The Children Under the House is not only immersive with its well-written storytelling, but emotionally investing with its characters as well, especially one of the the story's main protagonists--a 7-year-old girl called Jess. The ability to create an immersive atmosphere and believable story through the means of analog-style videos and simple, paper-drawn slides takes a lot of effort and knowledge about what makes a story great and how to manifest that onto the screen, and The Children Under the House absolutely hit the mark. Especially considering how we were able to highly sympathize with Jess despite never once hearing her voice, instead having to visually comprehend her feelings through her crayon drawings. The conflict this brought upon the family all felt very real, and from the point of view the story was told, like we were truly seeing the struggles of real peoples' lives. The mystery of what is behind the paranormal phenomena keeps you wondering and never once overstays its welcome to the point where it would become boring, or a drag. The main antagonists in the story that mainly target Jess could be considered victims in their own right, which I believe makes for very substantial villains in storytelling.
During the story's runtime when it was still being released episodically, I found myself anticipating the release of the next installment, and saddened but satisfied that I had been along for the ride of an amazing film when it finally concluded. It truly is worth a watch if you're a fan of analog horror, or just indie horror series in general.
