’s debut Ya novel — could risk being a similarly superficial take on...

Say it with us now: Awwww! As if viral video stars Dave Crosby and his daughter Claire hadn't already stolen our hearts a million times over with their adorable duets of Disney classics on YouTube, they had to go and steal the show during the season 13 premiere of The Voice when Dave, emboldened by the fame his adorable daughter has amassed, decided it was time to pursue his musical dreams once more. After a gorgeous performance of Death Cab for Cutie's "I'll Follow You Into the Dark," coach Adam Levine, who turned around for the crooner and ultimately landed him on his team, admitted that he found the guy familiar. As luck would have it, after Adam and wife Behati Prinsloo welcomed daughter Dusty...

Suggesting superstitiously that Season 13 of The Voice would be unlucky was a silly gimmick, I thought — until in the premiere, the coaches all passed on my two favorite contestants of the night: Xaris, a teenage folk singer who’s as much of a gem as Jewel, and Odiseas, who returned from his Season 3 tryout with enough star power to light up a constellation. But it was still nice to have Miley Cyrus back on the panel — and not to have to listen to Gwen Stefani pitching female vocalists on joining her team with compelling arguments like, “You’re a girl,...

From heart wrenching emotional narrative to the tackling of tough social issues, the indie gaming scene has forged a stellar reputation for storytelling over the past few years, and we absolutely love it for that. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t equal value in the games that do away with heavy-handed plotlines for a more whimsical, light-hearted gaming experience more akin to a corny B-grade action movie than an epic journey of self-reflection. And in the case of Homegrown Games’ shooter, Into The Ice – Nazis Of Neuschwabenland, that’s a premise they’ve wholeheartedly embraced with open arms.
Into The Ice is the sequel to the Austrian based indie developer’s alternate history sci-fi game Into The Dark, which itself was also a spoof style dark comedy experience. Labelled a “trash experience,” Into The Ice, like its predecessor makes no apologies for its low budget aesthetic, amateur voice acting and cliche story.

Tribeca is looking to bring more to the table than just a general film festival and their latest line-up looks to be both innovating and immersive.
The line-up for the tech and innovation events includes a handful of potentially big projects from companies such as Google and AOL. The headline exhibit will be Storyscapes, the third annual complimentary showcase of interactive installations.
In addition to Storyscapes, Spring Studios will also house signature virtual reality demonstrations from Stanford University’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab, founded by Jeremy Bailenson and Worldviz LLC. They have teamed up to create Vr experiences that allow you to travel as a marine biologist to the bottom of the sea; play quarterback in a football game; and walk a mile in the shoes of someone of a gender, race, or age, other than their own.
Events will also feature Tribeca Talks: Imagination, which features panel discussions with tech thought leaders,...

The Academy has announced the complete list of 2015 Foreign Language Oscar contenders for the 2015 Oscar awards and again its a new record, topping last year's record 76 submissions, this year the list reaches 83 total submissions. Kosovo, Malta, Mauritania and Panama are first-time entrants. I've seen a few more on the list than I did last year and I actually have to assume with the buzz from those I've seen they may end up being major players. I'm particularly happy to see Xavier Dolan's Mommy in the field from Canada and it's great seeing the hilarious Wild Tales submitted by Argentina. The Russian submission of Leviathan (Leviafan) came, I think, as a bit of a surprise to everyone considering its subject matter, which could be looked at as critical of its native country. The Dardennes' Two Days, One Night has received a lot of acclaim everywhere it has played and we...

Fans of the Buffy/Angel franchises got a double helping of crossover episodes in late November 1999. With Angel skulking in the shadows in Sunnydale for Pangs, Buffy repaid the compliment by going to La to yell at her former squeeze. If the lacklustre Pangs kept the two apart, then I Will Remember You sees them finally achieve their goal of being a regular, loved-up couple.
At least for 20-ish minutes, any road. This is Angel, don't forget. The man doesn't brood without good reason, given that he's a walking bad luck magnet. I Will Remember You sums up Angel's somewhat hapless existence in that he has to give up the one thing that he's ever wanted in order to be the champion for good. For the more weepy of Angel fans, be warned: you may flood your own lounge by crying rivers in the last five minutes of this episode.

Keeping track of the Foreign Language submissions for the Oscars each year is something I constantly forget to keep on top of, but I have just done a full update as we are now up to 56 total submissions, only 20 shy of last year's record-breaking 76 submissions with only eight days to go before the October 1 submission deadline. Notable new entries on the list include Belguim's submission of Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne's festival favorite Two Days, One Night as well as Canada submitting Xavier Dolan's Mommy, which knocked the socks of Cannes audiences and did the same to me in Toronto this year (read my review here). It should also be noted France has submitted Bertrand Bonello's Saint Laurent instead of last year's buzzy title Blue is the Warmest Color, which missed the release date cut off date last year, making it eligible for this year's Oscars, but the...

Mischa Barton is opening up for the first time in nearly a decade after starring on The O.C. about her breakdown and the pressure she felt at 17 from being on the hit show.

By 2007, the final year that The O.C. aired, Barton, now age 27, was arrested for a DUI. In 2009, the actress was placed into Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center psychiatric ward after she "blacked out under the influence of a sedative" and threatened suicide. Saying of that time, "It was a full-on breakdown. I was under enormous pressure."

Ten years ago, the hit TV series The O.C. made 17-year-old Mischa Barton an instant "it" girl. Within a few years, however, she was the talk of Hollywood for a different reason as her partying grew out of control. "We thought, 'Work hard, play hard,' " she says of those years. Then in 2009, shortly after her parents attempted an intervention, she blacked out under the influence of a sedative and landed in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center psychiatric ward under an involuntary 5150 hold after she threatened to kill herself. “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” heralds an interesting change in bad movie titling. Perhaps we have finally moved on from stealing song titles from the '60s, '70s, '80s, and even '90s, and commenced thievery from the 21st century. So long, “Something to Talk About,” “Pretty Woman,” and “My Girl”! Hello, “SexyBack,” “Idioteque,” and “Call Me Maybe”! Mark Edwin Robinson’s film turns to Ben Gibbard and Death Cab for Cutie for its title, and that is perhaps the first indicator that this heartbreak-tinged horror film will not be the most original of creations. It attempts to take the genre into a more romantic, spiritual direction, and while it does not succeed — on any level — it deserves credit for the attempt. (Admittedly, “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” is stronger than the film’s original title, “Into the Dark.”) Mischa Barton stars as — wait,...

If you’re seething with unreleased rage and only know three guitar chords, there are a ton of options for you at theaters this week. From the boys finally loving Mandy Lane to Machete continuing his fight against good taste (which must have done something terrible to his family), and from Captain Phillips fighting back against pirates to William Faulkner rising from the grave to strangle James Franco, there are an unhealthy amount of victimized people taking up arms against a sea of bullies. Naturally, vengeful ghosts and an evil Disneyland come into play as well. On the punk rock side, there’s Green Day battling Broadway and a poorly-lip-synced attempt at telling the story of an iconic haunt that never played bluegrass music. There’s also a lot more going on in a week with a massive amount of movies. Here’s your trailer-ized guide to what’s coming out: The Major Stuff Captain Phillips Read...

For the first time since Marissa Cooper’s death in The O.C.’s season 3 finale, Mischa Barton is sort of (perhaps not purposefully) acknowledging the show and (probably unintentionally) drawing in Coop-loving fans to her latest project, a film titled I Will Follow You Into the Dark.
Today, Barton tweeted out the teaser for the upcoming film, and O.C. fans can relate to my surprise when I clicked on the link, saw Barton’s face, and heard Imogen Heap singing “Hide and Seek,” a.k.a. the song now known for its role in the epic season 2 finale of...

Mischa Barton is back on the big screen next month in the supernatural thriller I Will Follow You Into the Dark and stopped by our La studios to talk about the big life questions the movie raises. She also talked about how her world changed when she was cast on The Oc at just 16 years old - and why she now chooses to split her time between England, NYC, and La. Mischa, who owns a fashion boutique in London and has a handbag line now in its ninth season, also reflected on indulging her passion for style in recent years and her own fashion favorites.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the great Blackout of 2003 that sent much of eastern Canada and the U.S into darkness for days.
In commemoration of the notorious blackout, we've compiled a video gallery playlist of the best power outage-themed songs from David Bowie's "Blackout" and Arcade Fire's "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" to Death Cab's "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" and Black Key's "When The Lights Go Out."
And the best part is you can play this trip down (an unlit) memory lane without worrying about running out of batteries!
