The band, Magik reunites with some new members.

Aditya Shroff (Farhan Akhtar) is now living in Meghalaya for a few years, completely alone. He is separated from his wife Sakshi Shroff (Prachi Desai). Joe Mascarehas (Arjun Rampal), a reality show (Sa Re Ga Ma Pa) judge and a club owner. Joe has become very commercial in his outlook and frequently compromises his artistic impulses for the sake of money. Kedar Zaveri/Killer Drummer (Purab Kohli) is in touch with Joe & frequents his club.

Jiah Sharma (Shraddha Kapoor) is the daughter of a sitar guru Pandit Vibhuti Sharma (Kumud Mishra), who is traumatized by the untimely death of his son and protege. Jiah is forever her death brother's shadow & her father doesn't even know that she is an avid rock music composer. One day Uday Mishra (Shashank Arora) comes to meet Vibhuti to ask him to be his guru. Vibhuti ignores him, but Jiah asks Uday to record a sitar track for her record & asks him to deliver the record to a music company.

Back in Meghalaya, Aditya is running a farmer's cooperative and a small school. But the local farmer Mandi Mafia is angry that Aditya's cooperative sells directly to customers and not through the Mandi.

Meanwhile Joe and KD give Aditya a birthday surprise by flying to Meghalaya. KD confronts Aditya about running away from his problems, but Aditya says that the music company they started to promote young talent lost a lot of money and led to one young man committing suicide (The young man was Rahul Sharma (Priyanshu Painyuli), Jiah's brother, who wanted Aditya to listen to his music, but Aditya ignored him & that led to Rahul ending his life. Rahul had in fact tried to meet Aditya many times, & and always Aditya would tell him that he is busy. Then one day when Rahul confronted Aditya after his concert, Aditya lost it and insulted Rahul. Aditya listened to Rahul's CD the following day, but by then Rahul had committed suicide) . He believes that his passion for music has always led to something bad & hence is happy with the small life he has.

The goons of the farmer's Mandi burn down all the farms in Aditya's cooperative. Aditya is distraught as 5 years of work is destroyed. He wants to commit suicide, and that's when he runs into Jia, who is in Meghalaya to record sounds for her new compositions. Aditya returns to Mumbai when Joe and KD convince him to re-immerse himself in music. The first CD they hear is the one submitted by Uday, having Jiah's compositions. Joe, KD & Aditya invite Jiah and KD to perform for them. Jiah's voice impresses everyone and KD decides to work with Jiah to develop her unfinished songs. Aditya is a bit aloof to Jiah.

Soon, it's time for live stage performance. Jiah gets cold feet as her father was never supportive of her brother Rahul, when he wanted to fuse sitar music with piano and guitars. She feels her father will look down upon her as well. She gets cold feet on live stage and quits midway and runs away.

Thats when Uday reveals to Aditya that Jiah is Vibhuti's daughter and Rahul's sister. Aditya is shocked. Aditya heads to Jiah's home to tell her the truth. Jiah never comes back to the band. Aditya receives calls from Meghalaya that the farmer's cooperative is in a relief camp in dire straits. Aditya heads to Shillong to help them out. He learns that the aid released by state and central Govt was cornered by the farmer's Mandi goons, who now refuse to help the cooperative to spite them.

Meanwhile Aditya runs into Jiah in Meghalaya. Jiah comes to meet Aditya and tells him that Rahul's death was not Aditya's fault. Aditya is relieved to hear it. Aditya & Jiah return to Mumbai and pitch the idea of a huge rock concert in Shillong to raise funds for the camp re-settlement. Joe decides to fund it using the sponsors from his reality TV show.

The stage is set, and using social media, the group gets a lot of support for the concert. The Mandi goons don't want the concert to be a success and use brute force to destroy the stage and beat up everyone involved. The event is covered in news and Vibhuti comes to know that Jiah is participating in the concert. Vibhuti calls Jiah to berate her, but Jiah instead blames Vibhuti for being responsible for Rahul's death and for demotivating Jiah's life.

Help comes in the form of a contestant from Joe's reality TV show. Joe had encouraged the contestant to be true to his self and not pander to the audience. When the guy heard of the destruction, he marshaled his own resources to get all the sound systems for the concert.

The next day, the farmer Mandi goons, block all roads leading to the concert venue. But as the crowd swells, the goons are helpless but to let them pass through. The concert is a huge success, and the camp relief operation goes without a hitch. Jiah and Aditya end up working together on several albums which turn Jiah into a mega-global star.
