This show is based on Gerry Dee's career before he left teaching to pursue stand-up comedy.
The character of Amanda Susan Sullivan that was introduced in season 5 is played by Gerry Dee's daughter Alyce; his daughter Faith appears in other episodes.
Filmed in Halifax: half at Citadel High School and half at a curling rink made to look like the school.
Many of the background performers remained the same year after year; their familiar faces can be seen growing up season after season.
Season 5 episode 9, "Gerry Does Detention", is a parody of the film "The Breakfast Club".
