According to Rebecca Thomas, Julia Garner was cast in the film after Peter Vack, who acted with Garner in I Believe in Unicorns (2014), recommended her.
Music plays a key role in the film. The film's director, Rebecca Thomas, is a big music fan and is in fact married to Mark Garbett of indie band The Moth and the Flame.
Much of the film takes place in Las Vegas, the director's home town.
