"Roma" aspired to be the next Adult blockbuster, in the wake of such big-budget hits as "Pirates" (still selling over a decade later) and various overblown Brad Armstrong all-star epics for Wicked Pictures. It failed to win over the fans in a big way, but is still 5 hours well-spent for true Adult Cinema fans to binge on. There's also an all-male-cast companion film named "Romans" shot at the same time and constituting the only Gay feature ever released by distributor daring! Media.
We all know how Julius Caesar's story ends, but filmmaker Antonio Adamo keeps it interesting. He has many adversaries in Rome, including a very odd casting of daring! Media's chief in-house fetish director Kendo, as Roman senator Porcius Cato in his only acting role to date. Also lending a British twang (and avoiding the rest of the cast's merely acceptable English dubbing) is Clarke Kent as the narrator and erstwhile orgy participant.
En route to an anticlimactic ending (after the senators stab Caesar to death led by Brute) in which busty blonde Alexis walks off to a happy ending with previously dastardly Cristian Devil, Adamo unveils a very impressive parade of Euro femme talent. Caesar's niece played by Lidia St. Martin is a striking actress who gets to put out in Parts I & III, and should have become a star (she was memorable in the British production "Young Harlots: The Governess"). The beauty Jennifer Love gets to have sex with Mark Antony, here played rather stolidly by Andra Moranti.
I suppose the days of such ambitious super-productions are gone in the Adult world, leaving die-hard fans to debate the "hotness" or "chemistry" of this or that random 30-minute vignette pairing of some long-in-the-tooth porn actor with whatever flavor of the month young thing is summoned from Porn Central Casting. The sameness of it all has me happily retreating to earlier times when porn was executed by filmmakers, not interchangeable hacks.
